It's been a rough year when it comes to new Mega Man games. So to tide you over until Capcom does something, my pal Allahweh and I are are distributing a little something you might appreciate: Rockman Gold Empire.
Released for the PC in 1999, Gold Empire was one of many exceedingly rare Taiwan exclusive Rockman titles. It may not look like it, but the game is actually *official* -- produced by Strawberry Software Incorporated, under license by Capcom.
For those not in the know, Gold Empire is basically a spiritual successor to RockBoard... basically, Monopoly with a Rockman twist. Yes, it isn't the greatest thing under the sun but it's a quirky little game you might want to play for just for kicks. More detailed information can be found at the Mechanical Maniacs' documentation here.
Now then, the file you're downloading is an ISO, therefore you should mount it with something like Daemon tools. Here are some additional instructions provided by Allahweh:
"When the disc runs and pops up with a menu, select the option furthest on the left which should install the game's files into your Program Files (or Program Files x86 on 64-bit machines) directory as "RGE." From there, you shouldn't need the disc anymore to play the game, though alternatively the second option from the left on the disc menu will run the game. After it is installed, double-clicking "Rockman" should start the game. If you get an error message, try running the game as an Admin and that should bypass it."
Once you get all that out of the way, you should be good to go. The game is, for the most part, not in English. It's playable to a degree, but I highly recommend you refer to the Mechanical Maniacs' article to grasp an understanding of the gist of what's going on.
Thanks to Allahweh for the dump! If you have any trouble in getting the game up and running, let us know in the comments. I'm sure Allahweh would be more than happy to help you out. Enjoy!
weak, I thought this was the SRPG :(
ReplyDeleteWe might have that coming down the line ;)
ReplyDelete@extremesonic: This game is quite rare, nonetheless, though certainly not the best PC game out there in the Rockman series. Though, honestly, if you ever play Rockman Strategy I'd argue it's not that great either, but the music is good and the art is nice. It's more of a novelty.
ReplyDeleteMy personal favorite is ROCKMEN R: DR WILY'S COUNTERATTACK, just because it has the overall feel of a 2D Rockman game, but lets you play as Roll.
I've been looking for this forever!
ReplyDeleteAwesome!
ReplyDeleteAlso, on an unrelated note, I see you finally got a proper Favorites icon for the site. Kudos! :D
I think i am the only one who thinks the new character in this game "The Mayor" is awesome!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new fav.ico.
ReplyDelete@Joseph: Oh, you can see it? Great! Odd; I don't see it on my end.
ReplyDelete@Protodude
ReplyDeleteHave you tried reloading the main site without caching? Ctrl+F5 in Firefox, I think. Also, I think it only shows up on the site, and not when commenting. That seems to still have the Blogger Logo.
Ah yes, that did it. Yeah, the comment icon is beyond my control. A Blogger thing, I suppose.
ReplyDelete@Allahweh: Yeah I heard that Strategy isn't that great either, still its one of my favourite genres with one of my favourite series, so I have give it a go.
ReplyDeleteThanks.
ReplyDeleteWow, I was hunting for this game years back to the point where I forgot about it (probably because it's not directly from Capcom).
ReplyDeleteThis should make an interesting project for a translation (anyone wanna join me?).
Many thanks for the upload guys ^_^
I think most people who say the strategy game isn't that great can't read the languge. I hear its rather easy to translate, all the dialog is in text files or some such. SOMEONE DO THAT.
ReplyDeletewhen the parents are away, the pirates come out to play. nice protodude. didn't figure you for an eyepatch kinda guy. sure, some betas that never got released, but a full on complete game? just because capcom isn't doing the job the way the fans think they should be?
ReplyDeleteyou disappoint me sir.
I always thought The Mayor looked like Lt. Surge from Pokemon.
ReplyDeleteI was going to say, is that Lt. Surge... but naw..
ReplyDelete@linkthesuper: Actually, I was given permission to post this some years back by the developer themselves.
ReplyDeleteThe game is long out of print; they pretty much classify it as freeware.
Neat. Hopefully this means that the sprites are rippable now.
ReplyDelete@ protodude: really? didn't know that. might give it a shot myself then. i appologize for my statement. had i known, i wouldn't have said it.
ReplyDeleteIt's cool, no worries.
ReplyDelete@Piotyr:
ReplyDeleteIf this helps, Gauntlet has the whole script in his site:
http://themechanicalmaniacs.com/articles/RMSLG.php
And someone from MMKB did a (poor) translation of the story with Google Translate:
http://megaman.wikia.com/wiki/User:Quick/Misc#Script
@Piotyr: I actually know what the text says and understand the story of Rockman Strategy, it's just that the game mechanics aren't all that well done. In fact, near the end of the game I'm pretty sure you cannot beat it because one of the bosses recovers his health completely after each round and you cannot do enough damage to destroy him without cheating.
ReplyDeleteThat aside, I think it's a good concept with iffy production, but the art-style and music are nice and it's a fun game to have for collector's reasons.
@ allahweh
ReplyDeletemakes me wonder if there's a way to patch it. i mean, if the company has basicly considered this free now, why not? look at doom. it's free, and there are more hacks than a person can enjoy in a lifetime (8-bit deathmatch ring a bell?)
yeah, a translation and a fix patch would be good.
@Anon: Yes, I'm sure you could patch the game to translate it without too much trouble, and hacking it to fix the bugs wouldn't be too difficult for someone that knew what they were doing with it. As far as I know, the game is pretty much free-ware now, given the fact that I am pretty sure Dream Come True is defunct as a company, just as Strawberry Soft likely is in this game's case as well.
ReplyDeleteSorry, but do you know how to install this game exactly? I installed it and when I command it to enter the game, black shows up on the corners of the screen then disappears. Would you know why? Thank you. I have always wanted to try this game. I even searched the internet for 3 hours last month to find any of those licensed games. I never ended up finding any though. :(
ReplyDelete@Anon: The download should be an ISO file. You need to get it and mount it with Daemon Tools or a similar program. Once you do, a menu should pop up, and in that menu select the choice on the far-left. This will install the game in your Programs (or Programs x86) folder in a directory called “RGE.” From there, you can simply run the game and enjoy. If you get an error message when trying to play it, try right-clicking the EXE and running it as an administrator.
ReplyDeleteI don't suppose this could get reuploaded anywhere? Megaupload is dead.
ReplyDeleteIs it possible for you to reupload this? The link has been dead for more than a year now. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteLink is dead. Reupload plz?
ReplyDeleteCould you please re-upload the link? I could really use this game in my collection.
ReplyDeleteLink is dead as shit. lol It was hosted on MegaUpload, now defunct for years.
ReplyDeleteA reupload in the successor's website, mega.co.nz, would be very welcome. I had heard of Rockman Strategy before, but not THIS one.
OK, you can find this game AND many more official obscure titles on this link: http://minamistudio.com/gamedownload/pc.htm
ReplyDeleteI HIGHLY recommend using JDownloader (v2 and up only, never v1) to download from each of the pan;baidu individual links from that website I posted above.
Hopefully this will help someone.
Can someone repost the link to download it?
