Capcom US Trying to Get Mega Man X Games on GOG

Over on the Ask Capcom forum, Christian Svensson reveals Capcom US has been attempting to get the PC versions of the Mega Man X series on GOG, an online distribution platform for DRM-free PC games. However, it sounds like there's been some hurdles getting the games over:

"I know there are individual releases of the older X series and we've been speaking with our guys in Japan to get them on GOG but progress has been slow. It's been more than a year."

While it's by no means a dead end, one can only wonder what the holdup is. As fans, I guess the only thing we can do is hope that all the kinks get worked out sooner than later.

  1. That would be excellent. Even if the PC versions weren't quite as solid the console ones, I think it would go miles in getting Mega Man X games better known again, especially if they're priced correctly.

  2. Japan is still pretty skeptical about digital distribution, so this isn't too surprising. Even Steam is a difficult hurdle for many of them so I can see smaller sites like GOG being a real struggle.

  3. @Wilynumber13:

I believe it. SEGA seems like the only ones who get it.

  4. As a fan, I already have the PC games.

  5. Interesting news, and it'd be great to see that happening. Some of the games like X8 had a great PC version, but they're getting more and more difficult to find. Having them available on GOG.com, with the care they put in their releases, would be outstanding.

  6. IIRC, X8 PC even had dual audio, which would be nice to have, just as an extra nice touch for people who could potentially download these.

I would definitely get myself a copy of X8 PC, even if I already own a physical copy, just to show support.

Sure, I'd like some actual NEW games, but I'm not exactly expecting that sorta thing anytime in the next 1-3 years.

  7. I'm sick of Japanese devs holding back digital distribution

  8. Capcom, get up off your ass and make this happen. This is great for those who ddidn't have a PS or PS2 or a Cube for 1-6, and never had a computer or one that could run the games as a kid.

This needs to happen, I can not stress this enough. The games can be run by most modern computers now, and with PC gamers, and gamers overall, being starved for Megaman games, will gladly buy these up. Hell, I WILL BUY ALL 8(And Command Mission) IF YOU PUT THEM ON STEAM AT FULL PRICE.

  9. I really hope Capcom US can put those games up for distribution at some point.

  11. Ugh, I hate digital distribution. I prefer having my games complete in box if I can! That's like the main reason I got the MegaMan 9 Press kit, just to have something physical for it. It's bad enough we don't get manuals really anymore showing some art pieces & maybe some backstory & character info. Now more & more games are just becoming digital, Kinda sad for me :( Also physical copies are awesome in my eye also for the fact you can bring it to a friends place, rather than bring your whole console :/

  12. I think it's absolutly sad and sickening that we as fans are getting excited... for rereleases. RIP MEGA MAN INDEED.

  15. I see absolutely nothing wrong with finding new venues in which to make old games available for a new generation of fans (or for posterity), so I'm all for the hurdles being cleared.

X8 was great fun, aside from two of the stages. Beyond that, great fun. I still have my PS2 copy to play, but I can imagine plenty of people who may be interested do not.

  16. I have (legitimate) copies of X3/X4/X5/X8 PC.

As fun as they are, I doubt I would pay money (a second time) to get them through GOG.

    @samuraisnake
On the subject of X7(PC), I'd be willing to pay for a retooled/improved version.

Which, knowing CAPCOM's history with (Megaman) ports/collections/re-releases, isn't f*ing happening, so my wallet remains closed to them another day.

  17. All well & good but we're still waiting for X3-X8 on PSN as well as MM7,8,V & MM&B on PSN/E-shop... why not get that done 1st?

  18. You know, I hate to be that snarky sarcastic asshole that nobody likes in the comments section, but I am entirely serious when I ask this:

We've been going through, what, 2 years of the most significant Mega Man gaming news updates being Capcom telling us why they can't release vintage games (or semi-recent prologues) that are already finished?

I'm sorry, I can't think of any way to NOT arrive at the conclusion that Capcom has a problem.

  19. just curious but, how come capcom usa isnt also trying to get the mmx games on psn? they could easily release the mm anniversary collection and mmx collection as ps2 classics and also release x7, 8 and command mission as ps2 classics as well to have most of the mm and mmx games on psn.

they could also release power battles and power fighters as a double pack on psn like they do with their other fighting games. and maybe mm battle & chase as a ps1 classic.
