Capcom came into existence as a company back on June 11, 1983. That means the house that built Mega Man is turning 30-years old in a week. As part of the celebration, they've opened up a countdown site where you can send a short message. Be it well wishes or memories, Capcom wants to hear what you have to say.
Simply follow the instructions posted here and your message will appear at the top of the page when the full site opens next week. Everyone's invited to participate, bearing you don't write something inappropriate about the company. There's a time and a place to be "angry with Capcom" but this is not that venue. Get it? Got it. Good.
All things considered, you have to at least have one fond Mega Man memory. Why not share that? Or thank them for, you know, actually conceiving the franchise some 25 years ago. Just keep it positive. That's all.
Why bother it's obvious CoJ just doesn't care anymore a bunch of feel good letters won't change anything.

Maybe if they hadn't overworked Yoshinori Ono into the hospital and committed PR suicide (if the various cancellations didn't do it, the former should have), I'd have something nice to say.

It's also funny that the example profile image chosen for the "guidelines for posting a message", is that of Mega Man, himself.

All I want is Mega man games. Not a toy figure, not a poster, or whatever. Just some good games... now.. I'm truly trying to be positive, but I don't know what to trust Capcom, who killed Mega man and other Mega Man game (Hint: Mega Man Legend 3). -_-
ReplyDeleteFunny thing, all I ever wanted was for them to stop making games because there was an obvious drop in quality. Let the franchise rest for a couple of years until they figure out what to do and in the meantime release some quality merchandise.

If Capcom never started, we most likely wouldn't even have Mega Man. I am still grateful that Mega Man exists, and Capcom played a major role, even if they aren't treating Rock with the same respect we have for him.
ReplyDeleteI'm fed up and disappointed in Capcom as much as the next guy, but does that mean I'm going to be, frankly, a grump over their 30th anniversary? No, I'm not. Capcom, mainly CoJ, may have been an ass to us fans (and not just to the MM fandom, but other fandoms as well), but that doesn't mean I'm going to be spiteful at them, especially during this milestone. I also don't just enjoy Mega Man, but I also enjoy their other series such as Ace Attorney and Okami as well, and to an extant, Street Fighter. They still deserve a celebration.
ReplyDeleteThough as the site appears to be in Japanese, I think I'll refrain from posting a congrats there. Instead I'll do it here. Congrats Capcom for reaching such a great milestone, even if you haven't been the greatest as of late. We hope maybe things will start to get better for everyone, so that maybe there will be many more anniversaries to come.
My greatest fondest memory with Capcom doesn't have anything to do with Mega Man actually, but rather with Ace Attorney. When I first got into Ace Attorney, I was facing a lot of problems at the time and it was affecting my state of mental health. Ace Attorney, corny as this will sound, actually helped me out through those times. It was almost therapeutic. So I am still thankful for Capcom on helping me like that. Ace Attorney was probably when I first got into Capcom as a whole.
But it's not like I don't have fond memories of Mega Man either. My fondest memory of MM was when I was a child playing a rented copy of MM Legends (actually the 64 port, but whatever), and going into other people's files and just exploring the sub-gates they already unlocked. They were of course already emptied out, but I found a great joy in just running around like a fool and exploring for no particular reason. The other half of the time was running away from Reaverbots I was terrified of. Hahaha, good times...

You don't see any other companies making a website for themselves to celebrate their big birthdays by having fans wank off their egos.. At least I'm pretty sure I haven't heard of any. T_T

It's a typo, you really only have 30 characters (spaces included) to work with. I found out the hard way, and only figured it out thanks to the 30 in the Japanese text. I wanted to thank them for starting Mega Man, green lighting the D-Arts figures, and wish they'd continue making games. But alas, I couldn't fit it all in such a tiny space, so I ended up just thanking them for the figures.

ReplyDeleteMight I point out that CoJ may not be getting a lot of voiced opinions that they've been doing bad lately? I don't know what the Japanese fandom is thinking, but I'm guessing that they're pretty neutral and still happy with Capcom on a whole. Not to mention, there's the sales numbers of Xovers, which are pretty high. It might just be CoA and CoE that are getting most of the complaints, but they're hardly the ones at fault here.
