Rockman Xover Staff Interviewed; Boss Character Contest Teased
The Mega Man Network has translated an interview with some of the production Rockman Xover staff, which consists of the producer, Takeshi Tezuka, the director, Mr. Matsuura, and two sound team members, "Mr. X" (aka Setsuo Yamamoto) and Masahiro Aoki.
For the most part, the interview covers the process behind Xover's main theme song, written by Aoki. However, we're also treated to brief stories about the inspiration for the game and the original Mega Man X. Towards the end of the discussion, the staff tease the prospect of a boss character contest. That's right; we may end up seeing fan-made bosses in future updates. Nothing official yet, but they're working on it.
There's a whole heap of info to read, so head on over to TMMN and check out the full interview.
brb, getting butter for my popcorn.

I feel the utmost security and confidence in giving my plans for a fighting robot to a team who employs someone referring to himself as Mr X.
ReplyDeleteOh dear... But I'm certain Capcom will redeem themselves by making a better MegaMan game than the piece of crap called Xover. But other than that, we're getting Project X Zone this summer. It has to count as a MegaMan game, but it's a Bamco game with MegaMan X in it. So we should be happy that we're getting a MegaMan game not made by Capcom.

ReplyDeleteIt's not a Mega Man game in the least.

ReplyDeleteIt's the furthest thing from a Mega Man game made by Capcom.
And judging by it's press and user reviews in Japan, it's not too big of an improvement compared to Namco X Capcom, which was barely worth a 5 out of 10 when it came out.
If anything, if it didn't have the Namco, Sega and Capcom characters, no one would have given a shit about PxZ nor NxC.
its seems capcom run out of ideas again telling the fans to design a boss for them
ReplyDeleteno one wants his fan boss on this game anyway
@Amir: Actually you can't make that call. Without Namco, Capcom and Sega characters, the stories of both would be radically different, as parts of the story and areas are influenced and based on the franchises taking part in the crossover. It may have even made it easier to improve both story and gameplay since they'd be allowed to build it purely from scratch.
ReplyDeleteAnd without those characters, they probably wouldn't have happened nor be called NamcoxCapcom or PxZ
Sad when even a good old-fashioned Boss Design contest, something pretty specific and a good trait of Megaman games, is just tainted.
ReplyDeleteI still don't know how this didn't get pulled. If there's effort in the combat system, it's obscured by lackluster controls and shoddy graphics. This is X2 iOS repurposed.
Anyway, the theme song is probably the best part of the game.
@January 29, 2013 at 10:01 AM Anonymous: They have done boss character contests ever since MM2. This is really nothing different compared to those days.
