The Blue Bomber's 25th anniversary is just ten days away. Ten days! So to get into the spirit of things, we're looking back at one of the largest celebrations in the franchise's history: the Rockman 20th anniversary event in Sunshine City, Tokyo.
On November 18th, 2007, Sunshine City's Bunkakan Convention Hall in Ikebukura played host to the event; one of the largest fan congregations in the franchise's history. Attendees took a trip through the history of Rockman, view exclusive production illustrations from the series, buy some paraphernalia, and sample the then-upcoming Ryuusei no Rockman 2. Below, you'll find a heaping ton of photos from the event. It's a pretty neat blast from the past, If I do say so myself.
It remains to be seen if Capcom will hold a similar event to honor the 25th anniversary. At the rate things have been going lately, it's highly doubtful. At the very least, I anticipate some small celebration. Maybe a live stream of birthday party at the Capcom U.S offices. I dunno.

SO much has changed in 5 years
ReplyDeleteCalling it now.
ReplyDeleteThere's gonna probably be some short, 30 minute podcast at midnight.
All it'll be is some mumbling of random topics, most of which won't even be Megaman related.
And on the Japan side, there won't even be a mentioning at all.
And then two days later, we'll get a new AlphaOmegaSin video.
I wish we had all that artwork hanging on those walls on the internet, or in a book.
ReplyDeletelittle late but they were all in megaman officail complete works which was made in 2009
DeleteOh look. It's Legends concept art I've never seen before. Huh.
ReplyDeleteNothing will happen and Sven will tell us to wait until some other arbitrary date to hear about anything.
ReplyDeleteNow THAT was a celebration for the ages! I hate to sound negative but with the way Capcom has been towards Mega Man these days, I'm not too hopeful for the 25th anniversary.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for the 25th Anniversary honestly. I feel as if Capcom is hiding something from us that would be pretty exciting.
ReplyDeleteAnd knowing capcom its gonna stay hidden because they're focusing on other things besides the blue bomber
DeleteWhat a wonderful event that all was back then. It's sad how much has changed in just five very short years. So sad...
ReplyDeleteThe most I expect is more mention about Xover and nothing else. But even then, it wouldn't surprise me if they don't even mention the title's name at all.
Man, this was just so freaking awesome... Now I'm sad again. :/
ReplyDeleteThe 25th anniversary of Mega Man is going to be the same as the Mayan apocalypse: everyone will be on the edge of their seat... and then nothing will happen.
ReplyDeleteAnyone noticing a certain Megaman not from ZX in the photo at the top of Protodude's post? Starts with a certain V...\
ReplyDeleteMakes you question if the event organizers or even Capcom remembered Volnutt for the event.
Oh wow, I remember this. Seems such a short time ago.
ReplyDeleteI don't mean to put a sour note to this, but I asked on another site about this 20th Anniversary party and what we had since then. Feel free to add what I've said:"A shoot’em up mobile phone(Megaman Rush Marine), a falling down version of Endless Stage (Rockman Diver), a Puzzler Fighter version of Megaman I(The Puzzle Battle), a rerun of Battle Network Season 1 with a crowbarred Star Force cameo (Operate Shooting Star), A spiritual successor to Powered Up(cancelled), an MMO RPG for Korea (likely cancelled), a fan dream come true (gone), & a flash game with an Axl knock-off."

ReplyDeleteRemember back on the 15th Anniversary and they had the cool little website where you could create your own Mega Man character despite having like 7 people to choose parts from? Those were good times!
ReplyDeleteI'm willing to give Capcom the benefit of the doubt this one last time, but if we don't get some seriously exciting news...
ReplyDeleteThey're on their very last life, in other words.
Fuck crapcom!
ReplyDeleteThe way Capcom is now, the most I hope for is a mention of the anniversary. It's really a shame, how much of a difference there is in just 5 years.
ReplyDeleteThe SF Mega Man and Zero in the images are scary.
ReplyDelete@ Ness 1985 - Real mature.
ReplyDeleteAlso it seems that the rabid fans who think the series is dead got here before me. And I agree with Toenail Man.
What a party! :D
ReplyDeleteAlthough I doubt it, it would be cool if Capcom did another party for the 25th anniversary. Inafking is gone, but there is still Eguchi, A.K., TOM-PON, Ishihara, and a LOT of other members. May as well invite Inti Creates staff, Rockman mangaka like Ariga, musicians like Reika and SOUND HOLIC, ...
PARTY HARD! XD
We can reach for the stars that this year's anniversary will be this good.
