Another month, a new solicitation. Here's the latest scoop for Archie's Mega Man #23:
(W) Ian Flynn (A) Gary Martin & Various (CA) Matt Herms & Various
‘For the Bot Who Has Everything.’ Happy Birthday, Mega Man! The city celebrates their hero in style and Rock receives the recognition he deserves! What could ruin such a perfect day? How about a vengeful Dr. Wily and the mysterious Break Man?! Don’t miss this issue on the eve of the Sonic/Mega Man crossover!”
I got to say, I'm really digging that cover. Did you know it was originally conceptualized by Patrick Spaziante to be used for issue #8? Glad to see it being put to good use!
Issue #23 is due out in March, 2013.

"What could ruin such a perfect day?" Capcom could, of course :)
ReplyDeleteRock and Breakman finally meet in-comic, eh?
ReplyDelete(Also, correction: this is #23, not 24.)
I wonder if they're not going to pull something sneaky with Break man. It's going to be obvious that he's really Protoman, so maybe they'll make a new character to throw us off.
ReplyDeleteDr. Wily's double chin has never been more square until now, it seems...
ReplyDelete(@Cyberguy) Have you not read recent issues? Blues is Break Man. It's not supposed to be a mystery to the readers.
ReplyDeleteFinally! Things are gonna get rolling again after filler issues. XD Time for the crossover baby! XD
ReplyDeleteIf "Worlds Collide" is going to be a 12-part event, I hope it will be more substantial than the regular esoteric game references and "smashing action figures together" conflicts we've come to expect from Ian Flynn.
ReplyDeleteI know Archie likes to play it cheap, but they could stand to hire an accredited writer or two, just to make their comics worth reading.
I don't know...but does this mean MM3 arc's finally coming out?
ReplyDeleteNo I haven't. I haven't had access to them. Oh well, I should save the WMGing for TVtropes.

ReplyDeleteNo since the Sonic crossover is immediately after that issue and lasts for four months.
Won't happen until mid 2013 at the earliest.
'based on the hit video game series'
ReplyDeleteGah. Wish that was a sticker you can peel off, detracts from the art!
@Prof. Megaman:
ReplyDeleteI could not disagree more, and I'm honestly baffled by such a statement.
The Archie Mega Man series accomplishes something that very few have been able to do with the franchise: maintain the fun and colorful kid-friendly atmosphere while drawing in both veteran readers (with its clever game allusions) as well as newbie audiences, all while delivering deep, intellectual topics.
Where before have we seen Rock go through such moral dilemmas at the idea of being a "robot-killer"? Or a storyline revolving around a TERRORIST group bent on ridding the world of all robotkind, and the morality that surrounds it? And we've never seen, in any medium, an explanation to why Proto Man is as aloof and enigmatic as he is... Until Flynn delivered it.
You have to remember that Mega Man is ultimately a kids' series, and the Archie comic book format is, in a word, compressed. To be able to accomplish that much in such a small space and in only 19 issues (to date) is breath-taking.
If you don't agree, I don't believe Archie or Flynn are at fault. But rather... it's more that you just don't care for this particular medium, and there's nothing wrong with that. But I believe Flynn and the entire Archie team is one of the best things to happen to Classic Mega Man in recent years.
Agreeing with Steven Chase here, especially on the moral views the comic series has taken.
ReplyDeleteIncredibly similar to Astro Boy's content in that way, but regardless, it's still good that the classic MM franchise is being portrayed in this light. I do tend to get bored and tired of the typical fan interpretion of Mega Man being a 'ruthless robot killer without remorse'. I've always imagined Mega Man having conflicts over what he does, so it's nice to see that I'm not the only one.
