Mega Man Dual Pack Seeing Slight Delay

There's been a minor change in plans concerning the release date of Mega Man Dual Pack, a budget bundling of Mega Man Powered Up and Maverick Hunter X. Originally due for an early September release, GameStop has revised the product's launch to September 16.

No reason for the delay was divulged. However, it is the hopes of some fans the delay will provide Capcom extra time to include a bonus soundtrack, a goodie that can be found in Dual Pack's Japanese counterpart, the Rockman Rockman/Irregular Hunter X Value Pack. Pure speculation, I'm afraid.

According to my go-to GameStop correspondent Johnathan, there's been no change in the SKU itself. Two UMDs inside, that's it. John is under the impression Capcom is merely using the extra time to ramp up stock to meet "an unexpected demand." It would seem Dual Pack is exceeding sales projections... certainly good news.

If you've yet to play Powered Up or Maverick Hunter X, you can't go wrong with picking up Dual Pack. Pre-orders are available now.

  7. We'll get an announcement from Capcom saying that the Dual Pack has been cancelled because it didn't meet the expectations of Capcom executives.

This is a sign. Capcom's trolling with us. Better to not support its non-Megaman related games. I'm telling you. Megaman is as good as dead since Inafune's leaving. I'm an optimistic guy, but what with everything that's happened so far, I'm losing hope for the franchise. For me, the only hope left is if Inafune buys the franchise, but then again, that's not gonna happen. After all, "Megaman is a very important brand" to Capcom. Yeah it sure is. What with playing cards, and figures (though I have nothing against those because I love 'em), and comics (again, I have nothing against them because I love 'em all), and mobile phone games (once more, nothing against these), it's really showing it's an important BRAND.

  8. If the original date was set around the first three days (9/1-9/3) then this prolly isn't a delay; GameStop sets those dates as general purpose, basically saying "it's coming out in september but we don't know for sure what date yet". Happens all the time.

  9. Heeeere we go! Act 2 of the performance! Capcom delays the release of a Mega Man game for unexplained reasons for at least the third time now.

seriously, someone needs to take a laxative, and then sit on the desks of the executives.

  11. I am getting a sinking feeling that this means they're going to cancel this. I do hope it really is just them trying to "meet an unexpected demand", though. That would make me pretty happy.

  12. So hold on.

One day you're mad at Capcom for re-releasing older titles on the Virtual Console.

Now you're mad at Capcom for NOT re-releasing an older title.

    MAKE UP YOUR MINDS.

  13. Canceled?

These games already came out. Seriously, if there's anything we can expect to see of Mega Man, it's releasing a game that's already been released.

I think we're overreacting a bit over a bundle pack released WAY late in the game.

  14. @Anon before Flame: It's the delay. dude. As of now, the Dual Pack seems to be a deja vu of MML3. Delayed for unexplained reasons... then cancelled later on. It's the current cycle of life for Mega Man under Capcom. Do you understand?

Don't take this the wrong way. I hope Capcom proves me wrong. But based on recent events... I wouldn't be surprised if what I predicted came true.

  15. What about this part of the news story?

"According to my go-to GameStop correspondent Johnathan, there's been no change in the SKU itself. Two UMDs inside, that's it. John is under the impression Capcom is merely using the extra time to ramp up stock to meet "an unexpected demand." It would seem Dual Pack is exceeding sales projections... certainly good news."

Developing a new game and re-releasing an old one have to be different worlds of expenses for Capcom. This is a sure-fire, easy way to make money. Companies like easy money. It'll come out.

  16. It's cancelled. In fact, Capcom is going back in time to their original releases and erase them from existence forever.

    ReplyDelete
  17. yeah, i think we need to explain a bit here. i'm not fond of crappy re-releasing old games, simply because it's a lazy way to cash in, when they're not releasing any new games either. it also makes them look like sega (release a game collection, let it drop severely in price, then slowly release the games from it online, and charge more for them)

but when they say they're going to release something, at this point, especialy mega man (you don't see them "delaying" UMVC3, do you?) even if it IS one of those re-releases, things like this tend to make us angry, because they're only doing this kind of stuff to MEGA MAN. for us, it's a bad sign.

but to be honest, re-releases like these, though lazy in my opinion, may very well prove the series is viable, thus LEADING to new games. gotta take the small apples with the big, right?

  18. *sigh* I miss Megaman games.

  19. I think it's more about timing than anything else. September 16th is during TGS, after all.

Although unless Capcom is advertising it during TGS, I'd expect this to work against it.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Then they're going to cancel it.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Is this all that's coming out this year? I hope they announce something MM related at TGS. If not, I fear MM's 25th anniversary will be a sad one.

    ReplyDelete
  22. @ September 3, 2011 2:27 PM Anon:

Mega Man is not known for long development cycles. This upcoming anniversary is still three months away, and it's barely the 24th anniversary. I would not expect anything Mega Man related to be announced at this year's TGS that will be released for the 25th anniversary.

I also wouldn't expect anything other than a collection out of the 25th anniversary as well. Which is sad when you look at Sega and see all the effort they are putting into a game for Sonic's 25th anniversary.

(Okay, MM9 may have been created for the 20th anniversary. But that's miniscule in comparison.)

    ReplyDelete
  23. or they're thinking about cancelling that too... -.-

    ReplyDelete
  24. new names suggested: cancom and capcan. and no, cancan would just be wrong. even for them.

    ReplyDelete
  25. @Alilatias. Uhhh MM9 came out in 2008. That's his 21st not 20th. Also this year is Sonics 20th not 25th. Sigh -_-;

    ReplyDelete
  26. ^ I was about to say that. lol

    ReplyDelete
  27. Yeah, wasn't the Starforce series part of Mega Man's 20th anniversary? Honestly, I think Capcom's sort of overdone it with anniversaries. They do it ever five years. What other franchise does that?

    ReplyDelete
  28. @ TTL: Sega does! there's alot more in common between these two companies than i'm comfortable with. not to mention, thier main platforming stars are both blue. and they both have a red companion that's stronger than them. oh yeah, and a black colored one, but i'd chalk that up to anime stereotyping. what anime hero DOESN'T have an antihero rival? and half the time, they wear black (vegeta is an exception)

    ReplyDelete
  29. ^ I'm pretty sure I've seen Vegeta wearing black in Dragon Ball GT.

  30. @ September 3, 2011 10:56 PM Anon:

Really? *looks at calendar for a bit*

Bleargh. Further proves my point then. Capcom didn't do squat for MM's 20th anniversary, and given recent cancellations, what makes anyone think that something's going to change by the 25th anniversary?

Regarding Sonic... Meh, typo, I guess. I don't really keep up with Sonic that much. Still, Sonic used to be regarded as a zombie series with an arse backwards development direction leading to a terrible, split-up, rabid fanbase. (To the point where the 'Sonic Cycle' exists, and you all probably know what it means already.)

However, it seems in the past year or two alone, Sega has managed to just about completely turn that around. That Sonic Colors game seems to be critically acclaimed as one of the best Sonic games since the earliest ones, despite using the 3D style that I thought most of the fanbase hated. And now look at what Sega is doing for Sonic's anniversary - an anniversary game that looks like it features tons of references to past games, and allows you to play on the 2D plane with classic Sonic or the 3D plane with modern Sonic.

Capcom? They've fallen back to 8-bit digital downloads, made a really sad and confused westernization attempt that was eventually cancelled for better or for worse, and the only Mega Man game in recent years that couldn't be considered lazy or a rehash by any means was cancelled.

(Meanwhile, westernized DmC marches onwards even though most DMC fans don't even want it.

About two years ago, Capcom declared that they'd like to have one Resident Evil title per year. This year, we're seeing 3 or 4 Resident Evil titles, one already released with a form of 'you only have one save and you can't delete it or overwrite it with a new game' DRM that concerned a lot of people earlier in the year, to the point where there was a mechanism built in to prevent that save file from being corrupted as well.

Then there's Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom 3 releasing just 8 months after regular MvC3. Come on, now, really?! At least now everyone knows why regular MvC3 felt so incomplete...)

sorry, not a fan of colors. the gameplay is good and all, but it doesn't work for me. the stages are too short, with the long ones usualy being boring "rollercoaster" stages. it's fine for some, but not for me. and generations' "classic" stages feel like sonic rush, without the boosting or tricks (played that limited edition demo). and yet, i had fun with sonic 06, and loved SA1 and 2, as well as the originals. wierd? probably. but oh well. this isn't the point. point is, sega's recent idea to release a collection of games, and then on the VERY consoles the did so on, (and even the wii!) they start releasing the games individualy, and charging more for them in total than the collection is going for, new OR used. and capcom is doing the same. stinkin'. THING. MMAC on all last gen, and MMXC on PS2 and cube, and guess what? now we're seeing the games re-released on this generation! why not re-release the collections? easy! THEY MAKE MORE MONEY THIS WAY! sure, nothing wrong with making money, but THIS, THIS is REDICULOUS! milking a few dollars more? for what! they're already filthy rich. oh yeah... the only other way to actualy make money, is to RELEASE NEW GAMES IN THE SERIES! and they're BOTH guilty of this in one sense. capcom: can the games deemed "too risky" (my butt they are) sega: release crappy games, with a "good" one every now and then. (i say it like that, because most may be happy with it, but not everyone.)

and let's not forget, that capcom put a CAD order out for SORR, shortly before re-releasing the original streets of rage, for iphone and ps3. the only way capcom wins here. they haven't put that order out for the nes demakes of mega 7 and 8.

and about my vegeta statement. i forgot about GT. accepted or not, he did wear black, but it wasn't a primary color. it was a shirt. compare that to shadow and bass' full body black. sure, his hair is black, but aside from his dad, isn't most saiyans hair black? (king vegeta's was a VERY dark brown) and trunks doesn't count. he's half human, and took his hair after bulma.

either way, crapcom AND $$$ega both need to straighten up. you have to admit that much.

Dude, SEGA has already gotten they're shit together. I havnt seen a midiocre Sonic title since Sonic 4 came out. And you really ought to go replay Sonic Rush RIGHT NOW, because the physics in that game are NOTHING like the ones for C.Sonic in Generations.
Also, the fact that you enjoyed Sonic 06 makes you're entire statement a whole lot less credible my friend.

    ReplyDelete
  33. ... Capcom didn't make Streets of Rage SEGA did, what the hell are you talking about?

  34. All you whining about Capcom delaying and canceling Mega Man games "lately" are suffering from short term memory. Mega Man Mania, anyone? Delayed, delayed, delayed and then canceled. This is not a recent trend with Capcom / Megaman.

At least at this point in time they are wise enough not to be taking people's money up front with pre-orders, like they did with MMM.
