What you see above is the teaser trailer for Team Reaverbot's thrilling 25th anniversary fan-game.
The project is literally a labor of love for fans, by fans. In fact, Team Reaverbot is headed up by six video-game-industry professionals including Julian Spillane, former CEO of Frozen North Productions and current Director of Technology at DHX Media. He's followed by the likes of Jason Canam (DrinkBox), Jeff Canam, Orie Falconer (Vast), Tim McLennan (GameLoft), and Daniel Ochoa (Vast). Impressive, no?
I, for one, am looking forward to giving it a spin. We'll keep an ear out for more details!
Thanks to Julian Spillane for the heads up!
Man, this looks absolutely terrific! Can't wait until it's released!
ReplyDeleteAwesome. Better than anything capcom's going to put out.
ReplyDeleteMight be getting a chance to try this out early, I'll be sure to toss up a few impression (w/Julian's permission of course).
ReplyDeleteThat was, uh... Different.
ReplyDeleteI'll reserve judgment until I actually play it. Right now, I'm skeptical at best.
Now THAT looks to be quite enjoyable. It seems to have the right combination of complex level design and fan-service. Also, are those the Toxic Joes from Megaman PC 3?! I hope so! If they are then I hope more of the PC enemies show up~!
ReplyDeleteI'm not in love with the visual design that seems to break a fair bit of the 8-bit rules, but I am convinced that it will play very well!
ReplyDeleteThat is what matters most. The two boss fights presented so far look pretty fun.
My only problem with the game so far is the lack of Bass. Otherwise, it's looking pretty good. This is how a crossover should be done. Not that piece of crap they've released for the iOS recently.
ReplyDeleteHa! I love the very last segment. Good fanservice.
ReplyDeletethe Bonnes in the classic universe? awesome!
ReplyDeleteLOL The last part is just the best!
poor Mega Man 8, i think 8 is a pretty good game it deserves more love.
Also we need more playable characters like Bass and Duo!
This is probably a million times better than anything CAPCOM will do for Mega Man fans. The end of this clip made me laugh-out-loud. I can't wait to see more...
ReplyDeleteTime travel? What the....I...I'm waiting for this.
ReplyDeleteSLIDE SLIDE
ReplyDeleteJUMP JUMP
KILL KILL
So even though this breaks a ton of MM Classic design conventions, the Tarot Man midboss was freaking SICK. Amazing.
Capcom.. take notes! This is how a game for the 25th anniversary should be! See the effort put into this game? That is what your creative team should of done! So sad your fans are doing a better job, for free! Shows they care!
ReplyDeleteWhile this is not perfect, it does look like something that would be quite enjoyable. I look foward to giving it a try.
Taking all bets. "Wily's behind it" still pays 1-18.
ReplyDeleteThe fans are making more of an effort than Capcom is.
ReplyDeleteI hope Tron falls for Rockman again! ♥
ReplyDeleteOk, this game looks beautiful. I am excited to see if they include Bass, or Duo. I would also love and I mean LOVE to see controller support!
ReplyDeleteMegaman 7-8 demakes were stunning (maybe not as much as this) but were held back by a lack of the ability to control with a gamepad :(
Do they have a project site?
...so basically it's just another Classic game, but with a slightly legends skin.
ReplyDeletePass. I'm sorry, I... just don't like Classic.
Hey guys, Julian from Team Reaverbot here. Thank you for all of your comments and feedback. We're listening...this game is for all of us fans. :)
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to confirm that we do indeed already have controller support. We've tested on X360 controllers, and USB NES and SNES pads.
♥ the last part!
ReplyDeleteIt looks wonderful! Of course, as always, it takes fans to make the games. Even on Mega's 25th. Kinda weird that The Bonnes are in it, but I'm sure it's all explained.
ReplyDeleteNow, while I love classic, I feel there's just entirely too much of it. At least in 8-Bit form. 7, 8, and even MM&B are the black sheep and they are some of the best in classic. While it is refreshing to see so many new ideas made by fans in the style of 8-Bit classic, I'd really like to see further steps taken.
As for MM8 and the Jump, Slide stuff...*sigh* what's the problem? Was it that annoying? Was a robotic voice so out of place? Do a ton of fans have to nitpick?
Definitely something I'm excited for! I can never get enough Classic Mega Man! :D ALTHOUGH as mentioned before, it breaks NES rules. A LOT. For shaaaaaaaaame, Reaverbot!
ReplyDeleteSo it's basically a Classic/Legends crossover? Sorry not interested. (although it does look rather nice)
ReplyDeleteHmmm... well, I like XOver's story, characters, and premise, but not what appears to be its gameplay. While this fangame, on the other hand, seems to be the complete opposite for me. I like the way the gameplay looks, but the story and premise doesn't seem to be on quite as big of a scope as what XOver was trying to do. If it's only incorporating the orignal series and the Legends series, it's not quite... grand enough. Especially if all it is, is an original series game that happens to have the Bonnes as the final bosses. That's just my two cents, though.
ReplyDelete@fantasy
ReplyDeleteClassic is the best series period.
@Fantasy Empress Rolina
ReplyDeleteOk? but you do know that Classic is the overall main series, and everything else are side series right?
Besides this is Classic as well as the whole series' 25th anniversary.
What I'm sad about is that it's another 8-bit game, I know this isn't made by Capcom, but we have to move on from 8-bit if we want Mega Man to not just be a side thing to Capcom, there's nothing to hold in newer gamers, and the games are few too short for this day and age.
Capcom will have to really try the next time they make a Mega Man game, if they want people to forgive them, and to bring in new fans.
And no we don't need a new series yet, how about fixing up some, and finishing the others that should be finish first.
@Rolina Let me guess you like Zero, EXE or Star Force? Sorry but this is the 25th anniversary of CLASSIC MEGA MAN. Besides Classic, X, and Legends are 5x better than EXE, Zero, Star Force, and 20x better than the garbage that is XOVER
ReplyDelete@ 5:08PM Anon - Suddenly, a rabid Mega Man fan.
ReplyDeleteAlso you forgot about ZX, and you're calling yourself a Mega Man fan?
Also, why is everyone bashing Rolina? All they said was that they don't like the Classic series, no need to bitch at them for it.
ReplyDeleteFor once I agree with Zerker. I love all Megaman series, but not everyone thinks the same, and that's alright
ReplyDeleteIf by "Everyone" Rolina's white knights are referring to just two comments (one of which isn't even bashing), I think a bigger insight on things is necessary.
ReplyDeleteBesides (looking at Rolina's response) dissing the game that way from an independent studio which has been working hard on this (and it shows), and most likely could release the game for free* which is, let me remind you, way more than most of us have done for the franchise as fans... I'd think said reactions were expected. Not that it was alright, but you couldn't expect less from that kind of responses.
Truth is, we're being over sensitive about everything, guys. I know you're stressed, but don't let it wear you out. Quit the bitching, keep the playing, keep enjoying.
*~As failed as his approach to capcom was, I still think this is the team's main priority when it comes to release, but idk, it's up to Reaverbot Studios.
@Zerker @Rolina
ReplyDeleteKiss off, it's rude as hell to bash a fan game that has a lot of love put into it just because you don't "like" Classic MM who really is by all purposes the real Mega Man. I never commented on a site before but I think it's especially horrible of people like you Zerker to start this fan on fan site wars. We get it, you like Xover, and hate when people bash it. This is a fan game made by fans like you, so your dismissive comments are apalling.
Man, who said Mega Man won't have a good 25th?! The fans will make sure he does!!!!
ReplyDeleteEPIC for shooting that damn SLIDE SLIDE sign! I HATED THOSE THINGS IN MM8!! HAAAAAAAATTTED THEM!
@Dream-Crusher:
ReplyDeleteI don't recall any of them actually bashing the game; they just simply said that they weren't interested in it. Other than that, I agree with pretty much everything else in your post.
uhh
ReplyDeleteI came after hearing on the capcom unity about how awesome this is, I imagine a lot of effort was put into this, and for that reason I'll be honest and say it sucks, now, don't take this as trolling or anything of the kind, because I'm only saying this for the game's improvement, but,
it looks like a sequel to megaman dos, the bosses have a terrible design strongly resemble those from megaman dos, so does the stage design, they don't match the game's themes, they don't match the series themes, they don't match the bonnes personalities, they just seem... random.. the bio man stage colors are bright, TOO bright, it's hard to know where to focus, the tarot man stage is kinda bad too, but it's because the enemies seem too tough and random.
I came for the plot which as the commenter said a lot of effort was put into, paying lots of attention to details and tying together the megaman and megaman legends timeline..
but when i came, i was a bit disappointed by the beginning of the video already, time travelling is NOT a way to tie together the story of two series, I expected something a bit more subtle, that would tie together the series directly from megaman's timeline, but suddenly BOOM Bonnes in the far past. if you wanted something like that it could be a 8bit megaman legends with megaman references..
and the cutscene is kinda random, a bit of overused megaman legends illustrations rendered in low res 2D basically, I expected more of the cutscene.
I'll stop now and say I hope you guys dont give up, but this is plain terrible.
please think it over and see for yourselves, tone down a bit the colors on bio man stage if you think it's a good idea to keep him, with another pallete, it could be a water stage, or lava. rethink tarot man's existance, as much as i like the card theme, he's a knight.
and the cutscenes, get some portraits/mugshots from misad. of tron bonne, and use those at least, it feels very cheap the way it is, and i'm sure it wasn't easy pixelizing that other img.
and if you want to make this looks like something on nes, keep in mind NES color restriction at all times, even megaman 9 and 10 did it.
and please, think of another plot :/
I like to see people actually working on something instead of just waiting for capcom
( which btw is all like " oh yeah soon we have a megaman announcement that will blow your mind, NOW STFU megaman fans!!!" for about a year now, i call it fake )
so you may take this as trolling or whatever but i'm trying to make a constructive critic, not just boo this is bad, i'm telling you WHY it sucks and what needs fixing.
well, i'm off, Rock on guys
@Dream-Crusher, Xander: See, the problem with your logic is that Rolina WASN'T bashing the game. She just said she had no interest in it because it was a classic Megaman game. I really don't see how you got "bashing" from that
ReplyDeleteWell, I appreciate all the effort Team Reaverbot is doing fro this game; but my main target to play a fan game is: Megaman x Corruption, wow that's gonna be a hell of a game and secondly the metroid 2 fan remake.
ReplyDelete@December 5, 2012 6:08 AM
ReplyDeleteRecall the part of my post when I say Rolina is bashing please. I said one of the TWO comments directed at... he/she/it (Rolina) wasn't even bashing like Zerker claims to be(the other one is, blatantly). Get it?
@Xander: the bashing part was directed to Dream-Crusher. I included you because you used "diss", which has a similar meaning (disrespect).
ReplyDeleteFun fact the main stream reception this fan game has gotten managed to get the creators of another work in progress fan game, Mega Man Time Tangent to throw a massive hissy fit and cancel their own game,
ReplyDeletehttp://mexicansunflower.deviantart.com/journal/The-future-of-Mega-Man-Time-Tangent-341518035
And people wonder why they say we're as bad as a fandom as Sonic's these days.
