Mighty No. 9, Comcept's ambitious spiritual successor to
Mega Man, has just seen its
Kickstarter campaign draw to a close. The finally number? Oh, just a paltry
$4,046,579.
In all seriousness, that's fantastic. That number comes from 67,226 backers (or "Beckers", as they like to be called). In a single month, you've not only raised enough money to fund the game itself, but a number of extra things too! Console and handheld ports, bonuses and stages... even an entire multiplayer mode. Pat yourself on the back. You did it.
The success of the campaing means a lot. But most interesting of all, I think, is this:
Mighty No. 9 is solid proof that Capcom does not understand the audience they have. The days of informally "gauging interest" should be left behind
-- Mighty No. 9, essentially, is all the evidence they need.
I offer Inafune, his team, and everyone working on the game my congratulations. Bring on 2015!
