Mega Man Meets Monster Hunter in the Crossover of my Dreams
Imagine the premise of Street Fighter X Mega Man. Now take out the Street Fighter characters and replace them with the titans of Monster Hunter. That's the inspriation behind this fan-art by Justin Cyr, best known for his work on Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game.
"After playing Street Fighter x Megaman, I thought it would be cool to see what Megaman x Monster Hunter could look like," writes Cyr.
Indeed, it is quite cool. The two franchises share a similar premise -- "tracking and hunting". If done right, Mega Man X Monster Hunter could work out exceptionally well! Would you play it?

No it'd get cancelled first.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorta wondering why Capcom haven't done this yet. Seems like a very good idea.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to say "take all of my money", but I'd rather see Capcom release actual Monster Hunter stuff over here. Then again, Capcom has a long way to go to earn my respect again.
ReplyDeleteLet's wait for the first gameplay video. It may be interesting, it depends on how it will be implemented.
ReplyDeleteThis would get delayed, than cancelled, then re-unveiled as Resident Evil X MonHun. Unless it was a cheap cell phone game, then it would release with little fanfare. Such is the sad future of Capcom's former mascot.
ReplyDeleteI'm no Monster Hunter aficionado but I'm at a major loss at the comparison here. Mega Man constantly takes down things much bigger than him and in some way or another gets weapons from his defeated enemies as is an element Which I am aware is also in Monster Hunter. He goes on the offensive and we see him almost exclusively invade hostile territory to the end of specifically destroying an individual Robot Master.
ReplyDeleteBut I can't recollect what "tracking" mechanic or parallel to it has ever been a part of any Classic Mega Man game. I can't even think of anything more than a few very loose overlaps with the concept of tracking as I understand it in the other series.

ReplyDeleteHunting Robot Masters/hunting Monsters.
Exploring a stage to find Robot Masters/Exploring a land to find the monster.
^And that's where I don't get it. The Robot Masters are at the end of the level, to the right. It's pretty much a foregone conclusion that the player will reach them without much misdirection. "Hunting" in the sense that you're keeping alert and on a mission to get the Robot Master seems apt. But it doesn't seem like there's "tracking" involved there.
ReplyDeleteBut I'm not sure if wandering around following foot prints, droppings, and the like is actually a part of Monster Hunter either.
What's Monster Hunter?
ReplyDeleteI could maybe see Robot Masters in Monster Hunter, but monsters in Mega Man? What's the point? Wouldn't they just be the same as any other mini-boss?
ReplyDeleteDisclaimer: I have only played a little bit of MonHun
I can kinda see this working.
ReplyDeleteI'm not as vehemently opposed to it as I was to Megaman X Street Fighter , but then again, I've also got a bias against Street Fighter, so there is that to take into consideration.
Anyway, Megaman vs giant robot monsters sounds like a series of Wily stages. I'm not complaining, so long as the level design isn't as sadistic and the graphics aren't as hard on the eyes as they were in MMxSF.
Yes. Yes I would. I don't know if any computer I own could handle it, but I'd certainly give it a try.
ReplyDeleteI sort of wish it wouldn't be 8-bit though.
From what I understand, Monster Hunter is just as much about hunting the monster down, as much as killing them, yes? It sort of defeats the purpose if everything is all on the same path.
Am I mistaken? I've never actually played a Monster Hunter game before.
This one actually looks interesting. I look forward to more info coming out on this. I have never played Monster Hunter but it looks like something I would play. :D
ReplyDeleteMaybe I am being too hopeful? I mean, c'mon! This is Capcom! They bash everything to a bloody pulp that is not their star games, and not in a good way. :/

ReplyDeleteHeck yes.
If they have Megaman Voltnutt instead, & in 3D PSX polygons! ^^b

ReplyDeleteNot in 8-bit, no. Sixteen bit I'm willing to look the other way for, but I personally don't like these throwback titles. Yes, they're easy to make, but I'd rather see the series evolve forward, rather than constantly trying to relive glory days.
