Rockman Xover Localization Officially On Hold
Social RPG Rockman Xover, launched November last year in Japan, will not arrive in North America as initially planned, Capcom's senior vice-president Christian Svensson has said in a statement on the Ask Capcom forum.
"Based upon the largely negative feedback from MM fans, I've requested that we place any Americas release on hold for the time being," said Svensson. "We will revisit at a later date."
Capcom USA community manager Brett Elston reportedly confirmed a release for North America and Europe back in August. Somewhere along the line those plans changed. Of course, that's not to say plans won't change again. For now, though, we're not getting the game. Good, bad news... that's your call.

Thank you, Capcom US. You guys are alright.
ReplyDeleteCapcom U.S are rebelling against Capcom Japan. Awesome.
ReplyDeleteYou guys do know Christian svensson basically said that capcom should just leave megaman to die in a post once. He said that because of how big the franchise is they should just let it end and that its keeping them from other ips.
DeleteAmerica has been spared. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI doubt it would have gone well in the west anyways, it'd have to compete with other much more popular games in the micro transaction department.
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOUUUUUUU.
ReplyDeleteNO horrible games for occident, thanks.
Together, we will have our true megaman game! We have the soul, the unison :v
However...
USA USA USA USA USA!
ReplyDeleteI honestly couldn't care any less. It's not like I'm missing anything fun anyway.
ReplyDeleteEh, that works. Honestly, I like the concept of Rockman Xover. If it was ever refined, expanded, unsuckified in general, and then given a proper console download/release I think it could be decent. At present it is just kind of a pitiful little flash game.
ReplyDelete...
ReplyDeleteSo we, the fans, managed to get Xover's localization delayed indefinitely.
Hey genius' cheering in the comments, let's remember that we have to deal with genius CoJ here. Meaning if this reinforces their opinion that NA does not like Megaman...
You may have just doomed us all. Congratulations.
^
ReplyDeleteNo. We are reinforcing the fact we won't stand for just any Mega Man game. We won't stand for a cheaply made product.
That's why we're celebrating. Capcom US knows us. They had the foresight and understanding that we deserve something better.
First, the iOS game. Then, the franchise. I wouldn't be surprised if they stopped localizing any Megaman games if this pattern keeps up.
ReplyDelete^
ReplyDeleteShut up. This is a very good thing. No one wants it.
My, how mature. I'm sure you've looked over many forums, like Capcom Unity's Megaman forum for example, to be capable of saying "no one".
ReplyDeleteI would suggest you speak for yourself, rather than drag anyone else into your assumptions.
Lulz, I would like to call Zerker to the stand and get her (?) opinion on this matter.
ReplyDeleteI agree with MNV. I like the concept, the story, the characters... it's just the gameplay and the drab, repetitive stages that I don't like. If this were a more traditional Mega Man game, with actual controls, platforming, and what have you, I would have been all over it. But in order for that to happen, it would have had to have been on something other than iOS. The idea has potential, and the RPG elements can still work... but in its current state, I can't say I want anything to do with X-Over.
ReplyDeleteThe idea of X-Over isn't such a bad thing. Even EXE (and by extension, Starforce) and Legends either had spinoffs that featured or could feasibly be converted to a platformers' game design. Or vice versa. Or into something new, like a fighter, like Scramble Battle. The battle card collecting is even an extension of BN and SF. To see all the series represented in one game - that's not inherently a bad thing.
ReplyDeleteBut the story, graphics, and gameplay (or lack thereof, as it mostly boils down to setup) that are presented are poor at best. Here's hoping Capcom can learn from this rather than be bitter.
On a sidenote, I also hope they learn from DmC. More poor execution. I'd love to know who's greenlighting all these bad decisions and abhorrent DLC.
The XOver posts deliver again!
ReplyDeleteMisinformation, generalizations, blind assumptions, accusations, everything I've been looking forward to!
That said, I WAS curious as to why youtube wasn't flooded with "Let's Play Rockman XOver" videos.
Also, how hard is it to capture decent quality video/audio from iDevices?
Yay Sven!
ReplyDeleteZerker will probably throw a fit, but they have no vision. They can't see the potential, and refuse to listen to logic on the matter - I've explained many things that could have worked with the game, but they were too stubborn to understand innovation.
ReplyDeleteSo while you may want to get Zerker's opinion, just remember to nod your head and never oppose it - let them have their rant and move on with your life.
On the subject of the On Hold, let it never be said that Capcom of America doesn't listen to its fans. Even in CU, this game has very few fans - mostly people whining about wasted potential.
Tsk Tsk, Over-1 himself looked awesome & I wanted a chance to play the legit game. Sloppy game or not I'd take this over battle chip challenge ANY DAY!
ReplyDeleteGood job, "fans".
ReplyDeleteI don't see why so many people hate Xover so much I don't find a good reason to hate it, in fact I actually like Xover.
ReplyDeleteAs someone else said X-Over is not a bad idea. However, the idea of the game was not applied in a good way. If they they could create a good brand new Mega Man franchise like X-Over for consoles, it would be a hit, really
ReplyDeleteOn the one hand, I'm glad that CoA seems to be listening to the fans. On the other hand, I'm afraid CoJ would either misinterpret or deliberately misconstrue this as "MM doesn't sell in the US".
ReplyDeleteLet's hope CoJ won't be able to get away with the latter.
This game had SO MUCH POTENTIAL and they had to ruin it as an awful auto-sidescroller iOS game with no challenge or purpose whatsoever. Thank you Capcom US for realizing we didn't want it.
ReplyDeleteHmm... Can't decide if I should be sad that another Mega Man game has been cancelled or excited that this particular game will not see the light of day in the US. Such a paradox.
ReplyDeleteI feel like Neo dogging those bullets.
ReplyDelete...And nothing of value was lost for the US.
ReplyDeleteTo those of you who are talking down to the other fans who are glad that this got delayed, please consider:
ReplyDeleteXover is not very good. If it was released here as-is and bombed, then the damage it would do to the franchise's future (at least in the US) would be disastrous. CoA might be using the delay to give CoJ time to make Xover less terrible.
And I was kind of looking forward to this. I mean, it's better than not getting any official games. And the 25th of disappointment continues...
ReplyDelete@Radix: The only way that would happen would be to redo Xover entirely. And I don't think CoJ is willing to do that now that Xover has a really bad rap.
ReplyDeleteWe are literally looking at a Universe situation. The worst kind of situation.
Aside from the not very nice graphics (mega man 7 looks way better), the game seemed alright and I really want to play it. I am somewhat bias towards this game though because I just recently became a mega man fan and this would be the first release I could experience (my computer can't run SFxMM >_<). But then again, the only iOs device i have is 1st gen itouch so it didn't matter
ReplyDeleteIt's not getting localized? Gee, what a regrettable loss.
ReplyDelete...
Not.
The real problem here is that they haven't made another Mega Man X yet, so no matter what they do I'll be pissed.
ReplyDeleteHave any of you guys actually played it, though? And do most of you know it was released for free? It's got microtransactions out the yin-yang, but none of them are necessary unless you just want to powerlevel. For as much hate as I was giving it before I downloaded it, I sure have played it every day since. Sure, it's only been played for like, 30 mins tops each day, but it's an iPad game. Frankly, after playing other free iPad games, I'm surprised I had these ludicrously high standards for it to begin with.
ReplyDeleteThere's also special events that go on, such as "Can't Beat Airman," where they've upped Airman's numbers to ridiculous levels, but you get special Battle Memories for beating him. It's a fun game, is what I'm getting at. Yes, the idea is kind of wasted on an iPad game, but it certainly doesn't deserve the level of vitriol it gets, and you guys are all the poorer for not being able to play it.
Oh...guess that answers my earlier question.
ReplyDeleteOh, well. It's not like I have an iOS device to play this "game" on anyway, so...no big loss, I guess.
It's too bad, though. Like Star Force, this game had a lot of potential: a character with a cool design, an intriguing over-arching storyline, and lots of customization. But, alas, a neat concept was ruined by poor execution.
Sad.
@Spike: Is the entirety of the core gameplay the same as in the flash representation of Rockman Xover but the bosses get stronger and stronger, and you can do it with teams?
ReplyDelete@Spike
ReplyDeleteYes... Because adding memes and padding to a semi-automated, back-and-forth slap fight automatically makes it worth playing.
Processing, attempting to give a damn...
ReplyDeleteOkay, here is the closest thing to a damn that I have to give:
I'm honestly a little surprised. I mean, the main reason I considered this game anything less than offensive was the idea that as a cell phone game (free to play model, also, wasn't it?), it's not geared towards the same audience that Mega Man traditionally is. I saw it as a victim of poor timing in that "traditional Mega Man" was on the receiving end of a nuke button right before it was announced, and so we were left with nothing ELSE to turn to but something clearly mismatched to us.
But if Capcom cares, at all, what we think about XOver, then that kinda implies that they WERE hoping to market it towards us. And...what are we supposed to think about that? Better late than never that they realize the mistake, I suppose. Maybe, realizing that timing is the problem, they're just holding off until some dignified project has been announced as well? I mean, seriously, send us 1 MP3 and 2 pieces of character art, and you gave us everything worthwhile that XOver has to offer.
@Tag: Pretty much. I mean, depending on how many enemies you chain with a charge shot or giga strike increases how much money you get from them. The bosses are an entirely different story; the stage bosses are straight 1-on-1 fights period. The only changes between battles are what special effects your cards have activating. Sometimes, it'll be cool and you'll end up getting like, DEF down a whole bunch, sometimes nothing will activate. I haven't figured out what makes it do that yet, but I'm sure I'll figure it out. The Master Bosses are the ones you fight for completing a map, and those can be multi-fights as long as you have one of the "friend call" items. But the boss is also shared among your friends list, so you can get a few battle memories from them without actually having to fight them. Then there's the Team Battle bosses, where you'll find something like the Mecha Dragon in one of the stages, and it'll pop up for the two teams of two. Score's based on damage done during your turn, and during your turn your partner is there as well, and at the end of the week the teams that did the best get a huge card pack. So there's more to it than the flash game insinuated, but the gameplay is pretty much the same. But each armor also has a different card configuration, and depending on what you have you get different bonuses, so the level of customization is actually pretty great.
ReplyDelete@Cyberguy: My point is, they've added the event, they've added two new worlds, and a lot of new team/master bosses, and a lot of new cards since release. There's support for it, random double XP, double zenny, half-off card upgrades, and other such events that run. There's a lot of support going into this game, when they could have just released it as is for free, locked all the content behind paid transactions, and been done with it. This isn't what they've done, and while the gameplay is lacking, it's for the damn iPad; what'd you expect? Does Jetpack Joyride suck because of the gameplay being "touch the screen to ascend, let go to descend?" Does Temple Run suck because it's an infinite runner with a jump button and that's it?
I'm glad.
ReplyDeleteWe didn't actually need the game, so it's good for Capcom US to not bother for the time being. There's also some other positives to this as well. We wouldn't want any new people considering MM to try out Xover as their first game, Xover would just be a bad impression on them.
However, like the guy said, there's also the possibility of them revisiting it... With any hope, it won't come here to America.
I truely hope that the "on hold" status gets upgraded to "cancelled" for the NA market. And before all of you with a bee in your bonet jump on me and burn me at the stake for mentioning the word "cancelled", this is one game we can do without!
ReplyDeleteGood job, Capcom USA. :D You guys at least show you somewhat care (somewhat), and this sort of makes me wish it was you who made the games and not COJ. :) Though, it would be nice if you would stop lollygagging and release certain titles on the Playstation network and 3DS (gameboygamescough). But I will be nice since it was nice of you to save us the embarrassment that is Xover.
How will I sleep tonight?
ReplyDelete@Spike
ReplyDeleteDo any of those free to play games have the rich history and deep gameplay that Megaman has?
I'm not against handheld games. Bad Piggies is freaking amazing, but it's also really deep with a lot of mechanics to explore and experiment with. With Xover, you get: Jump, shoot, look at the pretty, sluggishly animated graphics, and grind if you can't win the slap-fight at the end of the level.
My point is that just because it's a cellphone game doesn't give it a free pass on being a pile of crap with some extra bells and whistles.
@Cyberguy: No, but I've said before that I agree the concept of Xover is wasted on the iPad. However, it's an iPad game nonetheless, so it's not going to have any kind of groundbreaking gameplay. You guys all seem to want it to be Megaman X on the iPad, and X on the iPad sucks. They're games that are made for controllers, and don't translate well to the iPad.
ReplyDeleteBe mad at the concept being used on the iPad, but don't try to judge an iPad game based on console games, because they'll just never measure up. If this thing's not coming to the states, I fail to see how that's a good thing any way you slice it. You guys won't even be able to give it a chance, and thus a fair assessment, and really, it's your loss.
Can I also mention again that it's free? I've had it since it released in Japan and haven't spent any money on it whatsoever. It's not like Theatrhythm on the iPad, where the game is free but you have to pay for any and all kinds of progression.
ReplyDeleteThis whole thing's kind of like when your grandma got you that really ugly jacket for your birthday or a holiday or something, and you told her, rudely, that you didn't want it. Now she's not giving you -anything- and you think that's a good thing.
@Spike
ReplyDeleteSonic CD was able to be on the iPad, no problems. Sonic 4, episodes I and II, both worked fairly well for what they were. There are plenty of amazing games for the iPad, so there's no excuse for Capcom to give us crap other than they're lazy and they thin we'll eat up anything with Rock's name on it.
And quit comparing Capcom to a relative. They owe us nothing, we owe them nothing. If they aren't going to give me something that meets my expectations for a quality game, then they're not going to get any of my money, and I am glad that they're not going to get money or downloads from anyone who thinks this garbage is a worthwhile purchase.

@cyberguy: Last time I checked, neither of those games were f-r-e-e. That's where the disconnect here is, I think. It's FREE. FREEEEEEEEEE. Also, both of those suck playing them on the iPad compared to a console, but that's really opinion. My point is, it's a full, free game for the iPad, that requires a whopping zero dollars to progress. You don't have to spend any money whatsoever. You guys are all looking a gift horse in the mouth, and really should be ashamed. You're saying it's not worth the price of nothing, which is ridiculous. Whatevs, your loss. I'm out.
ReplyDeleteDang I was looking forward to this one. I saw a comment that said that the fan base is getting spoiled. I can agree with that. It's not the best Mega Man game but it was a new Mega Man. I can only hope that they will revisit this at a later date.
ReplyDelete@Spike
ReplyDeleteOkay, have some garbage shaped like a gift horse. I know you won't check it's mouth. It's free.
Enjoy being a pompous jerk. It's hard to be high class when your standards are so low.
@Spike:
ReplyDeleteSo, having standards and/or not being a blind fanboy that'll automatically eat up anything that has "Mega Man" or "Rockman" on it means that we're "spoiled"? Okay, yeah. Gotcha.
As for me, I can't say that I'm shedding any tears or losing any sleep over this at all. Like I said before, Xover is even worse than what Universe was shaping up to be before its cancellation, and that's saying a lot. Again, like I've said before, I've seen and played pirated games that were better than this piece of garbage.
I'm.. upset over this. But not in the way you'd think.
ReplyDeleteEven though the game was garbage, the iOS drones would have downloaded and used the microtransactions in droves, bringing in large amounts of money to Capcom.
Money that could've been used for a new Megaman game, that it's been desperately needing since Keiji said there wasn't enough money to create a full proper console game, which will only increase with the new generation (remember improved textures, engines etc means higher dev costs, meaning our chances go down by the day).
Just f*cking great. Unless the franchise really turns around, I doubt we'll see a proper entry on the Wii U, let alone the PS4 or Xbox 720.
@January 31, 2013 at 9:10 PM Anon: The downside to the iOS drones jumping on it is that Capcom might use that as an excuse to NOT produce a less-crappy MM on consoles or handhelds, since apparently those don't sell.
ReplyDelete@Radix: Well I hope you like iOS games and rereleases, because thats where all the income is coming from.
ReplyDelete^
ReplyDeleteSource or it didn't happen.
To those who are worried that CoJ might interpret that MM is dead in the West, well us fans still have one way to prove that it's not...
ReplyDelete...by increasing more campaign for Legends 3, X9 and other more awesome MM games!
