Some Tiny 25th Anniversary Chatter
We're on pins and needles just waiting for some Mega Man 25th anniversary news to hit. Pins, needles and spikes. However, to make the waiting game a bit more bearable, I've got a few tidbits of interest I'd thought I'd share. You know, to keep your appetites whet.
The first two tidbits come from my own little pool of sources. Let's call it the grapevine. Word has it we're going to hear (at the very least) Capcom USA's solidified 25th anniversary plans from anywhere between late July to mid-August. What kind of plans? I'm just as much in the dark as you are, I'm afraid. What I do know is there's a number of things being worked on that will spill over into 2013, including some community-driven activities.
Secondly, I've no word on commemorative games. That's something everyone and their mother wants to see, but I've heard nothing on that front. That's not necessarily a bad thing... not in the least. It means Capcom are playing those cards close to their chest.
That's all from the grapevine at the moment. Now for something a bit more official: you're last tidbit of interest comes from Capcom USA's own Brelston.
Following the unveiling of Street Fighter's godly 25th anniversary package earlier today, Brelston took to Twitter to assure the masses that things are moving forward with Mega's own 25th:
"@Brelston Regarding Mega Man 25, that info is also coming, but later, as that's not until December. SF is the focus right now - tournament in July!"
"@Brelston We've already begun discussing the NA plans for Mega Man 25. There are things in motion. No deets yet, but I am in the room and helping :) "
All in all, Capcom are not neglecting the anniversary -- they're in the midst of putting things together. There's always the possibility plans could change along the way, so don't flip out if the summer comes and goes with nothing to show.
All in good time, my friends. Let's just hope these plans will be worth the wait.

bring it on!
ReplyDeleteMega Mix game please. Or a Legends HD collection. Or Legends 3 itself. Or MMX9/MHX2. Or a Megamix anime/Archie Mega Man Cartoon adaptation. Or the ultimate collection of Classic Mega Man games, all in HD.
ReplyDeleteAny would suffice.
Btw, it's my birthday, so do it Capcom! XD
i cant wait anymore...
ReplyDelete*Prepared to be underwhelmed*
ReplyDeleteMega Man Soccer 2....get ready
ReplyDeleteAny one called for- MegaMan X7 HD?
ReplyDeleteOf course Street Fighter comes first. It always f-ing comes first.
ReplyDeleteThey'll announce a compilation of a bunch of old games.
ReplyDeleteThen cancel it in a week after a lack of fan interest.
A box like the Street Fighter one will be good, just the same stuff but with MM9 and 10 on disc, and all the classic games too, for PS3 they already have most of the complete works versions emulated.
ReplyDeleteDoes it involve cancelling future Megaman games due to lack of vaguely laid out criteria?
ReplyDeleteGuys, guys have faith in Capcom.Did they ever dissapoint their fans?
ReplyDeleteYou know what I'd like to see? Mega Man 9/10 on the PC. There's absolutely no reason I can think of why Capcom shouldn't or couldn't do this and I'm sure it would make quite a few people happy.
ReplyDeleteYes, my expectations are that low.
@Anon4
... I would actually be very interested in that. I really would.
To the people complaining about SF's anniversary, be quiet. It's also their 25th anniversary, and the 25th is still a milestone. And besides, MM's anniversary isn't until December. Things come first for a reason.
ReplyDeleteMoving on. I'm not really going to be sitting on the edge of this and hope for anything. I'm just going to patiently wait and see what happens.
I find it kinda sad that Capcom US seems to love Mega Man and care about him more than CoJ, Mega Man's birth place.
ReplyDeleteOr at least hold him higher on their priorities list.
Probably because most of the current CoA grew up with Mega Man much like the rest of us.
"Community-driven activities"
ReplyDeleteWe tried that before. All we got a a cup full of "Fuck You, Fans", and a cancelled game.
I'm calling it now. Megaman 25th Anniversary cancelled due to lack of interest.
So this is basically confirmation that they lied about anything happening this year. If the info is coming in December, that means any kind of 25th anniversary stuff will happen in early 2013.
ReplyDeleteAnd McWhalen, do I even have to mention Legends 3? That was a pretty big disappointment right there.
Oh please, Capcom's NOT gonna celebrate our favorite blue bomber's 25th birthday. They're just gonna throw it into the toilet like their stinkin' crap. I've gotta say and you all should agree with me...NEVER EXPECT ANYTHING FROM CAPCOM.
ReplyDeleteMegaman 11 and Megaman x9, perhaps ? :) I don't think Megaman X9 but likely to be Megaman 11 and maybe Megaman Powered up 2 and Megaman X Maverick Hunter 2 ?
ReplyDelete@Dr. Jerk: People aren't complaining that SF's birthday is getting attention, but that it's geting ALL the attention. SF's birthday isn't until august either, yet they have been planning things since a while now.
ReplyDeleteI'm actually optimistic about this, I believe they have something amazing for us.
ReplyDeleteProbably waiting to say anything until the Wii U has a final release date announced. They know a large part of the fanbase is on Nintendo systems, especially after the Legends 3 shenanigans, so announcing it now, but being unable to give a firm Wii U date would make alot of people nervous.
ReplyDeleteA game better come out of this.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, guys.
ReplyDeleteWe're gonna get a brand new MegaMan title for the Wii U. It's going to look absolutely amazing, and everything.
We're even going to get a Shooting Star spinoff game similar to Network Transmission, but with X-style controls as opposed to NT's Classic style.
Oh, but thing is, they're gonna get cancelled about 3 days before final release. Sorry 'bout that.
I'm not expecting anything good to come out of this. I think they're just bound to set people up for disappointment again, like they've been doing for the past year or so.
ReplyDeleteAssuming they do decide to do something for the twenty-fifth anniversary, I wouldn't be surprised if it was a rehash of something we've already played to death, like Mega Man 2 for instance.
I was okay until the "community-driven" part.
ReplyDelete"Mega Man" "Capcom" "community-driven"
There is one and ONLY one way that those three things put together can end well. And it's something Capcom has spent the last 10 months telling us not to hold our breath for.
@People complaining: At least we've got some acknowledgement. This mean Capcom's now expected to produce SOMETHING.
ReplyDeleteLook at Nintendo. They kept their mouth shut about Metroid's anniversary, meaning it was never expected anything would happen. Same thing with Donkey's 30th, although to be fair, he had DKCR at the end of 2010 so it could count. Mario didn't receive much except that compilation from the SNES and Mario Galaxy 2. They went nuts with Zelda, and Kirby's was acknowledged and is confirmed to get some kind of compilation.
Now you think 'Oh street fighter gets so much love' BS.
Look at the collection. Capcom gave a version of 2, which in general is milked to hell like Megaman 2, 3 is probably cheaper, and 4 is the same deal and has the most sour taste out of all of them. Street Fighter x Tekken I'm not even gonna start on because I think they locked it just so they'd be able to slap on 'Get all DLC for the game' with this thing.
The only reason I would buy this is for the extra crap is for the music, which I could easily listen to on Youtube, or the TV series and documentaries. And those don't interest me as much.
If this is what they do for Megaman, I don't want it.
Complaining about SF's anniversary is still complaining about it all the same. And sure it's in August, but that's still before December. Again, things come first for a reason.
ReplyDeleteI love how some people here are asking for a MM "ultimate collection" of games, while others are saying that a collection of games would be crap. It's obvious nothing would please this childish and unreasonable fanbase.
ReplyDeleteI personally think the SF anniversary set is pretty amazing and I'm definitely getting it. If they put out something like this for MegaMan, it'd be more than I was expecting. Note the SF set doesn't have new games. A MM set wouldn't have a new game either, but unique MM collectibles and stuff like the SF set would still be pretty neat.
rockman is really dead....
ReplyDelete@Dhylec: Yes, because God forbit people have different opinions on the matter, that obviously means the fanbase is childish and unreasonable.
ReplyDelete@Dr. Jerk: You're obviously still missing the point.
ReplyDeleteAbove all else, I'd like a to see a crossover game that honors Megaman's long history, with all series' acknowledged. Kind of like Castlevania Harmony of Despair.
ReplyDelete@Dhylec: Looking down on people for having divergent opinions doesn't strike me as too mature, either.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't mind MM9/10 on a physical disc, but I'd understand if people were afraid that that's all Capcom would do. Like, not even try to generate some interest in MM, just "that's all the effort we can be arsed to put forth".
@Dhylec: How are we gonna get a nice big collection, do tell. Unlike Street fighter games, the X games HAVE not received necessary updates, especially the later X games, the GBA and DS titles won't transfer nicely without everything being redone, and Starforce getting it's necessary model and texture overhaul, and overhaul it isn't pretty. That's why I'm not getting my hopes up for a giant ass collection.
ReplyDeleteNO SYSTEM, except the Wii U and 3DS, can have the 'Ultimate' collection being listed here for the sole fact of the dual screen nature of SF and ZX, ignoring the need for sprite revamps of all games, and the Gameboy Classic and X games getting drastic overhauls.
And I will cite Zelda's anniversary. Ocarina of time 3D, which was a remake that kept true to the original, several games that were free(while only one if not Nintendo Ambassador), and then the holy grails of them all.
Skyward Sword, with Zelda themed remote, which I can actually USE, orchestra soundtrack with the game at no extra cost really, as well as an orchestra tour which was awesome. Oh, and Japan got an epic artbook that had the official timeline in it. That was an anniversary because it went all year and gave LOTS of fanservice.
This... eh. It's a one time big collection, and a bunch of tourneys which pretty much already go on every year at EVO. Nothing really wow there, nothing really for the fans. I was hoping for Street Fighter 1, Alpha, and EX to reappear but nope. Nor did any other versus title such as Street Fighter vs X-men nor Marvel Super Heroes vs X-men return. Capcom vs. SNK: Millennium Fight 2000 would have been awesome too since it was only SF characters too.
The rest of the year? Nothing special. Fighting tourneys happen all the time. This is probably them getting out the left over SSFIVA units because only around 400 000 sold worldwide.
This is nothing special. This is coping out to tried and true games.
Well, this is good to hear. Nice to know there's something in the works. I'm actually pretty excited! I just hope they are doing this sincerely and not because they feel obligated due to certain "events". We want something good, hearty, and satisfying and not just another 8-Bit runaround for example.
ReplyDelete@Dhylec
Something you really have to understand is that the Mega Man fanbase is one that has been shunned and toyed with for so very long. It's a fanbase that is bountiful and passionate and they get no reciprocation. Street Fighter fans seem to get everything handed to them. Not that it's a bad series or anything, but Mega Man is just as worthy.

@Ash Crimson
I would be OK with a Rockman X7 HD.
Assuming a few things:
1. Loading times cut out or sped up dramatically
2. Ability to skip dialogues
Yes, I actually enjoyed X7 on some level, despite all its flaws.
Go ahead and point and this so-called fan and laugh.
-------------------------------
As far as other games, I'm not optimistic enough to expect MM11, X9, ZXA-2.
Also not happening, MMPU 2, Maverick Hunter X2, Legends 3.
Seriously, MMPU/MHX didn't sell well enough; we would've seen sequels to those remakes ages ago.

(if this is a duplicate post, delete)
I'm almost certain Capcom is getting off on this at this point.
ReplyDeleteEverything they say is too calculated to hit the weakpoints they left from our past disapointments.
I'm expecting nothing for Megaman's 25th. Capcom is full of liars and has no respect for their consumers anymore.
I can't say I'm expecting much, but I'm certainly hoping for it. Especially after seeing that awesome commemorative box set for Street Fighter.
ReplyDelete@Anon4: I'd actually be pretty hyped for a Mega Man Soccer 2, but I think I'd much prefer a Mega Man Tennis 2 for console (not mobile) and with a crapton of characters. Gah, how I wish Mega Man had sold out as successfully to sports games like Mario did. You have no idea how fun I think those are (yet ironically, I dislike real sports or realistic sports games).
My only problem with all of this is that I have absolutely no interest in any of the Classic MegaMan games or that other crap.
ReplyDeleteI'm a MMX and on player, yet everything that happens lately is only related to Classic.
I'm still waiting on ZX3, but it'll never happen.
I bought my games and put money into their hands, but still I was met with disappointment.
Legends 3 had me really interested, until... well, y'know.
@otarolgam Asperger's much?
ReplyDeleteFor the record, I enjoy X7 as well. Don't feel so alone, Anon. ;)
ReplyDeleteFollowing suit with an HD collection of some sort would be cool. Like X7, X8 and MHX. Still, something new would be most wanted.
I find it very strange how this anniversary apparently has to wait until December, when the previous one (which also marked the last time we saw Mega Man games at retail, where the vast majority of sales occur) had commemorative games released as early as July, and when Street Fighter's undeniably equally important anniversary does not have to wait until August 30th.
ReplyDeleteI'm not expecting anything of particular note, sad to say, but I hope that Capcom USA come through with something worthwhile.
Hm. I don't understand. Does Brett mean that the announcement won't come out until December, or the information about the announcement won't come out until December?
ReplyDeleteEither way, jeez. Way to wait until the last minute. A company after my own heart!
