US Gamer had the chance to catch up with the "father of Mega Man" himself, Keiji Inafune at GDC. Among topics discussed, he expressed further interest in developing Mega Man Legends 3.
Prompted about the possibility of producing a Legends-inspired title at his new company, Comcept, Inafune said:
"If somebody asked, even right now, what's the game you want to create most? It's still Legends 3," he muses. "I put so much effort into that game, so much passion into that game, but it didn't happen. It's always a regret in my mind. Even now…"He continues:
"We all know that's not going to happen, though, as long as Capcom holds the IP. But if they asked me to make that game, I could still gather most of the original team, even right now. Some of them have quit Capcom, some of them are still at Capcom, but I believe that team would be passionate enough to come back together and create that game. So…we'll see what's going to happen. You never know. "And as a matter of fact...
"Let's say that, if we have all seven Dragon Balls right here, right now, and Shen Long comes up and says, 'What's your wish?' My wish would be, give me all the right tools, people, and environment to create Legends 3."
Head over to US Gamer for the full interview.... and quickly, someone get this man a dragon radar!
I'll get the Oompa Loompas on it straight away, Protodude! *Salutes* :]
ReplyDeleteI think I'm going to cry.
ReplyDeleteNappa: "Vegeta, what does the Scouter say about the amount of people wanting Mega Man Legends 3?"
ReplyDeleteVegeta: "It's over 9000!"
Nappa: "And Capcom's?"
Vegeta: "Ouch! The negative value was so big, it broke the Scouter!! It's about less than -9000000000!"
Nappa: "WHAT!?"
Oh get outta here! XP
DeleteMy god, this man is truly dedicated to his baby...
ReplyDeleteDragon Balls? Dragon Balls! Of all the... *laughs* Alright, fair enough, Inafune!
ReplyDeleteCapcom, just outsource your IP to Comcept once the Internet gets done throwing money at them for Mighty No. 9. SERIOUSLY. The new Strider was surprisingly fun and well-executed when you handed the license off to Double Helix, and they didn't even have a legendary all-star development staff and vicious fanbase willing to finance a Kickstarter for the game.
ReplyDeleteDammit, it would be so cool if that happened... I WANT TO BELIEVE.
I didn't know Inafune was a Dragon Ball fan.
ReplyDeleteI'm more amused that Inafune just referenced Dragon Ball.
ReplyDeletePff, why stop there? Go to New Namek, grab their Dragon Balls and ask for all this stuff:
ReplyDelete1.That Concept would have full rights to the entirety of the Rockman series' history, as well as full control over cameo appearances.
2. That Beck and Gunvolt get immense backing licensing wise from things like Anime companies, Manga writers, toy distributors, et all...
3. That Kaio- King of Pirates actually comes out before the end of the world.
(Or swap that last one with something boring like immortality or world peace or whatever.)
I do believe that Kaio - King of Pirates is supposed to come out sometime this year. It has the year noted as 2014 on its website.
Delete1st wish - Why only Rockman? Have the entire Capcom merge with Comcept to form Capcomcept, with Inafune as the owner and top man.
Delete2nd - Same to every single game released by Capcomcept.
3rd - And every game will always be released and be successful, and Capcomcempt will never cancel a game, or something like that...
;_;7
ReplyDeleteI love this guy.
If he was so devoted to it, why did he leave Capcom in the middle of development?
ReplyDeleteSame reason everyone keeps quitting from Capcom. It sucks to work there. Just as an example, Yoshinori Ono had to be hospitalized from being overworked and as soon as he got out of the hospital, he was excepted to come back to work ASAP. Personal health, both emotional and physical, aren't worth sacrificing to such extremes just for a game. I imagine Inafune stuck around for as long as he could and assumed the game wouldn't get cancelled.
DeleteInafune probably knows the storyline, what's canon and what's not. Assuming this having funds to throw at MML3, why couldn't it be released as a fan-made game? It's fact that Capcom appropriated Street Fighter X Mega Man - another fan-made game.
ReplyDeleteSF X MM was Capcom of America trying to run damage control because Capcom's main branch being so short-sighted.
DeleteCapcom should swallow its pride and license the IP to Inafune. Let Kickstarter fund it!
ReplyDelete"We all know that's not going to happen, though."
ReplyDeleteIf only that were true. If the Legends fans would only come to terms with the fact that Legends 3 is NEVER going to be made, they'd stop trying to shoehorn Megaman Volnutt into other avenues of the Megaman franchise like fighting games and japanese figures.
Or they'd still continue to do so because they're fans of the Legends series and Legends is by far the least represented Megaman franchise. I mean really if you want Legends figures you're mostly out of luck whereas you can get like seven different high quality figures of Zero. It's not like people weren't clamoring for more Legends recognition before MML3 existed, even if MML3 made it more pronounced and way more high exposure.
DeleteI do agree that people should accept that the game probably won't be made though.
I've already lost all faith in Capcom now. Inafune should just make a spiritual successor like Mighty No.9 Legends instead.
ReplyDeleteMythos No. 9?
DeleteAs long as it didn't have Barrett I'd look forward to it.
