Mega Man Legends 3 Heroine Appearing In Capcom's Sound Rangers
Capcom's free-to-play iPhone game, Sound Rangers: Rhythm & Battle, is seeing the addition of another Mega Man character: Mega Man Legends 3's Aero. Wait, what?
It's quite true. The official Sound Rangers Twitter is currently teasing the Legends 3 heroine as the next Mega Man representative. No real indication when she'll show up... but it's happening. I am just as confused as you are, I assure you.
For the uninitiated, Sound Rangers is an RPG with Elite Beat Agents flare. Players tap and hold colored buttons in time to onscreen prompts while music plays. Some of these stages feature characters, graphics and music from iconic Capcom IPs, like Mega Man. Bearing that in mind, it would appear Aero is poised to appear in the game, maybe even with her own stage and unique set of music. Mega Man Legends music? Mega Man Legends 3 music? Who knows.
Anyway, it's unusual Capcom are choosing to throw in a character from a cancelled project. I mean, of all the characters in the Mega Man universe, they're going with Aero? Very curious.
Until further details arise, it couldn't hurt to speculate. We'll keep you posted.

DeleteI have to give it to Capcom, always making us fans mad.
ReplyDeleteLike SERIOUSLY!!!!!! WHAT THE F***???!!! Theyre choosing a character that WE fans chose and THEY canceled? Stupid move stupid Capcom.
Huh, strange.
ReplyDeleteI guess they're deciding to use some assets from their cancelled project so that some of the work won't go to waste, which I guess is okay and kind of nice in a way, but still, it's strange.
But hey, at least Aero gets some sort of use and won't go to waste entirely. Wish I could say the same for the winning creations that the fans worked so hard on...
Uhhhh, why exactly are you guys mad about this? This proves that DASH 3 is not completely dead. This could very well be a hint of things to come. They're showing actual interest in our dear friend Aero. Baby steps, guys. Take a deep breath and relax.
ReplyDelete"This proves that DASH 3 is not completely dead. This could very well be a hint of things to come."
DeleteWhoa there, buddy. Learn to lower your expectations, especially when it comes to CAPCOM/Legends3. When was the last time a highly-publicized cancelled game from a MAJOR VIDEO GAME COMPANY was revived? (inb4 Duke Nukem Forever, which was never CANCELLED, only FOREVER STALLED until 2011.)
Are you an idiot?
DeleteThis means that they are cannibalizing the project and that it is beyond dead.
Sound Rangers is a crossover. Like...a lot of things Capcom makes, actually. If anything, it means they don't consider Legends dead enough to not put in the game. And unless this is the insomnia talking, wasn't the Sound Rangers team the group that drew Roll and Data on the motorhorse for the 26th anniversary? They can't exactly go cannibalize Roll and Data's designs the way they can with the Legends 3 exclusives.
DeleteI totally agree with Cleveland Rock here, why would they use a character that never appeared anywhere then in a game that was never released unless they have future plans to use her in canon? I'm not rising my expectations all the way but I've got hope. Legends Never Die!
DeleteWe'd like to think that, but Capcom's pretty much focusing on mobile, now. I don't think they'll even make a real game for a very long time.
Deletethis is some very odd but good news??
ReplyDelete(I really hope they're hinting something with this)
I'm glad that they're FINALLY referencing something from Legends 3 besides the rocket, but at the same time...it's Capcom, so I'm wary.
ReplyDeleteSo she's a sound ranger? What is a sound ranger? And why is she a sound ranger? Is it because Aero's last name is Smith?
ReplyDeleteActually, if I recall correctly, Aero's last name was supposed to be Goodwin.

SuperMarioMan89
Not everybody is familiar with Yogi Bear, Nick. They don't even show it on Boomerang anymore.
DeleteKeep twisting the knife Capcom, RIP Mega Man.
ReplyDeleteRubbing sand paper on an opened wound, when will you stop pissing us off Crapcom?
ReplyDeleteI think this is probably so they can reuse all of the art design and character assets rather than just leave the character in limbo rather than some concerted attempt to be assholes to Mega Man fans. Given the state of the economy in Japan, natural and nuclear disasters, they need to pinch every penny they can.
ReplyDeleteHilaaaaarious...
ReplyDeleteThis isn't the first time this has happened. There was once to be a 3D fighter by the name of Capcom All-Stars or something along those lines. There were three original characters revealed for it. It was canceled.
ReplyDeleteHowever, one of them - Ingrid - would go on to be redone in 2D and appear in two games, one that was sort of what it became (Capcom Fighting Jam or whatever its name was, which was extremely poorly received) and at least one port of Street Fighter Alpha 3 (where she had a totally Mary Sue-ish narrative), which also added a few characters from Capcom vs. SNK 2 as well.
That said, I think anger is really an overreaction. There's nothing wrong with a little nod to the past. I'd prefer they reconsider starting Legends 3 dev again now that the 3DS is doing very well (where it wasn't during the time they were developing for it), but it's not something I'd be carrying torches and pitchforks over.
Seriously guys, relax.
I totaly agree i think you guys are just overeacting and i like how there nodding twards Megaman legends 3 and how i think that they will get a chance in todays staderds to make legends 3 so wtf i Never played legends one or two and still think fans are overeacting i am imagining if capcom pulls off a nother type of thing like this and you guys will be like pissed and stuff and holding guns storming into capcom and murding the company then hangining the character of megaman over to nintendo i mean seriosly its not a big deal lots of companyies did this before like square enix and how kingdom hearts chain of memeories had no story element what so ever and you got confused it was basicly a trogan horse
DeleteWhile Capcom is VERY good at referential humor and homages... their new management team isn't exactly the brightest when it comes to updating their IP's. (BoF VI being a mobile-exclusive title comes to mind.)
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid to think that Aero's appearance here will merely be like Dante, Joe, and Zero's appearances in MvC3: nothing more than an appearance.
I really hope I'm wrong, and one day let the members of DevTeam2 finish the title. I just hope it isn't welcomed with the mixed reception Devil May Cry 4 was met with. (Updated/superior engine, not enough focus on the core protagonist.)
Dammit, I want to believe.
ReplyDeleteThe thing people have to remember is that the mobile gaming market in Japan is HUGE, it dwarfs everything else and will get attention by publishers like CAPCOM who will easily use existing assets, no matter where they came from, to try to spark interest and get people on the treadmill. Mobile games take a lot less effort to get out the door, there are solid APIs out there designed to be easy to use and cross-compatible rather than the byzantine mess of architectures and licensing costs of existing console/handheld platforms. So for them investment in developing mobile games is minimal but the potential GAIN (particularly with pay to win models) is absolutely huge. It's basically game spam, and it works.
ReplyDeleteFor a company that is clearly struggling financially it should be not surprise that they would dabble in this as it is a very profitable area to mess around in, failure is paved over with quantity over quality and if it pisses off a bunch of nerds in the West they don't care, they have a margin to meet. And that's why people like us have to crowd fund *actual* games made by developers who give a shit about creating something actually fun (and not just a way of separating rubes from money as quickly as possible.)
Y'know I'm kinda sick of seeing this. Capcom is not struggling financially. Struggling productively, qualitatively, creatively, image-wise, or the like? Maybe. But Capcom is worth more money than they ever have been. Sure it is thanks in no small part to their mobile entries in Japan. But anyone picking Capcom's annual report apart for the "154 million dollars in the bank" to put into a headline as proof of their impending failure doesn't understand how financing works.
DeleteOkay, i now officially don't understand Capcom one bit.
ReplyDeleteThey cancel the game and then out of nowhere they start using the game's characters, this is better be a hint of an upcoming resurection of the MML3, Capcom, or this tease shall not go unforgiven... EVERYONE TO THE DEV ROOM!
Only now? I don't understand Capcom for years! :P
DeleteWishful thinging, but I also hope it is hinting something to come. To the Bat Cav... er... Dev Room!
You guys act like Capcom's never done this before. Remember Ingrid? And is this really something to get mad over?
ReplyDeleteYeah, Capcom has trolled many times in the past 10 years.
DeleteAero is like the Asagi of Capcom.
ReplyDeleteWell, she also appeared in that Capcom calendar after the game's cancellation, so I recommend keeping expectations low...
ReplyDelete...
But not 0 expectation. A expectation level between 1% to 15% should be fine. (Yay!)
using content from a cancelled game seems rather unusual, because it promotes nothing. wouldn't they want to spur consumer interest in other products they could purchase?
ReplyDeletethen... there's this rumor... i like where this dude's head is at, the idiot in me wants to succumb to his rhetoric.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDnGurGS398#t=72
Correct me if I'm wrong but Sound Rangers made from a completely separate company, which they asked Capcom for uses of Megaman? If so, than Aero being in this probably because the Sound Rangers team likes her and/or knows she's popular.
ReplyDeleteThis is no different than how Capcom used Shuma-Goroth in their Marvel games despite Marvel's mild protest.
yes anon, you are incorrect – this is a capcom game. find any original source/watch the trailer.
DeleteStill hope for Legends 3?
ReplyDeleteNot sure how I feel about this...
ReplyDeleteIm sure this is a cruel joke to all Legends fans, like saying "oh you want Legends 3? WOOPS, CANCELLED. Let's instead turn Legends 3 into E.X. Troopers, because that's a franchise that millions of fans would buy, right?"
ReplyDeleteAnd then they say "Oh, what are we going to do with Aero, we wasted money and time making a design for her... OH I KNOW, LET'S PUT HER INTO A IPHONE GAME, THAT WILL MAKE FANS LOVE US AGAIN, AND HOPEFULLY FORGET WE CANCELLED 4 MEGAMAN GAMES! CMON, LET'S ROLL IT!"
And a bunch of Yesmans going apeshit think about the money they will get from those plans.
I know you're pissed and all. I can even see if you think this is in poor tastes. But really? After this entire ordeal what you came away from the experience of MML3's devblog was thinking Capcom is a hivemind that shares only one intent and function?
DeleteI know right? But here's my question for you.
DeleteIf you were the CEO of Capcom, and the company is almost completely broke (which they are), would you keep going with a project that thousands, if not MILLIONS of people are willing to pay to play it? Or are you going to bet in making your games for movile platforms only? (Breath of Fire, for example)
Food for thought. :)
there is some truth in that they'd sell a lot of copies. the 3DS is a game-seller, especially action/adventure types. i'm a little baffled why they don't just release the prototype of the game on the e-shop for like $5 bucks to gauge consumer interest. but like you said, they waste time with these god awful, un-polished pieces of mobile shit across multiple IPs.
DeleteHonestly I can understand why he is pissed, Capcom didn't even bother to release the prototype on the eshop like they had announced they would. Hard to say if it would have done well when they didn't give it a chance in the first place.
DeleteHilarious. Taking a new character from the canceled MML3. Not only was MMl3 Prototype not going to feature much of Mega Man it now seems like the only things from MML3 they care to use are stupid characters that were never interesting to begin with (such as Aero). What's worse is the people insulted only because they are using this character and not reviving MML3. These same people didn't care that MML3 was slated to be highjacked by a completely new main character and HIS friends (again such as Aero).
ReplyDeleteYou all get what you deserve for ever supporting it after knowing what direction Capcom was going to force it down anyway. MML died more than a decade ago. Capcom's just been kicking the corpse around ever since. If you supported MML3 Prototype's direction then you have no right to complain when Capcom ignores everything Mega Man again and uses a character that was never officially part of the MML universe. Aero was never made part of MML by any game that we could play. She is therefor not a MML character and can be shoehorned wherever they want her. Stop crying about it you hypocrites.
Wow, raging against fans because Legends 3 wasn't what you wanted it to be? You are the one who sounds like a hypocrite and it sounds like you need a attitude adjustment. Fans had every right to be pissed about Legends 3 not happening.
DeleteElijah, you sound extremely immature. You are the real hypocrite here. If you hate Megaman fans so much, why even visit this site?
DeleteIsn't this just Capcom trolling its fans as usual?
ReplyDelete
