Well this is just tasteless.
ReplyDeleteWTF? That looks like something that sells at the flea market.
ReplyDeleteIf this sells enough, maybe they'll think about pretending to develop Legends 3 again.
ReplyDelete^
ReplyDelete^Agreed.
if it's lenticular maybe it changes from Classic Series to X meaning X & KightMan are 2 separate pics but this shows them combined.
ReplyDeleteI don't even have words for this. Holy crap. They're just trolls.
ReplyDeleteThat's retarded.
ReplyDeleteA Megaman cover for a console with no Megaman games?
we don't need mega man games! people need to quit whining about capcom. this kind of stuff is better! who needs games, when you can protect what you play them with? who needs a game about a blue robot, when they can have him on the system one of his variations was supposed to come out on? i mean, come ON! someone needs to grow up here!
ReplyDeleteYou know your out of touch with your franchise when....
ReplyDeleteIf only the images themselves weren't so damn ugly.
ReplyDeletethe images themselves are fine in my opinion. I just find it unfitting to have X and Knightman together on it. I may buy it for my 3DS only to support the franchise. Other than that I'm on the fence about it since I agree that it does look like something from a flea market.
ReplyDeleteWhere do flea market peddlers get this kind of stuff, anyway?
ReplyDeleteIt's a mystery!
That thing looks terrible it looks like it was slapped together last minute and considering the fact you just canceled one of your main products in this franchise on the DS makes it look even worse.
ReplyDeletehooooboy capcom you're already on thin ice the only way I can see redemption at this point is you at least release the bloody prototype already or you guys have an SNES-esque X9 that kicks ass.
tl;dr son I am dissapoint stop shilling this BS and give megaman a bloody chance.
"I bought a 3DS to play Megaman Legends 3 and all I got was this stupid plastic case."
ReplyDeleteBut hey, at least it's limited edition! :D
This kind of thing reminds me how the MM brand was treated in the 90s. I always felt that Capcom of America didn't understand there were different MM series complete with different characters and settings. Hence they can just slap two characters from two different series because they're both "Mega Man" characters.
ReplyDeleteI never saw this at SDCC this year
ReplyDeleteEh...looks really cool. Although I am not a fan of mixed art from different series and such. It always seems like the people who make these products don't really know what art to use or whatever. One of the coolest products like this was the ever rarer X Gamecube controller. =3
ReplyDeleteI'll think about picking this up though. Even though I don't have a 3DS yet and maybe never will unless some killer app comes out.
I just paid £40 for this incl. postage as i live in the uk... call me crazy but itll be good to have :)
ReplyDeleteJust got two :D!
ReplyDeleteIt's limited edition because they don't want to do more than 200, because capcom don't like really megaman, uh? So, it's not a "rare" quality, it's just ridiculous (with ugly picture, i agree)!
ReplyDeleteHow lazy. Why did they put... Knightman?
ReplyDeleteThis would be a lot cooler if the artwork and logo all actually made any sense together. The logo just says Mega Man, and yet you see Mega Man X on there, and then Knight Man is there, too… it’s really strange to me. Is Capcom so out of touch with the franchise that even they have now confused Mega Man X with the original Mega Man? I honestly don’t get what’s going on here. I might consider it if they did one of these things.
ReplyDeleteEither
A) Change the logo from “Mega Man” to “Mega Man X” and replace Knight Man with a Maverick (like Boomer Kuwanger or Wheel Gator, for example).
or
B) Replace Mega Man X with the original Mega Man.
I’m sorry, but right now, this just looks like a half-ass attempt to me from someone who knows nothing about the Mega Man series. Like Some Dude said, this strange mash-up of character art and logo just makes it look like a cheap pirate accessory you'd find at a flea market.
I dont see why everyones complaning. I dont care 'bout the design as I can easily just remove the slip of paper from it and bam, a good protective case. And it would also make for a good collectors item.
ReplyDeleteBesides, the only other case as far as I know is a shitty LoZ one.
I'm more bugged by the fact that they slapped on Knight Man onto this when X doesn't have anything to do with him...
ReplyDeletePoor choice as always, Capcom.
Did you all (except 1 anon) read that it says LENTICULAR! So maybe it has 2 different pics and since a picture can only show one image at a time they just blended the 2 to give you the idea. Also the package on the store shows 3 different pics on the bottom right so maybe you can swap them out like the StarForce DS/DSi case kit!
ReplyDeleteI.
ReplyDeleteWow.
Really?
@Kips: Actually, there's also a Street Fighter and Resident Evil case (though I only know this because you can see them on the page where this case is located).
ReplyDelete@Anon11: I see that it says it's lenticular, but the page hasn't provided any pictures (that I can see) that clearly show just what the different images would be. I wouldn't want to buy something based on an assumption, and would like to know exactly what I'm getting before spending money on it.
Also, just because it's lenticular, doesn't mean it does have different images. Often times, lenticular printing is just used to make an image look 3D, which might be the case for this case, and would especially make sense due to the system being the 3DS and all.
I ordered two. Screw the lot of you haters; I want my Meggy back.
ReplyDelete@Megamanzero
ReplyDeleteUh, these are limited edition and you got two? Why? Other people want them too, you know.
The only thing that would be more insulting is if it were Legends characters on the case.
ReplyDeleteStill not giving you my money, Capcom. When I told you I wanted to see MegaMan on the 3DS, this is NOT what I meant.
ReplyDeleteRockman Online artwork! Oh wait, it's a PC game not 3DS, the only game for it in the moment is Dr. Wily's Revenge. And it's the original X and Knight Man, not their Online versions. WTF? It looks like it was randomly chosen. Why not the original Mega Man vs. Enker? Or X vs. a Maverick, Barrett vs. Donner Wels, ... But Knight Man? He never even appeared in a portable game, unlike MM1-5 for Game Boy, Mega Man Xtreme 1-2, Mega Man & Bass, MMPU, MHX, and most/all games from the Zero, ZX, Battle Network and Star Force series. Only hardcore collectors will take it due to it being limited, but otherwise it's not even worth looking at it.
ReplyDelete@ Kips
ReplyDeleteUh, I have the "shitty LoZ one" and I'm missing what's so shitty about it . . .
Excluding re-releases, collections, remakes, mobile (most Japan-only, and at least half are mini-games), and Rockman Online (which is still under production and who knows when and if it will be released outside Korea or a translation patch is done), the last game we got was Mega Man Star Force 3 for NDS. There were no games for PS3, Wii, Xbox 360, and 3DS until Mega Man Universe and Mega Man Legends 3 were announced. (excluding MM9-10)
ReplyDeleteBut heck, they were cancelled without even a explanation. I let MMU slide because, although Capcom didn't mentioned it or even used it as excuse, it was cancelled in March 31, the same month (March 14 2011) of the earthquake in Japan, which is the reason other games were cancelled or delayed, and unlike Capcom the other companies explained it was because of it. Thankfully MML3 continued and was very active, but in July 18 it was cancelled without a explanation or reason given. It was only vaguely said that some unknown criteria wasn't met.

Lol. Agree.
@'whyd you get two anon'
ReplyDeleteOne to use, one to sell later.
@TTL
I personally think its shitty. Good enough reason?
@ Anon 8
ReplyDeleteMaking a SNES-esque X9 won't classify as giving Megaman a chance...
I'm the anon who said they ordered two; one's for a buddy of mine, one's for me.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous 15:
ReplyDeleteAnd that's only the Mega Man series, which suffered more than other franchises from Capcom recently:

And a little of Nintendo only to compare:

True that a company must make money, but how one expect to make money in a entertainment business if most of the things you do aren't entertaining and you don't care for the customers, specially the fans? (But some people are also very exigent and hard to please. Which is why there are multiple genres like platformer, fighting, RPG, sports, shooter, puzzle, strategy, ... And some mixed too.)
Quoting VixyNyan from RPM:
*Games are creativity.
*Games are ideas formed from your own mind that becomes interactivity for you and the consumer playing said games.
*Games are passionate unified interest between you and anyone else that share your passionate interest.
*Games are art.
*Games are music~ <3
*Games are fun. FUN!!
Games goes WAY beyond business. With the right team and creative mind, you can see that the term "Video Games" offers so much more for developers and for the fanbase.
@Model M: Agreed, that's just taking advantage of nostalgia. To give it a chance, we'd need a proper console release, and everything that comes with it. Last one we got... was what, X8? I don't think command mission really counts, given how different the gameplay is on it from the core games...
ReplyDeletePlus, they'd just throw X10 at us the next year, and by then the nostalgia would have worn off.
Anon 14 are you serious? Saying that's RockMan online art? Dude that art of X is from the MegaMan X collection on GCN/PS2
ReplyDelete@Anon with screw up links
ReplyDeleteNintendo of America ACTUALLY still has a chance to localize the 3 Operation Rainfall games. They are watching Europe to see if they sell well enough/get high enough reviews. Meaning if it doesn't sell, it's Europes fault, not Nintendo of America's.
Legit reason this time folks. No profit, no localization.
Too bad I still have an old DS from when it first came out. I wish someone would make a case for it!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog Protodude, but I've recently realized that it's not as fun to visit because there's no Megaman games to look forward to. :(
ReplyDeleteNot a reflection of you at all! You do a great job coming up with interesting stuff in the dry times. Just sad is all.

Agree. I only used Nintendo as example to compare with Capcom in amount of recent errors as I didn't found many of other companies (although I heard Activision is as bad or worse than Capcom nowadays, but I don't know the details), and those are very small.
Also, as it was released in English in Europe, people can try to import it if it isn't released in NA, which will also help in the sales there. ^_^
The 3DS Mega Man case is already out of stock? Even with a bad art choice and before the Street Fighter and Resident Evil ones? I'm surprised!
ReplyDelete@Anon 18: Finish reading before saying something, anon 14 is obviously being sarcastic. By the way, the Knight Man art is from the Rockman Complete Works version of MM6 to PS1. I wonder if he will also appear in Rockman Online. So far it was revealed that DRN-000 to 008, Air Man, Wood Man, Pharaoh Man, Stone Man, Cloud Man, Enker, Punk, Ballade, and Bass are present.
@ Kips
ReplyDeleteActually, no. I was hoping for an explanation since I see nothing wrong with it so far as "being a protective case" goes. I'll admit, I rarely if ever use cases like this, so I wondered if there was some sort of standard to them.
To be blunt, I also thought that might have been a crack against Zelda more so than the actual case, so I thought I'd inquire.
@ Model M
ReplyDeleteReally? I think it fares a much better chance financially then say legends 3 so they can't make the BS excuse of not enough support.
If the original megaman couldn't get a console release for his last few games *mm9/10/universe* then X has got to be the last shot at making a real console release. That or they come up with something completely fresh which I don't see happening but hey ya never know.
This was actually pretty cool looking until I saw Knight Man. And then realized that the game has NO Mega Man games yet (that aren't rereleases).
ReplyDeletelol...they sold out. But since they only made 200, we can rest assure knowing that like every other "limited edition" piece sold today, they'll just do another print run.
ReplyDeleteLoL someone has one listed on ebay for $99.00 bid or $149.00 buy it now!
ReplyDeleteI think I like it more than the core Mega Man games. Don't "fix it", just give us more, Capcom!
ReplyDeleteI got case 37/200 :D
