Hey, you didn't forget about Team Revearbot's 25th anniversary fan-game, did you? The folks behind the game -- a plucky band of veteran industry developers -- sat down with Games Abyss for a
massive Q&A. Everything, and I mean everything you could possible want to know about the project is discussed. From motivations to playable character teases, no stone is left unturned. Oh yeah; there's also a bevy of screenshots to absorb, too.
Head over to

Don't care about Reaverbot. I'm tired of 8-bit fangames and wish we'd let Classic EVOLVE and send a sign to Capcom that we don't want nostalgia anymore. I also don't care since I feel part of the attention is because of the dev team.
ReplyDeleteThat is my say on this game and team.
Wow, how rude. I for one love this.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we should make games with the classic Megaman gameplay we all love, and use original, detailed graphics?
ReplyDeleteOh wait. That'd take a lot of work. Who has time for that? (Not Capcom.)
Seriously, though. Hasn't everyone wanted to make an 8-bit Megaman game at one point in their life?
"Part of the attention is because of the dev team"? I didn't (well, I still don't know anything about who they are) know anything still I find some parts of this game interesting, like Bioman level, story background, some pieces of OST etc.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's true that it's a little bit too much 8b MM games but what else can we do? We don't get games from Capcom and we're not great game developer to develop high-level free fan game from the beginning to the very end.
That's my opinion.
Love it. Keep the 8-bit classics coming!
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's fair to blame fans for not "letting Classic evolve." Fans aren't using the 8-bit aesthetic in their games for nostalgia purposes, they're doing it for ease of use purposes. Making art for your game is pretty freakin' hard work, and when you're making a game on your own or with only a very small team, there might not be anyone with the artistic skills (and time!) necessary to do something completely new or as difficult as 16-bit or better art.
ReplyDeleteWith the exception of the first anon, I agree with pretty much what everybody said here, especially Wilynumber13. We cannot honestly expect fans to make an out-of-this-world game with spectacular graphics. Unlike fucking Capcom, who has the team and the budget to produce anything like that? It is a lot easier to work with 8-bit graphics. I, for one, am glad that these fangames actually have some thought put into them, which is a lot more than what I can say about Capcom.
ReplyDelete@Cyberguy
Oh boy! If I had any knowledge on making computer games I would so make my own MM game! :D I'll leave the game-making to those who know what they are doing and just enjoy what they produce.
Thanks for the link to the interview. It's a real cool project that I'm looking forward to playing. And I agree with the general consensus here that 8-bit is totally fine. It's not the prettiest thing in the world, but anything more takes a ton of time that could be better spent actually designing the stages (or maintaining a real-life job and paying bills, which apparently some here don't have to do). Fan games are hobbies; why criticize that?
ReplyDelete@Anon 1: Instead of complaining of a fan game, why YOU don't make a 3D Mega Man game?
ReplyDeleteAnd Capcom was evolving with Mega Man Universe, Rockman Online and Mega Man Legends 3, but the top men didn't like it, saying they weren't 2D enough. :P
Well said, Anon1. Well said.
ReplyDeleteTruth be told, I really would be 100% fine with Mega Man games staying in the 8-bit era. It looks, sounds, and plays just the way I like it. :D
ReplyDelete@December 13, 2012 8:40 PM Anonymous: No, I have Megaman X Corrupted, Battle Network Chrono X, and, even though I'm not too big of a fan of it, Tuttle's Legendary Travels to look forward to. All non-8bit, various styles graphically, and all looking for nicely. Because you know what? I can wait for my damn fangame, I can accept the fact their lives come firs, and I can accept the fact it may take a while. It's why I haven't lost faith in X Corrupted nor Chrono X(I'm in a not sure for TLT, since they are still relatively new). Because I can accept that and I have faith in them.
ReplyDeleteAm I asking for High end PC graphics? No. Am I asking for 3D graphics? NO. All I ask is to move beyond 8-bit if its nothing new(For example, 8BDM does 8bit but its also in a 3D environment based off of the old stages, thus I give it an exception). Is it too much to ask for a fan game in 32 bit like Megaman 8 or even 16 bit like 7 and &Bass?
Also, Rockman Online WASN'T CAPCOM. How many times do people have to beat it over people's heads!?
And God Man... Designs and sprites are intertwined. A sprite can only be as good as the original design. Many fangames, and even the big companies, for anything always have a designer draw up stage and character designs so that the spriters and graphic designers have something to go off of. Skipping that key step often leads to bad designs.

ReplyDeleteI've known fAB and Blyka from TLT for the better part of the last seven or so years and can vouch for them, even though I don't blame you for having doubts. They have a very high success rate as far as their fangames go. You can find their previous work on Sky Pirate Arcade. (arcade.legends-station.com)
If TLT isn't your thing but you're still looking for good Legends fangames, there are a bunch of other, very differnt games featuring other Legends characters by fAB and Blyka over there. None of them have the Classic Mega Man 8-bit style aside from an unfinished outside submission. A lot of people like Mega Man Digger, which actually stars Volnutt.
As for this game, I'll probably check it out just for the Bonnes. When I was a kid I thought Mega Man X4 was based off of Legends and the significant bosses were all expies of Legends characters. I was a pretty dumb kid. If I were still twelve I'd be bouncing off the walls over this.
