Dual Pack Is Budget MMPU/MHX Bundle

Hot on the heels of our original report, Capcom's Christian Svensson has stepped up and confirmed the existence of Mega Man Dual Pack. The product is indeed a budget bundling of Mega Man Powered Up and Maverick Hunter X in a single package, due for release on September 5 for $14.99 US.

I've also scored some additional product details from GameStop associate John: Contrary to early speculations, Dual Pack will not offer additional content for either MMPU or MHX. What's more, I've been informed the games will remain as individual entities. In other words, Powered Up and Maverick Hunter will be on two separate UMDs as opposed to a single disc. Finally, unlike the Japanese Rockman Rockman/Irregular Hunter X Value Pack (pictured) from a couple years back, Dual Pack will not ship alongside a bonus soundtrack.

Dual Pack is essentially a repacking of two great titles; there's nothing fancy to it. The product is intended for PSP owners who've yet to play the games. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that objective, but if you were expecting more, I'm sorry to say this is not that product. In any case, Dual Pack gives the two games another chance to shine at market. Numbers talk, of course. If it sells well enough, perhaps Capcom will finally get around to cooking up those sequels...

Thanks for the info Sven and John!

  2. Not bad. I already have my copies, but this is a good opportunity for those who doesn't have it, and another outlet to prove to Capcom that Mega Man is still relevant.

Yes, only for them to get canceled midway through development, like Universe and Legends 3. I was no fan of the former, but still.

  4. No bonus soundtrack? Boo-urns.

Was it on one disc for the Japan region release of the set? From what I remember MHX was 400MB. I don't remember what MMPU was. It's probably very doable, but it'd require coding a game select screen. If they use poor sales of this as an excuse for not developing a game I'm gonna have to choke a bitch. I already bought MHX.

  6. So no "transfaring" then? Lame.

  7. Kinda unfortunate, seeing how I already own both games back when they were first released.

You know what I've been looking for like crazy? That Megaman SF3 DSi pack thing.

I missed out on it during the time it got released and can't find it ANYWHERE anymore. :/

  8. I know we're supposed to be supporting the Megaman series right now...but I don't really want two repackaged games. Especially since I'm not really a fan of the X series...*prepares for flaming*

Well, I guess it is better than nothing, even though I don't see the sale numbers on this getting high at all.

  9. While I admit I am interested for the sheer fact that my Mega Man interest has spiked only recently and I haven't played either (in my defense, I don't own a PSP, but would be willing to get one for these titles and importing the Dash games) I can't help but once again find supporting Capcom's new found "importance" of Mega Man falling into re-releases and merchandise somewhat disconcerting.

Yeah, it sends them the message that Mega Man is still popular, but does that translate into more games or more ports/re-releases and t-shirts/comics/toys/etc?

  10. Oh Capcom. You were once mighty.

  11. I just waanna play Megaman Legends 3, period!

@Mike: Epic lol, a good blast from the past of the Simpsons.

@Anonymous: You suck and I let you know that. X forever!

  12. I've always wanted these two games.
I might have to get this sometime. :P

    That's Konami.

  14. I don't see how any worthy sequels would get approved if the only way the titles sell is with an average price of $7.50 each. I also have to seriously question the timing; we all know the PS Vita isn't going to play UMDs.

IMHO somebody needs to look more to quality than the viability of the brand name. Powered Up and MHX were both outstanding concepts, but they could have been implemented better. The earlier especially. Powered Up in itself was a massively ambitious game, but it utterly failed to capture the essence of the game it was supposed to be remaking. Was quite possibly one of the worst-balanced Mega Man games, as well (which is saying an awful lot coming from someone who loves X6). MHX almost nailed it, except that some idiot decided to nerf the buster upgrade, and the character models were ugly as hell. Still great to play as Vile, though, not to mention TDoS

  15. I already have both games, and beaten them (mostly). Man...

  16. It also would have REALLY helped if Capcom decided to sell both games on the PS3 or X-Box 360 or even the PS2 instead of the PSP at the time since no-one really had that thing when both games were released.

  17. "'So no "transfaring" then? Lame.'

Fine, then whatever the Capcom equivalent of that is. Why hasn't the game industry picked up on this idea sooner? It's a no-brainer.

  18. capcom is never going to make another sequel to either of these games, they originally promised sequels to both games way back when they were released and even went as far as to get fan input on sites like megaman network.

only to end up scrapping the ideas completely, this was also when they were going to make megaman x collection have remixed soundtracks and new voice acting but that got scrapped too.

so hoping for capcom to make a sequel is like hoping for them to make a megaman x9, it won't happen since their notorious for canceling games. I mean look what they did with legends 3.

  19. Awesome games. If you haven't played them and you have a PSP, you have no excuse not to pick this up. ;)

  20. I feel like we're getting stuck between a rock and a hard place right now. I mean, if we buy the game, we're supporting rehashing of the Megaman series (aka more milking, as Capcom has graciously done before). If we don't buy the game, we don't support Megaman, and Capcom will believe we don't care about the franchise anymore.

Business. They're doing it (kinda) right.

  21. You can just SMELL the "interest gauging" with these two. Whenever capcom re-releases megaman games that did not do well its for 2 reasons.

    1. rake in some cash from the franchise fans who will eat it up
    &
    2. check for renewed interest to see if they could possibly continue it, thus earning more cash from said franchise fans.

this is definitely more the latter you can tell- especially after the recent issue with Legends 3, a game people wanted, not being continued. So they are taking ANOTHER game(s) people wanted to see continued, and testing to see if there is any interest.

    So they can cancel it.

Capcom will NEVER shake that black mark off its record again sadly, but they can sure try.

  22. And big surprise, it's a Toned Down version of what the Japanese got... I'd scream louder, but I already have those two games individually, so I wouldn't have gotten this thing anyways.

But yeah... that's modern Capcom for you, the King of Repackaging.

  23. @Flame
If it is interest gauging, I kinda feel bad for buying it earlier. If I knew they were gonna trash the series and say it didn't sell well, I would have waited until now and bought it when it seemed to matter more.

  24. I have to say, this reissue is a bit dissappointing. capcom should have translated and released the megaman legends 1 & 2 double pack they released in japan a few years back instead.

most fans that were interested in mmpu and mhx most likely already have the original releases, also they are still pretty easy to find so its not like they were ever really hard to find in the first place.

instead of reissuing this as a double pack how about releasing both as playable ps3 games on the psn with upgraded graphics? it won't happen though, this is capcom were talking about. they are the kings of rehashing and cancelling games in general.

  25. I have an idea Capcom. Why don't you put the damn things on the 3DS since for the past 10 years you've slowly forced Megaman fans onto Nintendo consoles AND you cancelled Legends 3 on the 3DS owners. With the increased power of the system and two screens, it would make for a very interesting port.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Or why doesn't Capcom put the two games on consoles that EVERYONE owns?!?
