The closure we've been waiting for is finally here: Rockman Online is officially canned.
Neowiz confirmed the cancellation with Ruliweb this afternoon. According to the report, the project went under last November following consultation with Capcom Japan. The massive restructure of NeoWiz's own PC development workforce probably didn't help either.
So that's that. Farewell, Online. We hardly knew ye.

what a shame.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you expect? I already confirmed that the dev team has been disbanded last September.
ReplyDeleteMan, that took forever to confirm.
ReplyDeleteWas it ever alive?

ReplyDeleteAt least the news isn't as heartbreaking as Megaman Universe and Legends 3.
ReplyDeleteNOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooo!/kappa
ReplyDeleteSurprise, surprise, surprise...
ReplyDeleteIf Capcom want an sort of Megaman credibility right now, they'd better have something freaking amazing at E3 this year.
Top Men, we're counting on you.
I honestly could care less that RMO is cancelled.
ReplyDeleteibn4 omggg shut up Zerker u jus hate coz its not xoverrr
Sadly, as much as this was expected, it's still quite sad as the updated character designs and those two PVs looked top notch.
ReplyDeleteAnd while this wasn't a Capcom project itself, ending it after a meeting with Capcom still doesn't bode well.
Well, we hardly even knew you Rockman Online but for some, you will be missed along with the other cancelled Rockman games of our times.
To be honest, I think I'm MORE bummed about this than Legends 3. This game was looking amazing, back when it was alive. It was similar in concept to Rockman XOver (combining elements from across the Mega Man timeline), but way better executed. And I couldn't help noting that the cancellation came after a discussion with Capcom. Why does that not surprise me?
ReplyDeleteThis game was cancelled? Gee, what a shock. Honestly, I didn't even need to read this newspost in order to catch on to this. They've already made that plainly clear ages ago.

ReplyDeleteIf I lived in South Korea and the game actually came out, I would play the living crap out of it.
ReplyDeleteDidn't they announce that this game was cancelled months ago?
ReplyDeleteOkay, good. Clean slate. Come on, Capcom.
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised in the slightest. They could have confirmed it a lot earlier than this, but everything else was pointing to a cancellation anyway.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what the next thing to be canned will be, provided if there will be anything in the future. It's kind of hard to foresee.
To those saying the announced this before... they didn't.
ReplyDeleteThe site stopped updating. The concept artist said it was cancelled.
Neowiz didn't say a thing. This was up in the air for months.
@samuraisnake: You say this isn't as heartbreaking as Megaman Universe's cancellation, and yet I recall when its cancellation was announced the majority opinion of people (most of them on the blog comments) was pretty much saying, "Well, nobody liked him anyway." This ones cancellation I'd say on the level of the Vader No, while Legends 3's was a Luke No (Vader's apathetic & cynical reaction, Luke's deeply sad and heartwrenching).
ReplyDeleteCould really use a game that will be completed right about now.
ReplyDeleteIf I may, I partly think there's more to it than it seems.
ReplyDeleteAfterall, Capcom does have the Ghost n Goblins MMO happening in SK as well. From what I've seen, that MMO is more polished than RMO. It may have come down to 'Which one is more polished and ready?'
Besides, should we REALLY be getting butthurt over this? Universe and Legends 3 were bigger losses than an MMO half of us would probably drop after a month at best if it ever left South Korea which was highly unlikely.
WHAT AM I FIGHTING FORRRRR?????
ReplyDeleteAbove anon: GnG Online is not by neowiz.
ReplyDelete@March 13, 2013 at 7:40 PM Anon: I know. But I'm saying that Capcom may have looked at the two, gone 'GnG looks better', and then told NeoWiz they didn't want to continue with RMO. Just because Neowiz doesn't have a hand in GnG online doesn't mean it didn't have a factor in the final decision CoJ and NeoWiz had on RMO.
ReplyDeleteLame, but not exactly a surprise. Or much of a disappointment seeing as it's a game we'd never get anyway.
ReplyDeleteI really wish we could have seen more reimagined Robot Masters, though.
Wow, what a big suprise there. I honestly did not expect this game to come through. :/
ReplyDeleteWhat a shocker. Not.
ReplyDelete@Zerker:
ReplyDelete"bn4 omggg shut up Zerker u jus hate coz its not xoverrr"
...Says the person who dismisses valid criticisms of said game with "OMG UR JUS MAD CUZ DEY CANSULED LEGENDS 3"? You couldn't be a bigger hypocrite if you tried.
Unsurprising. But still disappointing...
ReplyDeleteWell, at least we got two nice animated videos and some artwork out of this one.
ReplyDeleteKind of a shame. I really liked the artwork and animated trailers they made for this game. But, I don't play MMOs, and even if I did, this one was never going to come here, anyway.
ReplyDeleteSo...it's kinda hard to miss something I never had...
Cacoppcpccom batting 3-for-3 now.
ReplyDeleteAdmittedly, I was never all that excited/hyped for L3/MMU/RMO anyways.
I was going to comment on how they threw some pretty cash to the toilet, but NeoWiz is actually doing not so bad financially, so they can afford this.
ReplyDeleteBut as Anon @ March 13, 2013 at 4:14 PM said, confirming its status after a CAPCOM meeting means they're through with MegaMan games altogether, or doing a single, high budget, fandom-sensitive game in hopes it'll do well.
Might as well be a reboot or a new series?
