Every Game Boy/Game Boy Color Mega Man Game Coming to 3DS Virtual Console
For two years the first Game Boy Mega Man title (Dr. Wily's Revenge) has been all by its lonesome on the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console. Soon, however, that's all about to change. Get your wallets ready because Capcom Unity have just announce Mega Man II, III, IV, V, Mega Man Xtreme AND Mega Man Xtreme 2 are all coming soon to the US and Europe.
Community Manager Brett Elston says they don't have release dates set in place just yet, but he felt this news was worth sharing ASAP. As soon as the dates are set in stone, he'll pass them along. He also says to stay tuned for more Virtual Console updates in the coming weeks.
All in all, very good news. We'll keep you posted!

Xtreme2 = Bought the very instant it is out.
ReplyDeleteYEAH!!! It's about time!!!
ReplyDelete...
Actually, the only game I don't own in physical form, is Mega Man IV. Even still, this is great news!
YES YES YES. GET THAT TRAIN MOVING OUT!
ReplyDeleteNOW GET WORKING ON THE GBA ONES. BATTLE NETWORK NEEDS TO RETURN!
I dont think GBA games are on the VC
DeleteThe ambassadors on the 3DS have GBA games. Meaning it is being considered for the 3DS. In addition, Nintendo said the Wii U VC will have GBA games eventually, meaning that yes, Battle Network will be reaching us again one way or another.
DeleteDamn. All we need is a new game announced and today is perfect.
ReplyDeleteYeah... that title is horrible misleading, by the way. Every Game Boy Mega Man game? No, not Zero-Zero 4. And while I understand 1-5 and Xtreme work on GB, Xtreme 2 is GBC only, so you can't really use that in defense. The title really should be updated to say "Every Game Boy and Game Boy Color Mega Man game"...
ReplyDeleteAlright, alright.
DeleteGreat Rockman World 4 and 5 are both good games, and Xtreme 2 ain't shabby either.
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU!
ReplyDeleteIt's about time. It took them long enough. You think they would already done this about a month or so after the re-release of Dr. Wily's Revenge, but better late than never, I suppose.
Awesome!! This makes getting a 3DS even sweeter!
ReplyDeleteAwesome now I can play Megaman V without having to 50$
ReplyDeleteHaving just finished piping the NES Megaman titles to 3DS, it's only natural that they'd devote the 2nd half of the 25th Anniversary celebration releasing these games too.
ReplyDeleteThough, to be honest, I do feel like these games, with the exception of Megaman V, kinda feel like imitations of the NES games. Not that it's anything to sneeze at. A 2nd rate Megaman game still buries most games ever made.
@Prof. Megaman
ReplyDeletehummm.....have you ever play Rockman World 4 ? It's far from an imitation of the NES games. IMO world 4 is the best of the 5 and the music, the gameplay, the stages (different from the nes games), the difficulty and the pacing are superior to World 5 (with the Mega arm, world 5 is really easy...but it's a great game)
no way, MMIV is nowhere near as good as V. Not only that but half the NES games blow IV out of the water.
Deletefor me, a good game is not an easy one and V is really easy
DeleteIV is more difficult IMO as well, but as much as I love it... it like the first 3 are pretty much imitations of the NES games.
Deleteand don't forget this garbage game (MM game gear...) rated by ESRB :

Great! Now the only GB Rockman game left is Capcom Quiz: Hatena? no Daibouken! XP
ReplyDeleteAnyways, Comic con capcom part is for now, right? http://www.ustream.tv/channel/unity-events

Hm, I wonder if they will color the GB games. I don't follow the VC very closely so I have no idea if they typically just keep it black n' white.
ReplyDeleteNow if they could only release MegaMan 5,6, MegaMan X4,X5,X6, and Powered Up all on the Playstation store.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget Mega Man 8 and the PS1 version of X3!
DeleteOh yes, how could I forget! MegaMan 8! That's my favorite one of the classic series too haha. And yeah X3 also
DeleteHow about Mega Man: The Wily Wars on PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii/Wii U?
DeleteBrett has since clarified on twitter this was going to be the Mega Man news at their ComicCon panel but they announced it early after cutting it for time.
ReplyDeleteWow really they cut it from their panel, what a slap in the face to MegaMan. Yet they have time to announce Strider for 2014. What the heck is wrong with Capcom seriously. I mean the new Strider looks awesome but really they cut it from the panel...
DeleteI guess, Protodude, you can probably update this entry as the real 25th Anniversary announcement now that Brett cleared up the miscommunication. It's cool and everything, but I'm still kind of bummed that that's all we get.
ReplyDeleteAt least there's a new Strider! Here's hoping the studio they outsourced to doesn't totally screw up and drop the ball. Strider has been my 2nd favorite Capcom property behind Megaman. Just shows that they can show some love for old franchises, considering the series hasn't seen a release in 13 (!) years. Hopefully Megaman won't have to wait that long.
@MNV
ReplyDeleteDouble Helix doesn't exactly have a strong track record.
Yeeaaaah. I'm hoping this one bucks the trend. But I've been burned on crap like that before. Really would have liked for it to have been in-house.
DeleteStill, it deserves a chance, and something's gotta salvage this evening.
Sounds like fun. Time to buy some more 3DS cards.
ReplyDeleteThis is good tidings. It's about time we finally heard some news on these little hidden gems. The 5th title is an especially good release.
ReplyDelete"Oh cool, I've player all these before... What else you got, Capcom?
ReplyDeleteOh, nothing?"
Yeah, the boycott continues.
boring waste of time. it's pretty clear the only legitimate way they will begin to mend things with fans is to reinstate games they have canceled, so how come they can't figure that out? the first being megaman legends 3. i have no f*cking desire to play these games.
ReplyDeleteNo cartridge = NO PURCHASE.
ReplyDeleteI was really excited when I saw this news posted to FaceBook, until I realized it was ROM images they were (re)selling. What a fool I was to think CAPCOM would someday make-up for cancelling Mega Man Mania...
I'm absolutely done with this company. *throws hands in-air*
"Let me tell you something my friend. Hope is a dangerous thing. Hope can drive a man insane." - Red
You clearly don't understand.
DeleteThe source codes for each game is lost. Gone forever. They can't complete Mania without the source codes. These are reversed engineered roms programmed to run on Nintendo's official emulator. Without the source codes, Capcom cannot alter the games for sound and color.
Sorry, friend. Deal with it.
I do understand, and have been completely aware of the "lost source code" dilemma for some time, now... I just don't want to buy into that.
DeleteA reputable video game company, such as CAPCOM, shouldn't misplace source code + assets. If that /really/ is the case, they have lost a tremendous amount of respect and admiration. It's difficult to retain faith, if/when stuff like that happens, and speaks volumes of incompetence.
What's next? Misplaced source and assets for Resident Evil? Street Fighter? How about the entire back-catalog?!
I admire their ROM hacking efforts, really... but No Thanks.
@11:16 AM Anon: Newsflash for you. It's a bad habit most of the Japanese game companies have had for a while. It's been going on from at least the NES into even the PS2 era.
DeleteWant a nice big recent example? Square Enix with the original Kingdom Hearts. All the original assets were lost, meaning they had to find the actual game and go off that and recreate EVERYTHING. Tetsuya Nomura said it's a lot harder than it sounds.
So right now Mania would be a freaking nightmare for Capcom and the few spriters they still have.
Hope Rides Alone...
Delete...cue Samuel Barber's "Adagio for Strings".
Delete@July 21, 2013 at 6:26 PM Anonymous - As I said before, it "speaks volumes of incompetence", no matter the company. It's pathetic and deplorable to think these companies have such little regard for their own cash cows.
They have no respect for their own intellectual property, which likely means they have little to no respect for their consumers. I am simply repaying that favor.

ReplyDeleteThis was indeed the news that was promised for Comic-Con. The only reason it was announced beforehand was because they didn't want Strider to overwhelm it... Even though by removing it from the panel, it made less waves. God damn Capcom please get it together -_-
Okay, I'll get Xtreme and Xtreme2, but... Kinda wish there was more to the announcement. Re-releasing old games... woo...
ReplyDeleteWell I'm definitely getting a 3DS now
