Check Out the Fan-Made "Mega Man 11" Soundtrack

In case the post title didn't make it clear, this is fan-made. Fan-made. Yes Mega Man 11 doesn't exist, but hey, a guy can dream, right?

To honor the Blue Bomber's upcoming 25th anniversary, professional video game composer Xavier "mv" Dang created an entire chiptune soundtrack for a fake "Mega Man 11." Right now, you can tune in to a listening party on his TwitchTV channel. Shortly afterwards, he'll release the album on his Bandcamp page for free download!

All in all, the OST is a true labor of love. If you've got an ear for chiptune music, check it out!

KodyKoala's Battle Damaged Proto Man

Donald "KodyKoala" Kennedy has worked his magic once again. Hot off the heels of his battle damaged Mega Man figure, his latest creation focuses on a similarly battered and bruised take on the Blue Bomber's brother, Proto Man.

"Here is another commission that I did. I wanted to focus on Protoman’s shield for this one, and I like how the face turned out with the eyeball behind the glasses," writes KodyKoala. "This took me about 15 hours to complete and I used a vinyl Protoman and random robot parts and wires."

You can check out more pictures of this gruesomely awesome piece on KodyKoala's Flickr gallery here.

New “We are ROCK-MEN!" Album Planned

Well, it looks like another new Rockman arrange album is headed our way. Amazon Japan has listed “We are ROCK-MEN! 2", attached to a December 19th release for 2,100 Yen (about $27.00 US).

For now, no other details about this new album exist. We can, however, assume the same crew will be back with another helping of delicious arrangements. The original “We are ROCK-MEN! album was headed up by Capcom Japan's own in-house sound team, which featured a number of arranged tracks from the Classic, X and Legends series.

Stay tuned for more details! Source: The Mega Man Network

In Case There Was Any Doubt, Xover is Still Headed Stateside

In spite of a decidedly negative reception to the game's Tokyo Game Show debut, Rockman Xover is still planned to hit North America. Over at Ask Capcom, Christian "Sven" Svensson denied speculation the game would no longer be localized simply because of criticism:

"We continue to send feedback to the mobile teams in Japan. As it stands now, to answer the OP's question, it is still coming Westward at some point."

That first sentence is interesting. Could feedback (i.e. complaints) dictate the direction the game takes from here on out? Hard to say, really. If Capcom wants it out before year's end, I doubt we'll see any major modifications. Some polish, maybe, but nothing earth-shatteringly different.

In any case, I find it a reassuring they've got their antennas out. And hey, we aren't the only ones feeling a little uncomfortable about Xover; Sven also holds some concerns too.

We'll just have to wait and see what happens I guess.

Rockman & Forte WS Robot Masters Recreated in NES Style

Rockman & Forte: Challenger from the Future, a Rockman game licensed by Bandai for the WonderSwan portable system, is perhaps best known for its wonky Robot Master cast. There's Aircon Man (an air conditioner), Konro Man (a portable stove) and Dangan Man (a freaking bullet), among others. And you thought Sheep Man was weird? Puh-lease.

Because no one really does anything with these guys, Tarbo thought it might be fun to recreate each Robot Master in 8-bit. The above video comes from Tarbo's work-in-progress "Roll-chan" fan-game, which shows off what it might be like to fight those weirdos in an NES-style Mega Man game. Impressive stuff, to say the least.

Like what you see? You'll find more Roll-Chan gameplay at Tarbo's YouTube channel here.

Harada Wants to Localize Project X Zone

Tekken producer and all-round cool guy Katsuhiro Harada is championing Namco Bandai to localize Project X Zone, the 3DS strategy-RPG that pits numerous characters from Namco Bandai, Capcom, and Sega games into battle.

When asked about the game over Twitter, Harada replied, "I proposed localization of Project X Zone." He quickly followed that statement up with "Not decided yet, but It will be realized if I continue proposing."

By no means does this confirm PXZ will be localized. However, it's reassuring to learn that someone with such a large influence at Bandai Namco is fighting for the good fight. Let's hope for the best!

Destructoid Previews Rockman Xover

Our buddies over at Destructoid have just gotten their hands on the Tokyo Game Show Rockman Xover demo, and Conrad Zimmerman has posted some impressions. You'll find a portion of his thoughts below.

"Is it [Xover] thrilling? Well, no. The demo was such that I couldn't possibly screw it up. Enemies dealt no damage during the running section and it was mathematically impossible for Storm Eagle to deal enough damage to OVER-1 to destroy him. The combat is, at least insofar as the demo would show, very shallow. There was no blocking, no dodging, nothing really to do at all.

So, why am I not enraged with the fire of a thousand suns? There are two reasons. First, it's a mobile game. I'm not saying we should make excuses for phone games being crappy, but this is a representation of traditional Mega Man gameplay and I think using autorun and turn-based mechanics to represent that on a platform otherwise not conducive to the demands of the traditional design is a novel way to do so."

Though Zimmerman shares a more optimistic outlook, the game is not entirely without its faults. Head on over to Destructoid and read the complete preview!

Fan-Made Metall Plush is Exceedingly Adorable

Having spent so many years killing them, it's safe to say this is the first time I've ever wanted to hug a Metall. This super snuggable 13-inch plush Met is the product of Capcom Unity member Blues1990 and his good friend Clearkid. Exceedingly adorable, no? I mean just look at those big 'ol eyes! One gaze is enough to warm your heart.

He's not for sale, unfortunately. But you can admire a whole gallery's worth of photos at Capcom Unity. Be wary, my friends: the cuteness factor may overwhelm you!

Xover Trailer Theme Gets the 8-Bit Treatment

COCOROG's Tarbo-san has whipped up a cool 8-bit style remix of the music from the Rockman Xover Tokyo Game Show trailer. Have a listen; it's quite snazzy.

Overall, I really like the sound of this tune. I just hope the rest of the game's soundtrack is new material. Fingers crossed!

Rockman Xover Hands-On Impressions

No, I'm not at the Tokyo Game Show. But Rockman Corner contributor Andreas Asimakis is and he had the chance to take Rockman Xover for a testdrive. How does the game stack up to all the controversy? Well, I'll say this: Andreas doesn't sugar coat it. Read on for a portion of his review (brace yourself for some Not So Safe For Work language).

Rockman Xover Tokyo Game Show Trailer (Updated)

I'll try reserve judgment until I play the game... but yeah, I'm not really feeling it. The music was pretty nice, though.

So, what do we have here? Well, the trailer showed off some new stuff we haven't seen before. At 0:34, you can catch a glimpse of OVER-1's different forms. These forms -- each equipped with a significant attribute like a pair of claws and a big shield -- are implied to be concurrent with the game's customization system.  A Battle Memory card pops up at 0:40 and no less than a second later, you'll see the Battle Memory customization screen (at least that's what it looks like). Notice any familiar faces? I sure do.

That's all that can be said for now. More Xover details are bound to surface as the Tokyo Game Show continues to heat up.

UPDATE: We've got some additional details from the playable demo. Hit the jump below for the lowdown.

X and Zero Take on Firebrand in New Project X Zone Gameplay

Rockman 3 Headed to Japanese eShop

The title pretty much says it all, really. According to Nintendo Japan, Rockman 3 is slated to hit the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console next week, September 26th for 500 Yen.

No word yet on the possibility of a North American/European release... then again, we're still waiting for Mega Man 1 and Mega Man 2. One of these days, man. One of these days.

Iris Confirmed for Project X Zone (Updated)

Well, this was unexpected. Just when you thought Project X Zone had enough Mega Man reps, the latest issue of Famitsu brings word that Mega Man X4's Iris will join the game's already huge cast of characters. New characters confirmed in Famitsu also include Aura from the .hack series and Astaroth from Ghost ‘n Goblins.

UPDATE: Translated details reveal Iris (voiced by Yuko Mizutani) will show up as an event character, recognized by X as “the girl from that Repliforce incident.” That tidbit seems to suggest the events of PXZ take place sometime after X4. Question is, how is Iris alive? [via The Mega Man Network]

16 Minutes Worth of Project X Zone Goodness

It's the longest trailer yet and it's got some great footage of X, Zero, Tron Bonne and Vile in action. Check it out below (good stuff at 4:44)!

Project X Zone is due for release in Japan on October 11th. Still no word yet for any release in the west, but we can hope.

Official Mega Man Plush Redated

As one might recall, GE Animation pulled the official Mega Man plush from its previously-planned April 30th release for reasons unknown. Being one of the more anticipated products from GE's Mega Man line, some folks took this as a sign it wasn't coming out at all.

Fortunately, that is not the case: AAA Distribution has revealed that the plush is now poised to be released on November 30 for $13.99. Retailers interesting in stocking the plush can preorder it directly from GE Animation. or AAA Distribution. So yeah, expect to see this little guy on store shelves in December.

If that wasn't enough, I bring even more good news: I've learned GE Animation are exploring the possibility of more Mega Man plush characters! They are still working on approval and licensing, but it seems the success of the Blue Bomber plush could help pave the way for more soft and cuddly characters.

Anyone in particular you'd like to see? Try to limit your wishlist to Classic series characters only, please.

Don't Count On a New Game for the 25th Anniversary

Rockman Corner reader Joshua sent over this interesting 25th anniversary comment from Capcom's corporate officer Christian Svensson. Check it out:

"In December 'some but not all' plans for the coming year of celebrations will be shared. There are many moving parts and not everything will be done and final come December. No one has promised a game or even an announcement of one at that time. Please do keep expectations in check." [source]

The only thing it seems we can be certain of is that Capcom will be doing something (i.e. "celebrations") involving Mega Man, at the very least. I get the feeling that after the widespread meltdown of Mega Man Legends 3 and Mega Man Universe, Capcom won't be discussing the prospect of a new game until all the pieces are in place. The last thing we need is to have something announced prematurely and witness yet another cancellation because the project wasn't good and ready.

All we can do is simply wait and hope. And that's all that can be said for now, really.

Thanks for the tip Joshua!

So, How About Rockman Xover on Android?

So yeah, Rockman Xover. It's a social RPG coming to iOS later this year. That's all well and good, but what about Android users? Will they get in on the social Blue Bomber action, too?

"I'm not aware of it coming to any other OSes at this time, however me not being aware of it doesn't mean it's not (I'm a bit out of the loop on the latest mobile happenings)," replied Christan Svensson when asked about the possibility of an Android version.

"We've not yet provided any major details of this game's Western release plan yet (other than the fact it's coming Westward) and I'd imagine at some point we'll be able to provide more visibility when we've got all of the necessary information."

Rockman Xover is expected to make its first public appearance at the Tokyo Game Show coming up next week. Stay tuned for the inevitable information overload!

She's Still Got It! Kinuyo Yamashita Plays Blizzard Buffalo on Piano

The ever-talented Kinuyo Yamashita (Mega Man X3, Castlevania) has taken to YouTube to perform a piano arrangement of her famous Blizzard Buffalo theme (with Theme of Zero effortlessly sown in to sweeten the deal). It's pretty darn amazing, to say the least.

I've spoken with Yamashita on more than one occasion in the past. If you like what you hear, maybe I could ask if she's up for more X3 piano stuff. Yay or nay? My vote is yay.

Do Facebook Likes Translate to Actual Software Sales?

Because this is mostly directed at the Facebook-based Get Me Off the Moon campaign (aka 100,000 Strong for Mega Man Legends 3), I though this was worth sharing.  On Ask Capcom, user Metal asked if there's any correlation between a game's Facebook "likes" and prospectful sales. Corporate Officer Christian Svensson stepped in to provide some insight:

"In my opinion, they can be an indicator of interest (one of many... presales being a much better indicator). I think it's fair to say that a low number of likes or Twitter followers or G+ circles would indicate not a lot of interest in said title. Now, does a high number of any/all of the above mean sales success is assured? Is there a way to broadly correlate Facebook likes to sales revenue? Absolutely not.

There's still a sizable gap between the investment required by someone to click "a thumbs up" than to reach in their wallet and buy a product.

The indicators aren't without value, but it's a temperature read. Nothing more, nothing less."

In other words, likes are not the de facto indicator. There's some value in them, but they don't translate to software sales. Variables like pre-order data tell Capcom that there is a stronger correlation between sales and profit. Facebook likes, Twitter followers, and Google+ Circles cannot be held in the same regard.

By no means does this belittle the efforts of Get Me Off the Moon. The likes generated by the campaign has, at the very least, vocalized an interest in the product... more so than initially perceived by those original Devroom numbers. So long as the group continues to grow and pump out products of support (i.e., the tribute album, the model rocket and so on), I think Capcom will continue to be mindful that there are people out there who want to see this thing realized.

Chad Thomas Posts Mega Man #17 Pencil Art

Just a quick note of interest for you Archie Mega Man fans out there: Chad Thomas has posted the original rough pencils sketches for Mega Man #17 on his blog. The images provide a nice clean look at the issue's development, completely devoid of text and color. If you're the artsy type, you could even throw them into Photoshop and add some pazzaz of your own!

Morishita’s Arranged Legends Themes Are on Sale (Updated)

Okay, I’m jumping the proverbial September 12th gun a little bit, but it's technically the 12th in the East. That's right, Reika Morishita's newly arranged “another sun” and “Your Wind Is Blowing” themes are now on sale in Japan. Digital retailers outside of Japan should have both themes online when it's the 12th in your neck of the woods. UPDATE: They're now available on Amazon UK!

For those of us in the states, the tracks will be available on Amazon’s download store tomorrow for $0.99 each. iTunes is going to be an option too, but there's no sign of them just yet. I'll keep you posted on that front. UPDATE 2: Aaaaand they're now on iTunes!

And for those interested, here's a thank you video from Morishita. She encourages everyone to grab the songs and, should digital sales prove satisfactory, we can look forward to a disc release in the future. Oh boy!

These new arrangements have been in the works over a half a year. Please pick up the tracks and support Morishita's hard work! And if you happen to listen to them, feel free to leave some feedback!

Sample Rockman Online's Music (Updated)

As soon as word hit that Rockman Online might be cancelled, I immediately began hoarding whatever assets I could find. In my scramble, I stumbled upon the above footage of Studio Doma recording a track from the game. This piece sort of sounds like it went along with Online's planned pyramid stage. It's quite tranquil, don't you think? Hard to believe this one slipped right underneath our radar!

And then there's this piece by Seunghyuk Yang dubbed "Interface." I imagine this went along with the game's menu screens or something of that sort. It's very Matrix-y.

Also gone unnoticed, Studio Doma's Rockman Online portfolio. The page looks like it once hosted six soundtrack samples. UPDATE: Courtesy of Gauntlet101010 of The Mechanical Maniacs, here's a playlist of all six tracks. They're VERY short, but better than nothing:

25th Anniversary Rockcan Preorder Bonus Art Revealed

The above art is part of a special promotion for the Rockcan soundtrack set, which is due for release on September 19th. Apparently, if you preorder the collection directly from e-Capcom, you'll be entered in a raffle to win one of the four exclusives illustrations drawn (and autographed) by members of the Capcom design team.

Problem is you can't preorder the set from e-Capcom if you live outside Japan. No exclusive art for you, in other words. Maybe if you're real lucky you'll find them up on the auction block later. Who knows.

New Rockman Online Artwork Emerges (Update: Game is Likely Cancelled)

Concept artist Kang Dong Hwa recently posted some previously unseen Rockman Online artwork to his personal webpage. He's provided new pieces for Gaia, the floating fortress Atlas, and some areas we haven't seen before. I've included these images after the break.

Given the rather slow updates with the game this past year, you have to wonder why these pieces showed up at Mr. Kang's place instead of the game's official site.

UPDATE: According to the artist himself, Rockman Online is probably cancelled. See, the only reason he's able to post this art publicly is because the project has been dropped. I had a feeling that was the case.

However, pending an official announcement from NeoWiz we can't officially confirm Online's demise just yet. Still, it's very much possible. And honestly, is anyone really surprised? It's been nearly a whole year since there's been an update on the game. Further, it was reported in May that NeoWiz was undergoing a company-wide downsizing due to fledging business. Online's fate was pretty much sealed.

UPDATE 2: Mr. Kang removed the post that implied the game was dropped. This could mean a number of things, but I'm inclined to believe he jumped the gun before NeoWiz made the news official. We'll just have to wait and see.

Check Out the Commercial for Jollibee’s Mega Man Toys

Though Jollibee's Mega Man kid's meal promotion is long over, you still might enjoy this brief commercial for the toys. Have a look:

For those not in the know, Jollibee -- a chain of fast-food establishments native to the Philippines -- ran a Mega Man promotion back in late 2011. There were two "Mega Man Power Fighters" toys collect: the Blue Bomber himself and Proto Man. I've got to admit, for kid's meal toys, they're actually pretty cool (and well built, from what I'm told).

Now, if you've got a pair lying around... uh, could you send them my way?

Preorder Your D-Arts Mega Man Figure

No less than a week after its confirmation, D-Arts classic Mega Man is now available for preorder. Time to rev up those wallets!

Right now, Big Bad Toy Store is offering the whole set -- Mega Man, Rush and Metall -- at $42.99, though they will not ship until January. It comes with everything the Japanese set has, the only difference being a "Mega Man" sticker meticulously placed over the "Rockman" logo. No, really.

Now, If you really want the Japanese set you're going to have to wait juuuuust a bit. The usual places like HobbyLink Japan, Hobby Search, and AmiAmi are completely sold out. No more preorders for the time being. These folks should replenish stock eventually, but who knows when.

BBTS' supply isn't unlimited either, so get a jump on the opportunity while you still can!

Rockman Xover Headed to the Tokyo Game Show

Despite this week's Famitsu report, we still don't know all that much about Rockman Xover. However, more details should come to light as the game is scheduled to go playable at the Tokyo Game Show on September 20.

The good word comes directly from Capcom's Tokyo Game Show special site which lists Rockman Xover as one of the many games set to appear on the showroom floor. What's more, those who visit the "mobile corner" will get a mobile screen cleaner set that includes an OVER-1 cleaner.

If you drop by TGS, by all means send along your impressions of the game. I think we're all very interested to hear how this one plays.

Mega Man Characters to Appear in "Capcom All Stars"

Capcom Japan today announced Capcom All Stars, a social game set for release on GREE. Details are very slim at the moment, but according to a press release, well-known characters from the Mega Man series (and other Capcom franchises) will appear. Actually, the Blue Bomber can be seen in the image above right behind Morrigan. He's so tiny!

What kind of game is All Stars, anyway? No clue. Capcom didn't talk about a genre, but wouldn't it be neat if this was some sort of all-Capcom fighter? Social-gaming aspects aside, that's something a lot of us have been looking forward to. Myself included!

But we do know this: All Stars is one of six games headed to GREE by year's end. For now, the game is exclusive to the Japanese market. However, two of the six games announced were apparently shown at this year's E3. So yeah, you never now.

For more details, check out Andriasang's original report here.

Thanks for the tip, Tim!

Minor New Details on Rockman Xover (Updated)

UPDATE: Full scan added above. There's a couple new screens in there, too. Thanks for the contribution, Reploid21XX!

Tarbo-san of COCOROG has gotten a hold of a couple new details for Rockman Xover, the upcoming social RPG for iOS. It's not terribly earth shattering, but interesting nonetheless.

Firstly, the protagonist's name is OVER-1. It's pronounced "over one."

Why "OVER-1" and not something a bit more fancy like "Rockman Xover"? Well, it's like a serial number; he's a mass production model. A personal name may serve little use to OVER-1, although I wonder if the game will let the you rename him to you liking. We're talking about an RPG, after all.

Second bit of info: players will use "Battle Chips" to customize their very own OVER-1. These chips have no connection to Mega Man Battle Network, mind you. It's assumed this is another name for the "Battle Memory" property mentioned over on the game's official site.

UPDATE 2: The full scan is now available and with it comes even more details:
  • Game is free-to-play, however you'll be charged for some in-game items.
  • The game's stages are called quests.
  • You can summon your friend's own unique OVER-1 characters into battle, seen below.

Further, you'll find a big piece of OVER-1 artwork at Famitsu App. It's the same one in the scan but, well, bigger.

And that's all for now, really. I'll let you know if anything else pops up.

Don't Expect a Bad Box Art Mega Man Game Anytime Soon

Capcom’s Senior Vice-President of Planning and Business Development, Christian Svensson, has publicly commented on one question that has been on the minds of some Blue Bomber fans: "will Bad Box Art Mega Man ever get his own game?"

"I think fans would riot if we did," he responded. "Like literally storming of our office and knocking over magazine racks left and right. It's probably not the best idea... at least, not until we fix some things with fans which is going to take a while."

Had everything gone according to plan—like, no game cancellations whatsoever—I think I would have been pretty content with a BBAMM game. But I completely agree with Sven; we've got to get the real, true blue Mega Man back on his feet before something like this is even considered.

A penny for your thoughts: would you like to see the old guy get his own game eventually?

Bluefin Details D-Arts Mega Man Accessories

Coming from the official Facebook page of Bluefin Tamashii Nations USA...
"In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the original Japan game release, Tamashii Nations is proud to announce the long awaited and highly requested release of classic Megaman into the ranks of the advanced D-Arts high-articulation action figure series. Fan feedback was critical in the design of this set, which features Met and Rush figures! Superior articulation allows for recreating a variety of action poses.
Also included in set is an extensive array of accessory parts such as shot effect parts, as well as two interchangeable face parts, additional right arm Mega Buster parts and Mega Buster barrel opening part, interchangeable right arm, and interchangeable left/right hand parts."

All in all, it's mostly the same tried and true stuff that's been packed with previous D-Arts figures. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Plus, it's good to have further confirmation of Rush and Met.

I'll keep you posted with more details as they come.

Sample Reika Morishita's Arranged Legends Themes

As previously reported, the songs will officially come out next week, September 12th. The songs will debut on iTunes (available worldwide) and Amazon Japan. Morishita has expressed an interest in doing a CD release of the singles; however, she's going to need a lot of support from you guys. If that's something you want see, raise your voice over at 100,000 Strong for Mega Man Legends 3.

Amazing "Rockman 123" Tribute Art is Amazing

There's something so visually tantalizing about these pieces from Pixiv artist Taru Souga that I just had to post them here. The effortless convergence of bold lines, high shadows and limited colors make these pieces a true feast for the eyes. You could say the whole style is reminiscent of Atsushi Nishigori's handiwork in Gurren Lagann. Oh, and be sure to hit the jump for Souga's Rockman 3 piece. It's the best of the lot, IMO.

I don't know about you, but I'd love to see Souga tackle the remaining Classic series games. I've got to get this stuff on a poster or something!

This Tron and Teisel Bonne Cosplay is the Stuff of Legends

I don't typically feature cosplay here at the old Corner, unless it's something truly unique and out of the ordinary. And while Bonne family-inspired cosplay is pretty common, this tribute was different enough to push me into posting them here.

As you can see, LividDoll and Realdaguru are looking quite snazzy as Tron and Teisel Bonne in their Mega Man Legends 2 Sulphur-Bottom disguises. Sure, Tron's missing the glasses but the whole kit and caboodle is spot-on otherwise. And Teisel? Perfect expression.

If you dig this, be sure to check out LividDoll's DeviantArt. She has a lot of other really great cosplay (and plenty of Tron) in her gallery.

The Mega Man Marathon is Live

This report is a little late, but in case you haven't heard, MX3 Team's Mega Man marathon for Child's Play is happening right now. Tune in and donate some cash if you're feeling generous. The goal is to raise $2,000, so every penny counts.

Good luck, MX3!
