UPDATE: Well this is awkward. Brett just said over the Duck Tales stream he "doesn't know how news got out that a new Mega Man game is on the way, and that it is NOT what he said."
Further, Joystiq amended their original report with the following statement:
"Capcom has clarified Elston's comments, saying that a new Mega Man game has not been confirmed. The company is having "ongoing discussions about Mega Man," but it "won't announce anything until something is ready."
Original Story: According to Joystiq, Capcom Community Manager Brett Elston dropped a bomb at the World of Capcom panel at PAX East: a new Mega Man game is currently in development. Elston was unable to provide any further details, saying Capcom are not ready to officially announce the game just yet.
In other PAX-related Mega Man news, Capcom will be releasing a commemorative 25th anniversary statue. Mega Man 4 and Mega Man 5 were confirmed to hit the Nintendo 3DS eShop within the next two months on April 25 and May 16, respectively.

america fuck yeah!
ReplyDeleteYES YES YES
ReplyDeleteNow who wants to bet how long it'll be before Capcom cancels it?
ReplyDeleteI am not getting excited until I know what type of game it is, on what system it will appear, and it is certain to be released.
ReplyDeleteMy excitement for this announcement is mixed. On one hand, I'm very happy to finally hear a new MM game is in the works. Based on the timing and presentation, it may be rather mouth-watering.
ReplyDeleteHowever, on the flip side, I am reserving my excitement given that we lost three games. I really want this to be a game that will alleviate the sting from losing Universe, Legends 3, and Rockman Online. In that regard, I hope this isn't something small fry, lest we end up with another Xover. Nice idea, but horribly timed and poorly executed.
Let's see if this one makes it off the assembly line...
ReplyDeleteDUCKTALES! WOO-HOO!
Not getting hyped until they confirm it's not XOver 2... or until they confirm the game ACTUALLY holds some real value *Kappa*
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, Capcom.
ReplyDeleteI've been excited twice at this stage. I can't do it anymore. This is certainly a step in the right direction, and I'm not complaining. I'm very happy to hear this news. However I can't force myself to be excited about this until it's in my hands and you no longer have the power to cancel it.
This is outside the fact that the last two Mega Man releases I've seen almost looked impressive in screenshots but were disgusting in motion, and in gameplay, and were released only on cell phones.
I really hope this game is done correctly and earns you some friends back, but until I see more and have it in my hands I can't be excited for it.
There's no way that CoJ is going to cancel this one. It knows what that would do the already beleaguered fan base. It would be a PR disaster and also, they must be feeling pretty confident about it if they are telling us now.
ReplyDeletealright
ReplyDeleteSorry Capcom.. no excitement here.
ReplyDeleteFool me once shame on me
Cancel Legends 3 shame on you and no more money
Pull another Xover and you're dead to me.
Okay! We're on the right track, now! Nothing we can do now but sit back and wait and watch and pray.
ReplyDeleteWell, Alrighty then. False alarm, ladies and gentlemen. Nothing has changed.
ReplyDeleteBrett Elston just said on the DuckTales stream that he doesn't know how news got out that a new Megaman game is on the way, and that it is NOT what he said. Don't just publish news like this PB, you got all our hopes up.
ReplyDelete*sees update*
ReplyDeleteOr...not...
Okay...
I hope for a great game now!
ReplyDeleteROCKMAN WONT DIE! :D
What is Brett actually supposed to have said? Neither Rockman Corner nor MegaMan Network has an actual quote. It sounds like you may've just taken the usual "Capcom has plans for MegaMan's 25th Anniversary." or "MegaMan's 25th Anniversary lasts all year, guys!" stuff out of proportion.
ReplyDeleteWow that was the quickest cancellation yet Brett!
ReplyDeleteWow, this is really awkward now...
ReplyDeleteI thought as much.
ReplyDeleteCapcom to fans: "HAW! HAW!"
Man, like I've been saying everywhere. The only way this is going to work is if Capcom, Comcept, and Inti Creates work together. If Capcom goes on their own it will just be an empty shell of a game. Also, some series seriously need to end. Classic, X, Zero, Battle Network. They are done. X was supposed to end at 5 anyway. Capcom is just milking away and the dumb masses just keep feeding them. Star Force needs to come to a close and then ZX needs to be continued. After that we can look at Legends and later other things but it has to be done in a group or it will be bad. How can you have a game without the visionaries behind it? Sigh...
ReplyDeletenow, in all honesty guys, NOBODY got hyped with this because nobody actually BELIEVED in Capcom's words, so nothing of value was lost. We can carry on now
ReplyDeleteJust a bit of miscommunication; nothing to see here folks. Let's not all go pointing fingers for something like this.
ReplyDeleteCAPCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM
ReplyDeleteCapcom can be jerk sometimes.. Sighing! Capcom is a sore loser.
ReplyDeleteYou thought this is where you're going? Well, you were wrong. They're still killing Mega Man games. All they do is showing off with these statues. I think they are a funeral statue or memorial (dead).
ReplyDeleteI blame JoyStiq for not being 100% sure on this matter...
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iW-t5bEz9RU
ReplyDeleteLooks like I missed all the excitement. Good? :/
ReplyDeleteHahahahaha figures it wasn't gonna happen. Fucking Capcom.
ReplyDeleteGod... DAMN IT.
ReplyDeleteGoddamn, anyone have the original misinterpreted "quote"? I have to see this to believe it (PR cocktease or just over-imaginative fan-hopes?)
ReplyDeleteSo they retracted a statement that nothing's ready to be announced by saying nothing's ready to be announced...?
ReplyDeleteThe quote was a useless one anyway. "Oh, we're working on stuff." Same line we've been getting, same line we'll continue to get, same line you always get when a company is working on a game. Nothing to see here.
ReplyDeleteI got here late, saw the title, and now I am glad I got here late. :|
ReplyDeleteRaven : He is just as you said. In battle he is as if possessed by a
ReplyDeletedemon. Much like you. I would expect no less.
I am hoping it is not another 8 bit classic game, I am really getting sick and tired of the 8 bit games, what Capcom needs to do is get off their lazy behind and make a real Mega Man game in 3D with new and improved game play, as much as I liked the 8 bit platform games it is time to give it up and move on to something bigger and better.
ReplyDeleteOf course there's a game in development. There's plenty of games made that never reach the public eye because they get scrapped/canceled. There could be a Megaman game for all we know, but it's not in a steady, secure, ready state that Universe and Legends also lacked that makes it safe to reveal to the public.
