Mega Man X2 Set To Hit Wii Virtual Console

North American X fans, rejoice. According to a recent rating at the ESRB, Mega Man X2 is headed to the Virtual Console. The Entertainment Software Rating Board rated the game for Wii, pegged with an Everyone rating for animated violence.

We've no indication when the game will release, but this tidbit of news means it's being prepped. North America usually (but not always) gets VC Mega Man titles a few weeks or so after they hit Japan. However, X2 has yet to arrive in the East. Make of that what you will, I suppose. Perhaps we'll be getting this one first?

As with all Super Nintendo titles, X2 will run you 800 Wii Points and supports play with either the Classic Controller or GameCube controller. I don't know about you, but I loved X2. Lot of nostalgia behind that one, so color me excited.

Thanks for the tip, Lou!

  1. Yay! Another re-re-release!

X2 is also one of my favorite MMX games, but meh, why buy it alone for Wii if there is Mega Man X Collection for Game Cube?

  2. ...And STILL us fans in Europe wait for Megaman X & MM5 to hit Wii VC! Seriously how hard can it be to upload at least those 2 games Capcom?

  3. Why?

You're not an avid follower of the secondary market (believe me, there are people who will "huh?" at you when you mention ebay) or didn't follow the last generation to know of the anniversary collections.

A few reasons, at least. :P Me, I want the SNES cart, so I'll be passing on it. I'm just glad to see people have the option.

  4. If people still whine about this like they did with Wily's Revenge... I'm going to be a bit disappointed honestly.

  5. It's technically a re-release, since it's the SNES version on a different console.

It would be a re-re-release if it was the MMXCollection version ported into the Wii. Or if it was a bare-boned remake of the original version ported into the Wii (MHX2).

Doesn't make it less unnecesary, though.

  6. So, Mega Man X2 is getting added to the Shop Channel? Cool. Like I always say, I won't be purchasing it myself, since I already have it as part of Mega Man X Collection, but I'll definitely download Mega Man X3 when that gets released, since it's the SNES version with the original, unedited soundtrack. The arranged track has grown on me over the years, but I still prefer the way it sounded in the original.

  7. COOL. I'VE NEVER PLAYED THIS GAME BEFORE.

    ...lol. =/

Oh well, at least SNES X3 prices may drop if and when it comes out for VC.

  8. My all-time favorite MM game! And also like the only one I don't have (if you exclude X Collection). Not sure I'd pay to play it again after already playing it a gajillion times though...

  9. Yea, I think X2 was my favorite too. It was the first one to feature the 3D enhancements and it just had a different feel to it than the other titles. X1 was great, but X2 took that and made it better. I felt like X3 was okay, but the music wasn't nearly as catchy and neither were the bosses, it kind of felt rushed.

  10. Coolio, I haven't played this.

This just leaves 6, 7, and X3 to come out on the Wii Virtual Console, and then there's no more to release right?

  11. I already have this game but, It's great to see other people enjoy it.

  12. Think about how much money Nintendo would make if they just pushed as many games from the SNES library, heck, the NES, SNES, and N64 library as they could onto the VC. I know there are licensing headaches sometimes, but this is hardly as much as they can get.

With an organized storefront that focuses on "new" or featured content, they'd make a killing.

  13. Can we get a real game now please!

X3's music? Not as catchy? You carazy, boi! I do like how the three SNES games each have a different sound to them. X1's music was incredible with excellent guitar, strings and percussion sounds. X2's kinda felt lacking where tunes were shorter and the percussion had a softer impact and the guitars had a "twang" to them with fuzzy distortion, but by no means was the music bad and still ever as catchy. X3's SNES version was very heavy with the guitars and provided a truly rocking soundtrack. I feel X2 is the middle ground sound between X1 and X3. In the next era of gaming the music still became sweeter and sweeter. It wouldn't be a Mega Man game if it didn't have a killer soundtrack. =3

  15. YES.
I'm SO getting this one as soon as it comes. Thus, we get one step closer to completion on the Virtual Console front. Only 6, 7 and X3 remain...

  16. Capcom's taking advantage of the situation. With Xenoblade, Pandora, and last story coming to europe, Wii owners will be focused on them and not the VC. Once another drought hits Europe Wii Owners, THATS when they'll come out.

But in North America, gamers will be more focused on the VC since there's a drought of games until the holiday season.

Capcom's actually being smart in this scenario in terms of getting games out to the maximum number of people.

  17. In my opinion, this is the most underrated Mega Man game in the franchise. Good to see it getting some VC love!

  18. @GeminiSaint:

Alongside RockBoard, Mega Man's Soccer, Mega Man: The Wily Wars, and Mega Man 64.

  19. here's what i don't get. they released the collections on the last gen, and now, instead of bringing the collections to current gens, they release the games separately, and charge more for them that way, than they did with the collection, and re-release collection, on PS2... WHICH IS STILL LAST GEN! WHAT THE HECK!?

...why does this sound so fammiliar to me? must be a reason... OH YEAH! sega is pulling the same crap! ultimate genesis collection on PS3 and 360 is now available used for about $13 (new, about $20, but good luck finding it!) and only a HANDFUL of the games have been re-released ON THE SAME SYSTEMS ONLINE STORES! the real kicker? buying all of the ones currently out, WILL COST YOU MORE THAN THE ENTIRE COLLECTION!

reminds me of how Ubisoft kept re-releasing Rayman 1 and 2.

i suggest we refer to these companies, or this style of business, as "Segcom" or "Segcomming", or separately refer to them as (well known) "Crapcom", and "Seg ugh".

sorry for the rant, but it just pisses me off.

  20. Rockman & Forte should be released on the Wii VC.
