Mega Man Star Force Invades Xover
Listen up, Xover fans: a batch of new Mega Man Star Force stages have been added to the game. Combatants this time around include Cygnus Wing, Queen Ophiuca, Gemini Spark, and Cancer Bubble. Some familiar EM Viruses have been thrown into the mix, too. Oh, and there's a new form available for your consumption. It's pretty swag. Very Star Force-y.
For those inclined, swing on by 4Gamer for more images. Here's hoping the Mega Man Legends stages are next!

When the image was small I was excited to see the sprites, but when I got closer... God, it looks almost as bad as the DOS Megaman games x__x
ReplyDeleteOver-1's looking sort of like X's Ultimate Armor from Command Mission there. (it's not half bad honestly, it got rid of the huge disk anyways)
ReplyDeleteSort of interesting to see Star Force bosses in the game now, does that mean we've gotten bosses from Classic, X and now Star Force? (or have there been additional ones as well?)
shitty sprites.
ReplyDeleteWow.. ugly sprites. Disappointment.
ReplyDeleteCome on Capcom... We all know the iPhones can do way better sprite wise. And you have micro transactions. Step it up.
ReplyDeleteHappy to see some Star Force love in this but good lord those "HD sprites" look awful.
ReplyDeleteIt may have slipped past me, but have any Zero series (Z1234/ZX/ZXA) bosses been announced yet?
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the "HD" sprites.
that still looks pathetic.
ReplyDeleteMan, Gemini Spark looks...off. It's the face, mostly.
ReplyDeleteThey all have really large heads. These look a little more well developed than some of the previous bosses. Cancer Bubble is just flat out lazy, but not terrible-looking either.
ReplyDeleteHooray...
ReplyDeleteI've said it before and I'll say it again, Xover looks like a fan game made in Flash. The kind of stuff you'd see at Newgrounds. Are they hiring 14 year olds to make the graphics?
ReplyDeleteIf only this game didn't suck. Seriously, I love the idea of a massive crossover, but... well, it kinda needs stuff like gameplay. That's kinda important, ya know. =/
ReplyDeleteI say you're falling short there Anon 2. Over-5 doesn't have much going for it in the way of being a CMUA homage. He isn't just not flying. He isn't decked out in weapons, doesn't have an external targeting scanner, isn't using a weapon derived from that armor, and isn't even using a heavy weapon in both hands.
ReplyDeleteI feel very safe saying Over-5 is clearly designed in the vein of the Gundam Heavyarms Kai. His art cell's brandishing a two barreled buster with an integrated shield. It's design is also squarer and has more pronounced segmenting than all the other Overs, much like Gundam designs. Also his ingame color being promo'd as turquoise seems to lock that up pretty well.
Cygnus Wing is ok, but Gemini Spark... Come on Capcom, you can do better. (when not lazy)
ReplyDeleteMaybe for me, as someone who actually plays this game and doesn't just look at screenshots and news posts and bitches about the game without actually playing it, this was pleasant news when I first seen them added to the game.
ReplyDeleteNot to mention, Over-6 (the new armor) looks fantastic, and I can't wait to unlock it after I finish up these stages.
What's nice as well is that these stages even use respective Star Force music as well. The Stage Select uses SF1's Title screen music (full song), when on the road it has Ride On! VR.1 from SF1 (regular battle theme), and for bosses, it uses SF3's boss battle theme.
What's also interesting is now that all the Team and Duel battle matches now use the Star Force background for those fights as well.
Not to mention, a whole slew of bugs and glitches were fixed, as well as lowering the Zenny cost for Battle Memory leveling up, least for now.
It's nice that there are now Star Force stages, but holy shit Gemini Spark's sprites look ugly (which is a shame because he is one of my favourite characters).
ReplyDeleteAlso correction on that last paragraph: "Here's hoping that the Zero/ZX stages are next."
To be read in the voice of someone falling off a cliff:
ReplyDeleteStiiiill doooon't caaaaaaaaaaare!
@Amir: Let me clarify something for you.
ReplyDeleteThe general opinion of Xover's gameplay has changed as word has gotten around that there's a sh*t ton of customization to be had behind the scenes and that later bosses will actually beat you if you aren't properly leveled and customized.
However, it's sprites we are now focused on. As experienced gamers, most likely all, or some of us, have played iOS games before. We see stuff like Angry Birds, Sonic, Zenonia, and Batman on there with amazing graphics/sprites, and are pleased with that. But then we look at Xover and go 'Come on...'
There are plenty of F2P games on Android and iOS that look better than Xover and use microtransactions to make money. As I and many others have said, we are trying to actually have Capcom give a cr*p about it's mobile titles and actually put effort into them, especially Xover which looks to be our last hope. Alot of casuals won't play ugly games, and Xover looks ugly.
Capcom wonders why we aren't happy with their handling of Megaman, and why it's been going down the drain, and it's because they've been giving minimal effort. And we want to change that, starting with Xover. Even if we can't undo the damage the earlier worlds and SF have done, we can at least help avoid it with later worlds and Xover armors.
"The general opinion of Xover's gameplay has changed..."
ReplyDeleteI wasn't aware of this.
WOW, that Over sprite looks even more of a mess of pixels than X3's armor sprites. I didn't even think that was possible...
ReplyDelete@Raycon: It's a slow change, but it's happening. While the Classic/X/Zero/ZX fanboys are being stubborn about it, those that played EXE and SF have realized the heart of the game is the customization, not the platforming part. I think the platforming was added on as an afterthought because they realized the RPG aspect would potentially turn off the die hards who say 'if it isn't platforming, it's not Megaman.'
ReplyDeleteIs Capcom still trying to convince people to spend money on that game? They're more persistent than I thought.
ReplyDeleteThey got that spritework for a discount price.
ReplyDelete@January 25, 2013 at 10:42 AM
ReplyDeleteYeah. I'm starting to finally realize why the MM fanbase hated Xover. It's a half assed game made by Capcom's lack of creativity and I can't understand why some fans of EXE and SF liked this crap. I mean it's a really crappy poorly made game for mobile devices. Seriously, Project X Zone will be better than the piece of crap called Xover. And I don't want to flame, but screw the idiots who liked this crappy excuse of a game called Xover!
Oh, how I missed the good days when Capcom make good games...
@Zerker: Nope, pretty sure he meant Legends
ReplyDelete@Musashi The Master: Obviously you didn't read. The RPG side which Capcom fails to showcase is way deeper than it looks. And it's harder than it looks.
ReplyDeleteYeah you can beat Storm Eagle first try. But guess what? When you try again, he gets a stats buff. And then he destroys you because your cocky ass thought you didn't have to do anything. Everytime you beat a boss, they become stronger and stronger with each defeat.
Without proper battle memory set up and upgrading, bosses are hard. Even with proper set up, they can give you a run for your money.
To further prove the point of what Anon said down at the bottom about how bosses become harder:
ReplyDeleteLet's just say, unless you're REALLY beefed up, you're gonna get one-shot killed by ALL the bosses from World 4 and up. The SSR bosses are quite powerful, and even with the crazy stuff I have on my account (all obtained by winning Team Battle modes and using the promo codes), I still BARELY beat Lv1 Cygnus and Queen. Their Lv2 versions basically wiped me clean. XD
Kinda wish that the Black Ace, Green Shinobi, Red Joker and Bug Style EXE Battle Memory cards weren't Crest (real money) exclusive cards. Same with the uber-powerful Sirius card.
@Anon 25, 11:58 AM: Stop lumping the BN/and-or-SF fans up and giving us a bad name. Plus BN/SF isn't all about customizing. The main games are about customizing, technique, skill and knowledge. You must be confusing the BN/SF series for one cheap game where customizing entirely makes the game, "cough"(Battle Chip Challenge).
ReplyDelete@Anonymous who seems to think that the game is good: If the core gameplay is still the same, it still freaking sucks. Customization won't save it. I'm looking at gameplay videos of some more recent bosses. It still looks freaking boring to play and ugly to look at. Even if it's harder, that doesn't change how lousy this looks. Shitty game is still shitty, no matter the difficulty and customization.
ReplyDeleteOf course, I stopped giving ashit about Xover when I found out about the new abomination that pisses all over fans: Final Fantasy All The Bravest! :D
@TAG: *looks up FF All the Bravest*
ReplyDelete...well, I gotta give Capcom some credit for not sinking THAT low.
I want the Sprites!!!!!! where are the sprites?
ReplyDeleteFinal Fantasy All the Bravest makes Xover looks good, and that's quite sad
ReplyDeleteSprites are here btw.
ReplyDeletehttp://ge.tt/6779KQW
-User searched Final Fantasy All the Bravest
ReplyDelete-Critical hit!
-It's super effective!
-User is confused! (Huh? What?)
Yuck!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat's all I have to say. :|
Wait, wait, wait. Back up.
ReplyDeleteWhat's this I'm hearing about Xover requiring some amount of strategy in order to win against bosses? Is this true? It's not JUST tap to jump, tap to shoot, running forward automatically kind of game? When did this happen?
Furthermore, is this game even out Stateside?
Even if its...those sprites, man... Poor Gemini Spark. D8
