Good news, Battle Network/Star Force fans! The Rockman EXE Operate Shooting Star English translation project is back on. A dedicated fan by the name of Speaker has taken over the reigns, continuing where the original team left off.
So far, things are off to a great start: all the Battle Chips have been translated, with dialog strings to follow. At this rate, the project could wrap-up around April/May. That's the best case scenario, mind you. If worst comes to worst, we may not see anything until December-ish.
Speaker will be regularly updating his Twitter feed with progress reports and English screenshots, so check back often. If you'd like to lend a hand, I'm sure Speaker would like to hear from you. Drop your contact info in the comments, and we'll see what we can do together.
Well what do you know, we finally got some more positive news (gamewise).
ReplyDeleteGreat to hear that they're continuing where the original team left off instead of restarting the entire thing.
ReplyDeleteFans are the ever-beating heart the Mega Man franchise. ;)
ReplyDeleteWell i helped him a little. I did answer his questions.
ReplyDelete(And i have publicly released what I did.)
I just hope he has more patience than me. ^^'
I feel awkward now.
I wish Speaker the best of luck on this. :)
ReplyDeleteJust had a smile grow on my face
ReplyDeleteYeeeeeeeeeeeeees!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could help, but I know no Japanese. Maybe I could help... promote? XD
ReplyDeleteyayay~ thankyouu~
ReplyDeleteI know it sounds rude...but really, why should anyone care?
ReplyDeleteThe game is 99% PORT of the original MMBN,with the same text and everything
Playing this game is just like playing MMBN1 again + a little scenario...which is shockingly short
When I played this game I thought the scenario is going to be long like any other,Iceman,Fireman, etc
But...it was just a linear area and ended in 5 minutes -_-
Game was just a lazy port and it's stupid that Capcom look at this game sells like it says anything more than "we don't want to spend our money on lazy ports"
@8:47 anon: well sorry if some of us actually want to play OSS, which not only has SSRockman but also *chips, subchips and other OW things from newer games. Also, unlike the other BN games, BN 1 hasnt aged as gracefully. OSS fixes that problem somewhat.
ReplyDeleteWe already know its a lazy port stop beating that dead horse like someone else on thia blog does with Universe. Why do you think we want the patched rom and not the actual game? ;)
Oh.....so they're still working on a fan translation of Mega Man Battle Network 1.15. Okay.
ReplyDelete@Anon #5:
Not for nothing, but the amount of SSRockman in this game is painfully small and not even worth a ROM, IMO.
I hope the translator is thinking of having the voice clips dubbed.
ReplyDeleteIf so, I'll happily sign up for Lan or Shooting Star Megaman. :3
@ 2-8-12 10:47 anon:
ReplyDeleteRegardless of how much of it is still BN1, there are people out there that wanted this game to come out overseas. But no, it didn't. That's why this is being done.
More or less, it's basically what the 11:46 anon said.
Besides, I'd love to have a chance to play a game that has SSRockman/Megaman in it, since I skipped out on buying a Star Force game when I had the chance. (All because I got TvC instead and was able to play as Volnutt, Roll, and Zero. XD)
Aye, most people want OSS for the "Updated" part of that port. They don't care for the RnR stuff so much as the refined and tweaked mechanics.
ReplyDeleteStill, it's a shame I'll never play it, even if it is released. I don't know of any DS emulators that actually work well.
I...I can't believe it. (سಥ益ಥ)س
ReplyDelete@ LuigiBlood
ReplyDeleteYou helped a great deal, and we're grateful to you for that.
Thank you for the work you did do. C:
It will be good, I hope they can finish it~!
ReplyDeleteYou know, I was pretty indifferent to this project at first, but seeings how Capcom is doing jack squat with Mega Man, now I'm actually anxious for it.
ReplyDeleteI'm curious to see how this turns out. I haven't looked at OSS, but scripts in BN4-BN6 are a bit annoying to work with. He says he's learning ROM hacking on-the-fly, so I'm not getting my hopes up yet, but who knows? If he's dedicated enough, he can make it happen. In any case, good luck to him.

ReplyDelete@Musashi:
ReplyDeleteAnd what does your comment do to contribute or even say anything on the matter of this translation or even possible dub, if the translator would allow people like Amir to be a part of it.
You're not a member of the team (if there is one) working on this translation, so you have no say in the matter of who can do what.
Once again, it's your antics of always wanting to stalk Amir on literally every single article he comments on in this blog. If you have strong romantic feelings for the guy, then for fuck's sake, say it already. No one in this whole blog believes it can be of any other reason than this. Because even the dumbest of people don't obsess over one guy as badly as you do.
@Amir: As of this writing, I don't have any plans on trying to organize any volunteer voice actors for Lan's, MegaMan.EXE's, and Geo's lines. Rather than leave you with just that though, I want to explain why:
ReplyDeleteVoice acting tends to be hilariously subjective. One man's shining moment in front of the mic is another's coma-by-ear-bleeding. When I put out this patch, I don't want to force anyone into sitting through voice actors they didn't sign on for, so to speak. ^__^;
This means that, if I wanted to get English fan VAs, I'd end up trying to hold them to non-fan standards ("Your voice broke when shouting 'Transmit!'," "The mike's making your voice a bit too tinny for my liking...," "Can you try saying that line again, but with more oomph on 'Star' rather than 'Force'?") in an effort to ensure any possible negative impressions of the game are all on EXEOSS' shoulders, and not on the translation effort.
For all I don't have any intent on seeing English lines in the patch though, I definetly encourage you to consider putting up VO lines for it on YouTube or the likes, Amir-- if it catches a hacker's fancy, we'll see then how English lines check out in-game. If the community recieves such lines well, then it could very well become the standard for playing EXEOSS in English! xD
Best of luck to you Amir! Whatever you choose to do, have fun with it. ^___^
Whoa, a deleted comment on PRC. See something new every day.
ReplyDeleteI wish them all the best.
ReplyDeleteI cant believe it's finally back on! Now will this become a free download rom?
ReplyDeleteCouldn't you take all the English translations from the gba version of MMBN1 and use them in the english patch of OSS? It would be really easy and you would just have to translate the parts with Geo and Clockman.... Just saying.... Anyway I fully support your project and wish you guy the best of luck! I wanna download this rom asap!!!
ReplyDeleteFINALLLY!!!!!!!!!!! I HAVE WANTED A TRANSLATION FOREVER NOW! i had never been so disappointed when capcom cancelled the English release...
