The MegaJacket Has Been Greenlit

The Mega Man-inspired hooded jacket, an outstanding concept from video game clothing designer Enzo Volante, is now a thing. The men's cut has received over 200 pre-orders and is now officially in production, reads a banner at the Capcom Store.

As the story goes, Capcom would only produce the jacket if a certain number of people committed to buy it. Specifically, 200 male and 100 female cuts had to be pre-ordered by March 31st. While the men's cut exceeded its goal, it appears the female cut failed to reach 100 pre-orders. It's still up for pre-order, however, so there may yet be a chance to push it into production.

In any case, the jacket is due out July 23rd. It may not be suitable summer wear but it's nice to have it for a breezy fall!

  1. And if only the jacket wasn't so darn expensive. I would have pre-ordered one but that price point was too much. Now let's hope Capcom will be smart and give us what we actually want. Or else Comcept will get all the remaining Megaman fans, who haven't already gone to his side. Mighty No. 9 from Comcept and Azure Striker Gunvolt from IntiCreates are giving us Megaman-esque games, Capcom gives us an overpriced Megaman hoodie. Mega-fail.

  2. We only have ourselves as a fanbase collectively to blame. If we keep buying this stuff, they will keep giving it to us.

    1. That's true, but if you say that, then you get the people who say if we don't buy this stuff, Capcom will say there's "no interest" in the series anymore. Which is garbage, but that's the situation.

      There is no winning here.

  3. If it wasn't expensive then I wouldn't buy it anyway. They want our money instead of created the new megaman games. Wow, no wonder dumb people are buy it anyway, jeez.

    1. And maybe they cannot make new Mega Man games because they are all out of money.

      Which wouldn't surprise me really.

    2. So, this is like a fundraiser for them then?

I kid but it's a bit of an interesting situation sadly.

    3. Two cancelled Mega Man games. Three if you count Rockman Online.

And several other failed franchise installments.

I wouldn't doubt it that Capcom has no money or resources left. Also why I suspect quick, cheap iOS games on the rise.

    3. Im pretty glad i bought it, sure its expensive but when its in my hands that wont really matter and i get to wear around an awesome megman jacket that only a little over 200 people in the world will have ill zip off the hood so it looks more regular but after going to the site and looking at it a few times i just knew id be regretting it right now if i hadnt hopped on so really glad i did

  5. Wow... Just wow... Guess people are dumb enough to buy something that is worth $50-$60.00... And to compare- I can easily get a full leather jacket for $60.00

  6. Just once, I'd enjoy seeing some positive comments on some of the things Capcom tries to do for the fans. They're a corporation that needs funds to do things, not an evil sleazy hate machine that's hellbent on killing Rockman once and for all.

    1. Regardless of any financial trouble talks about Capcom...it's Capcom. They have the funds, they just have to have the motivation, the direction and the guidance. After the departure of certain key legendary game directors/producers, I'm wondering what sort of creative team they actually have now. I mean, heck, they had the funds back in 2010. No Legends 3. Money doesn't really seem to be a factor here, other than the fact that they're scared to invest any into Mega Man for fear they wont make what they expect. They simply don't have confidence in the brand, aside from merchandise it seems. They're willing to license Mega Man out to anyone willing to produce something, be it this jacket, or including Mega Man in Smash Bros. So the most sensible option, at least to me, would be to strike a third party production deal with Comcept to finish Legends 3. Who knows if that's ever going to happen, but it'd be nice.

    2. Wow, you are full of hypocrisy.

    3. Capcom earned the negativity. They have to earn any positivity. It's hard to see a $200 jacket as anything more then capitalizing on a situation.

If they want positivity, they would do something to get it. But in this case they want money, not positivity. They got the preorders, they're getting their money. As you said, they need funds. This has nothing to do with killing Megaman. I don't know why you care about Capcom getting a positive reaction for anything when they don't.

Wow, you are really selfish! Capcom is greedy and cruel, period!

Lol. How's the weather in your little fantasy land?

If they aren't doing this ridiculous shit on purpose, then that means they're just some of the stupidest human beings on the planet. They really just need to bankrupt and dissolve. The real Capcom died many years ago.

    6. That's real mature of you to think in black and white. Sarcasm aside, I'm afraid that's not how the world works there, man.

For the record, Capcom's not the one putting the high price tag on this, that would be the company that's actually making the jacket.

Mega Man is relatively niche, overall game sales prove that. Capcom is making sure that the next Mega Man game they make will pull in more than the usual, at best, slight profits that every Mega Man game has for the last decade.

Merchandising is an easy way of popularizing the brand. Being in a Smash Bros is a HUGE way of doing so. Mighty No. 9 stands to promote Mega Man by association as well.

Baby steps, people. Mega Man franchise has had about 50 games, not counting re-releases, multiple versions of the same game, or cellphone stuff. Mega Man isn't Mario, he doesn't pull in the sales numbers to warrant 2 games on average a year...yet.

As for this jacket...yeah it's expensive, just like most typical high-end designer jackets for a niche audience, utilizing a licensed brand are.
