Mighty No. 9's Call Design Finally Decided

To the surprise of no one, design F, by Inti Creates’ Yuuji Natsume, has won the Call vote:

"Call F exits the Battle Colosseum triumphant, as the people cheer her on!! We’d like to say thank you to all the Backers who contributed to making this second vote a great success!
The battle got heated at times, but the Mighty Numbers stayed strong and campaigned through numerous threads to support their favorite Call! We couldn’t have done it without you, and the goodwill and enthusiasm surrounding this Poll! Thank you, Mighty Beckers!"

Call H placed 3rd with 15.47% of the vote, while Call E placed 2nd with 41.14%.

Well, that's that. What's your take on the results?

  5. No surprise whatsoever.

I am a bit disappointed. I would have liked it if the votes had swayed to something else that didn't necessarily look like a Roll clone. Yes she is Roll in the sense of her role, but some differences was all I would have asked for. =/

It may have helped if they had actually drawn the other two in the MN9 style. Oh well, suppose I cannot complain too much. Progress is progress.

  6. More and more proof that this whole thing is only getting a pass because it's like Megaman. Take that away and it has NOTHING.

    1. well ofcourse, we still haven't seen any gameplay or story and characters to speak of. once they show us something, we can see if it's just a mega man clone (saying that out loud made me ask why nobody made a mega man clone) or putting a spin on mega man formula.

    2. DUH

Most People are expecting this game because of the Megaman legacy, what else did you expect?

Is not like we're getting a real Megaman game at all someday tomorrow, No9 is there to fill that void, hence why Megaman veterans are making it as a spiritual successor.

    3. Take away 'like Megaman' and you still have a bunch of industry veterans who have a lot of experience with sidescrolling games and are almost certainly going to make something enjoyable - maybe not groundbreaking, but enjoyable - and polish it to a fine sheen.

That is why I put forth twenty bucks. Not as some 'stick it to Capcom' message, but because I'd be all for seeing them do another rock solid platform game, and I think they will do just that, Megaman likeness or no.

No! Don't ask that question!! Good lord, do not ask-- aww, damn it... I'm too late! >_<

  8. ...Who do I have to murder to fix this? E was the only one that wasn't basically Roll. What the hell... this sucks.

Disappointed though at a bit happy there is progress with the game development..Really wish the other call girl could return as maybe as npc or as dlc.

How long i wonder we need to wait for the next game news now that this is done...

  10. I think F is the best design. E looked like a stewardess, and H reminds me of that girl from Inspector Gadget.

  11. Wow some of you guys are such cry-babies. I picked E as well and am a bit saddened that design didn't win, but there's no reason to say you wanna murder the game designers.

  12. I dont care about this one but I voted F because of traditional like Rock and Roll. Now this one too. Very wise decision and congratulations to their team!

@Witch, you do not understand anyway. It was supposed to be basically Roll look like just to be tradition for Mighty no. 9. YES! I am happy!

  13. I love how people can't be happy that things are progressing and instead whine like little girls about how designs lost. I wanted H, yet I'm happy that F won. Why? Because it's progress and because the majority appreciate that design. I swear... a bunch of babies can't ever be happy. Congrats F and F supporters, I look forward to Call mode and to see how her design fares. I'm a bit sad H lost but, wealth and glory to the winner as the saying goes. I can't wait tell the next subject to vote on, this was intense and fun... minus the cry babies... and generally a fun thing. I'm glad Inafune and the rest of his crew are so interested in fan opinions. It's a step up from Capcom, Sega, and a lesser degree Square Enix. More companies should look to him as an example.

  14. I hate the stripes and the skimpy skirt. And the looking too Roll-like.

    I am disappoint. :(

  15. I'm glad E didn't get it, and I'm surprised it did so well: I thought that design was hideous. H on the other hand I loved, it was more unique and simple. A real shame that the obvious Roll knockoff made it through, but that was the more developed design anyway and they'd already been using it as a placeholder, obviously influencing its mindshare.

  16. I'm not surprised that this ended up being the final design, but I'm not complaining. I wasn't all that fond of the other two, anyway.

  17. Honestly, they should have never used her as placeholder, it was unfair to the other Call designs and gave a biased approach.

  18. I voted H though I figured that wouldn't be the favorite. As someone else has already noted, it is surprising that the tallies between E and F were so close.

I do agree that it is a very silly thing to be overly upset about. It's cool that they left it up to the fans, and the fans have clearly spoken.

  19. "H" definitely had the best "design" if you like 'em basic and appealing. But "F" isn't bad either, so long as they don't stick with that Megaman Zero-ish art style.

  20. My take? Disappointed but not surprised.

They could have taken Roll, kept her colors and changed her clothes and it would have won. Oh wait, they did. Even her eye color is the same.

The game is shaping up to be a "spiritual successor" to Mega Man like The Great Giana Sisters is to Super Mario Bros.

  21. Looks good to me. People are gonna gripe no matter what, I guess.

  22. You guys know why she's Call "F", right?
Because she's a fusion of Ceil and Alia.

    Just tossing that out there.

  24. *Hope you enjoy text*

I’ve been seeing a lot posts that have a lot mixed feelings of Call F. Most of it deals with the fact on how much she looks like Roll. Now, I’m sure people picked her for different reasons, but people in the MN9 kickstarter, destructoid, various megaman websites, and etc. seem to have a huge issue with this. One of the biggest complaints being that “People merely picked her because they want their Megaman game and they’re stupid.” Hey, I liked E and F and I wasn’t a backer. Didn’t affect me……. In fact, I think a lot of the designs for Call would’ve been used better as Support characters, NPCs, or even villains (C and D). If Mighty No. 9 turns out successful, then it would most likely put Capcom in a lot of shame (they’re not only bad game developers, but also bad business people and terrible human beings).

Anyways…. Why are you guys putting the people who voted for F down? I’m not sure if the voting was rigged or not (I’ve heard weird things going on). But 43% is still a huge number. And I would think that those backers played a large role in getting the game where it is today. It is nearly HALF of the backers who voted for F. I don’t think pissing them off would be the best idea. If the development cycle for the game had any issues or controversies, going back on the poll would make things even WORSE.I am willing to bet that a large number of backers were indeed Megaman fans. Sure, nostalgia can be blinding (look at how people praise ****** games like Final Fantasy X), But as I said, they played a role so huge that it shows how much the care about the original creator. Again, I’m not too sure if they all voted for F. But if they did, is that any reason to put them down? To make them feel ashamed that they wanted something close to Megaman? I’m the type of people that would think that it’d be sad to see a person crying, just because they’re being them.

The best solution is to have the best of both worlds. I don’t know if anybody noticed, but there are campaigns to bring back several of the concept designs that would’ve been Call. I can’t make any promises that all of them will be used, but if one of the staff members imply that Call D might play a mysterious role in the game.

I am promoting the idea of using the designs to not only have them in the game, but also to ease disagreements. I myself don’t think the majority of the designs best suit Call (seriously, C looked like something from My Little Pony that gone terribly wrong). But I do think they have the best use as something else.

Remember, every backer was there when the developers needed them. We also need to look out for each other instead of hating each other. We got this far. Why stop over who’s Call?

    -Thank you
