Solicitation for Archie’s Mega Man #21 Now Available
New covers and solicitations have arrived for the 21st issue of Archie's Mega Man comic book series. Slated to hit newsstands in January, this issue is all about the coming New Year. Read all about it:
(Writer) Ian Flynn (Art) Gary Martin & Various (Main Cover) Chad Thomas, Matt Herms & Various (Variant Cover) Alice Meichi Li
"‘Countdown.’ It’s almost New Year’s Day, and Mega Man is ready to celebrate in style! Rock, Roll, and Dr. Light are among the crowd waiting to watch the ceremonial light-ball drop at midnight, but the celebration is short-lived as the Emerald Spears return to exact their revenge on our heroes! The epic grudge match between Mega Man and Xander Payne begins now, so grab a front row seat and prepare for the battle royale!"
Thank to Mega Man Monthly for the tip!
Who the hell is that green guy? o__O
ReplyDeleteHe doesn't fit at all.
That "remake" on the first cover is kind of pretty bad too =/
@Anon 1: The green guy is Xander. They mention him in the solicitation.

ReplyDeleteTheir original robot hating terrorist villain from the last story arc.
Something tells me that we're still ain't gonna have a MM3 arc yet...oh well, at least I'm enjoying the comic anyways, no complaints!

ReplyDeleteWith the Sonic crossover taking up a good chunk of next year (Issues 24-28) and this being Issue 21 they probably wrote themselves into a corner where they couldn't reasonably do the MM3 arc before the crossover.
Especially seeing how it's combining parts of Super Adventure Rockman into it.
We'll probably get it after the Sonic crossover in mid 2013.
You know, the more I think about it, the more angry I get. While it's nice that this comic series is apparently still popular enough to warrant comic after comic after comic... it would've been nice if this had been created back when, you know, Mega Man was still a "hit video game series," as the 'splodie claims on pretty much every cover.
ReplyDeleteAm I being petty?
@Joeseph Collins
ReplyDeleteNo, you're not. In fact, I think Archie might be the only thing keeping Rock afloat, story-wise, these days.
It's sad. Maybe the next Megaman game will have to say, "Based on the hit Comic-book series!"
@Joseph Collins
ReplyDeleteThen it would have been written by Ken Penders and trust me on this one you do NOT want that.
Xander's doing the megaman jump pose!!!
ReplyDeleteHe also looks like BBA megaman with that gun!!!
@September 22, 2012 11:04 PM: The inevitable soap opera antics and redundant, clunky dialogue would make it not worth it, but I do have to wonder what Penders would do if asked to write an MM story. Would his run last long enough for him to introduce a blatant expy of the Archie-Echidnas?
ReplyDeleteThey really have difficulty writing conflicts involving robot masters as antagonists.
ReplyDeleteIt almost renews my respect for the RS Mega Man cartoon. Sure it was laughably campy, but at least I cared about the characters involved.
I really like 21's cover. Definitely the best so far.
ReplyDeleteBut I can't say that I like 20's cover. It's like a blatant trace or redraw of PS1's MM2's promotional artwork.
@RADIX
ReplyDeleteIn all likelihood yes since the echinda's in the Sonic comics where just added as a way for him to tell his original story called "The Lost Ones" which he could never get anyone to sign on with he picked the character with no back story at the time and used it to insert his story into Sonic.
I guarantee he'd had done the same thing in Mega Man if he had it back then instead of Sonic, although what he would have done it with is anyones guess.
@Professor Mega Man
I think the fundamental underlying issue is the writer doesn't see Robot Master's as characters he sees them as cannon fodder to shout their obligatory memetic one liner or fandom joke and be done with.
...Okay shoot, I got mixed up there. Let me just correct myself and say that I dislike the green variant cover for reasons already stated, and like the blue one.
ReplyDeleteI'm late to replying because I am out of town and just managed to get an internet connection, but I just wanted to say something to those who are complaining. Be very thankful Ken Penders is not doing the writing! God, he ruined the Sonic comic for me and I am afraid not even Ian's writing can persuade me to go back, though I hear it has improved. Anyways...
ReplyDeleteI am looking foward to this story. The art on the second cover looks badass!
Just because it could be worse, doesn't mean it's good :P
