"It would be Mega Man Legends 3," exclaimed Matsuyama in a Siliconera interview. "I really like the series!"
CyberConnect2 does what Capcom don't. Well, hopefully. For the uninformed, CyberConnect2 are currently developing Asura's Wrath, a title due to be published by Capcom later this year. CC2 has previously expressed an interest in enriching their involvement with Capcom, and just coming off of the Mega Man Legends-inspired Solatorobo: Red The Hunter, I'd say we can look to them for hope.
Siliconera, however, raises an interesting point: if Legends 3 goes to CC2, it will lack most if not all of the creative team behind Legends 1, 2 and Capcom's ill-fated Legends 3. If this be the case, would YOU still support the game?
Sound off in the comments. Thanks to everyone who sent this in (you know who you are!)
Considering Solatorobo's atmosphere felt like it could be a MML game, as did tail concerto's, I wouldn't mind. CC2 does good work.
ReplyDeleteSeeing how CC2 has done good game after good game, I have no fear if they actually went through with it.
ReplyDeleteI don't think so. Capcom is the only one who knows how to make a Mega Man game.
ReplyDeleteIt'd be nice to have the same dev team behind L1 and 2, but since Capcom won't get MM off the moon, I think it'd be nice to turn to someone who will.
ReplyDeleteHiroshi Matsuyama??? He likes to work on MML3 which has been cancelled? Then there is a hope! Make it happen and you'll be our savior, Hiroshi Matsuyama!
ReplyDeleteTake that, Capcom!
I wonder if they'd try to get some help from the original development team. Even just a little, if nothing else.
ReplyDeleteGood, good. I guess there is some hope, after all.
ReplyDeleteI would love if they did this, but only if they kept in the winners of the devroom contests.
ReplyDeleteRemarkable games have been made by unlikely sources before.
ReplyDeleteCapcom actually brought us four Zelda games, and Retro Studios have made the Metroid Prime Trilogy, and Donkey Kong Country returns.
Companies passionate about the franchises they seek to resurrect like Retro Studios have the power to do things right, and I'm confident that CC2 could pull this off.
I want the original people.
ReplyDeleteNo. Capcom owes us a game made by THEM. they OWE us this. they can't just pass it off to another developer
ReplyDeleteI don't know the company, but if they do good work, and are fans of Legends, then I'm okay with it! They may even be as passionate as we are!
ReplyDeleteI'd support it. Tail Concerto was pretty good!
ReplyDeletePONYDUDE!
ReplyDeleteI would very much still support the game, being a long-time fan of the .hack series I believe the CC2 team could do it justice even with a slightly different style.
ReplyDeleteMy quick answer is YES, 'dude.
ReplyDeleteIt would be interesting for Capcom to let someone other than Inti Creates play with the franchise, just like Nintendo has been doing with Retro Studios(Prime and DK), Team ninja(Other M which was good when ye got past the character stuff...) and Square Enix(MARIO). In fact Nintendo's let Capcom play with Zelda TWICE. I think Capcom can let Megaman out to play, don;t you? ;)
ReplyDeleteOf course!
ReplyDeleteAs long as it actually gets made with the quality it deserves.
ReplyDeleteAnd, besides. I'd like to see a fresh take on a MegaMan game.
However, this seesms to be a moot point. I doubt highly Capcom will allow CC2 to continue the development.
I would support. Heck, I'd support them to freaking death
ReplyDeleteCyberConnect2 is a developer I follow and respect, and I admire their dedication to integrity and maintaining that within a game's core. I would wholeheartedly support CyberConnect2 developing Legends 3, and I firmly believe that they will do everything possible to interact with the Legends team and the fans to ensure a quality product that will be worth the over-ten-year wait.
ReplyDeleteAnother possibility, one that I would prefer, would be the cooperative efforts of the Legends team and CC2. That way the Legends team can continue their work and there would be even more resources available to make the Legend continue....
If you want to sweeten the pot, throw Inafune-san's Comcept into the mix.
CC2 alone developing L3? Why not?
ReplyDeleteCC2 in collaboration with L3's Devteam? That would be even better.
CC2 + L3 Devteam + Comcept? Genious. That might just clean Capcom's name if they allow for such an awe-inspiring, NEIGH, orgasm inducing combination of creative power. It just might.
I cannot believe what I'm hearing from some people.
ReplyDeleteCyberConnect2 is an incredible developer who really know how to create a good and charming game. The entire time I played Solatorobo I was reminded of Mega man Legends. It has freaking sky pirates!
These guys know how to make incredibly fun and awesome games. And I honestly can't think of a better team suited to take over the legends 3 job. Well, Wayforward maybe, but that's irrelevant.
I would totally support these guys and trust them to create a sequel worthy of Legends fame.
Protodude, how did it go with your friend to get 100000 strong more publicty?
ReplyDeleteI'm on board. CC2 can do no wrong.
ReplyDelete@HENRCAST:
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard anything back from him yet. Unusual, though; he's pretty quick to reply.
I agree with Mr. Hearns. While having a completely new team developing it would leave some unsure, having a collaboration (or at least working with the same input level and original data) with the original Legends 3 devteam would be the best idea.
ReplyDeleteKnowing Capcom THESE days, though, I wouldn't be surprised if they actively tried to DENY CC2 the opportunity to do what Capcan't (or won't).
If nothing else, it's possible they could use the material already present, and build from there.
ReplyDeleteTo hear on my birthday that the candle of hope for MML3 is still faintly flickering makes my day. =D
ReplyDeleteA chance for MML3 to be revived?
ReplyDeleteSure! I support this idea. ;P
Three words:
ReplyDelete"Duke Nukem Forever."
Just something to think about. ;3
I've heard Solatrobo was very close in spirit to a Legends game. If they didn't start from scratch, and all development materials were given to CC2? I wouldn't mind. I think they would give it the care it deserves. Bonus points if they take over the DevRooms as well.
ReplyDeleteThey made Tail Concerto,right?
ReplyDeleteThe atmosphere in that game was kinda similar to the Legends series.I approve it!
And as some people already said here, using the material already present, having a colaboration with the original Legends 3 devteam and usng the concepts of the winners would be great,no like a explosion of emotions that spring from vitality that comes from the happiness variety.
By the way Protodude, what is this "Ponydude" I keep seeing around? are you a MLP fan? xD
@Eternallight:
ReplyDeleteNot at all. In a previous post, I mistakenly used "neigh" in place of "nay."
Poneydude. Neigh.
@Eternallight
ReplyDeleteHe says "neigh" instead of "nay". So, Ponydude.
@ Joseph Collins: Y U NO NICE TO ME?
ReplyDeleteI'm 100% behind CyberConnect2 doing this. LOL @ all the "Capcom or nothing" folks. You can enjoy your nothing while the rest of us enjoy something made by a perfectly sound and creative development house.
Obviously the main crew couldn't perform to expectations, so I say give someone else a shot, who knows. Give the fans something else to whine about that "boo, we're getting Legends 3, but it's not by the original creators. BAAAAAAW".
ReplyDeleteUgh, the MM fans are starting to sound just as childish and whiny as the Sonic fans. :| There's a chance it COULD still be made and we're out crying about the creative team? Seriously?
See Capcom? Let someone else take the risk of development, you get royalties if it does do well, and if it doesn't then there's no loss.
ReplyDeleteThere are now no excuses remaining.
If Cyberconnect would actually bring the game to completion. Then I'd totally give them the chance. I want to see this game out, and I would be willing to take the risk with CyberConnect2 for it.
ReplyDeleteHeh, sorry for pointing out the neigh thing earlier, Protodude.
ReplyDeleteUnless of course, you don't mind Ponydude. In that case, you're welcome.
Mike: Just join the group then hide it on your wall. no one will know.
ReplyDeleteI'd love for CC2 to develop it! It seems like it was fated all along, Tail Concerto and Solatorobo are basically MML but with furries :3
ReplyDeleteIT'S SOMETHING!
ReplyDelete*insert meme here*
I think I would want the creative team to be there.. I want to make sure what we get is what was planned for the story 11 years ago. Any chance he can bring over some of the creative team? Just borrow them from capcom cause it's not like they're being used at the moment also isn't P-Head freelance right now? So we'd have him.
ReplyDeletethe devteam isnt the only team that can make a MML game.
ReplyDeleteI say give it to them since they WANT to do it.
I've never played a CC2 game, only read about 'em, but if they want to finish MML3, they have my support.
ReplyDeleteNot sure if anyone heard about this.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.eventhubs.com/news/2011/jul/22/mega-man-gene-god-hand-were-final-umvc3-character-pool/
I would love someone to save the project, but Capcom is the only one to get it right everytime. :(
ReplyDeleteWhy should we settle for shit when we were offered gold?
ReplyDeleteCC2 would be a wonderful developer if Capcom drops the literal ball on this one. They've created wonderful games in the past and have listened to fans before in which characters fans wanted to see pop up in what looks to be .hack final game, .hack//Link. (Considering that they brought over 100 characters from .hack's many universes, that's a feat indeed!)
ReplyDeleteIf there was ever a group to do this game, I'd recommend them without a second thought!
This actually came up in conversation on the "Ask Capcom" segment on the stream from SDCC today, Sven hadn't heard that CC2 were interested & mentioned that they were also at the show so he may speak to them later.... whether he does or not remains to be seen... but at least there mayyyybe a hope for MML3 yet..
ReplyDelete@undamned
ReplyDeleteWell, I said this because Gearbox openly admitted that Duke Nukem Forever was rushed and whatnot... The way I figure it, if CC2 were to announce that they were taking over, the vicious horde of Mega Man Legends fans would pressure them into releasing a game that was largely unimpressive, in the eyes of said fans. :B
I'd support the game if they collaborate with the original dev team. I see no reason why they couldn't do that and if I were a part of the dev team, I would try to find a job at CC2. At least I wouldn't fully be controlled by Capcom.
ReplyDeleteI would absolutely support it. I love CyberConnect2, I've been a huge fan of .hack since the original quadrilogy. I would support them making any Megaman game.
ReplyDeleteBullocks. Cmon was each and every one of us really going to buy Legends 3 when it came out? Admit it, I wasn’t going to buy it. I really don’t even care if we get it. It was wrong for Capcom to hype it like they did, but really. I bet even fewer of us was going to buy Megaman Universe. 3DS is a crap platform to release anything big on it at the moment, and Megaman Universe was just a Megaman 2 rehash with character building and level editing. Wow, I totally wanted that….
ReplyDeleteNo, Archie’s comic book series is not going to be canceled. No, Capcom isn’t killing Mega Man. I bet the blue bomber himself is laughing at everyone’s pessimistic speculation. You like to think that Capcom lied, but they’re right. there wasn’t enough interest to risk funds on a cult classic exclusively on a handheld console that didn’t sell well! Not everyone who did buy a 3DS bought it solely for that game! For those that did, deal with it and wait for other games to play! What if they said “oh well, make it anyway”, it flops, and they have no funds to make another game for megaman? Then we’d be having the same overreacting at a later point in time.
“WAAAH! CAPCOM HATES MEGAMAN!” No, you hate Megaman. Give the blue bomber a break from fighting every year in one form or another! Capcom does not have to milk the franchise cow every year for you. Let it graze! Save some milk in the carton because once it's gone, capcom's not going to go shopping for a while!
You… You… DOUBLE MAVERICKS!
It depends, I mean, if the music keeps being Legends-ish and they keep Barret. I'm bought.
ReplyDeleteHi
ReplyDeleteNot really releted to the post, but I believe you should check this
http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=4407
Pretty interesting, can Megaman Legends 3 cancelation really made so many people hate Capcom? or it's just a coincedence?
CC2 did an X-Cellent job with .hack//G.U. ^_^
ReplyDeleteHmmm... This could get really interesting... but a very GOOD thing, too! If CC2 goes through with it, MML3 just might be in good hands! :D
Un, Darxthedinosaur...
ReplyDelete...how does releasing the first Mega Man Legends game in a decade count as 'milking' the franchise? Your argument makes no sense.
If it were just cancelling MML3 or just MM Universe, I wouldn't think Capcom didn't care about MM. But they hyped both and cancelled both. Didn't reven release the preview for Legends 3. They ignored polls that told them most people wanted a MM in MVC3.
ReplyDeleteI think it'd pretty fair to say they just don't care about MM.
@Darxthedinosaur:
ReplyDeleteWow, trolling much? Regardless of whether anything you said was true or not, using a tone like that at a time when emotions are still running high over the whole situation is a really bad idea. Just so you know.
---
As far as the original news post, I for one would be willing to see the project completed no matter who was behind the development.
...Okay, besides Inticreates, let's not get TOO desperate all of a sudden.
To those who say that Capcom "owes" us this game: as much as I hate to say it, no they don't. And I don't think I'd want Capcom to push the game through development if they canned it at the very first opportunity. To me that proves that, between Legends 3 and Universe, they weren't remotely interested in keeping Inafune's projects going after he left the company. And things must have been extremely bad for him to quit (due to hating the work environment) so soon after announcing both those projects.
It's almost like Sega and Capcom have completely traded business practices over the past several years.
@Krev: He wasn't talking about the "Legends cow" specifically.
ReplyDeleteCall me when someone salvages Mega Man Universe.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't really support it, given that everything would be far too different from Legends 1, 2... and the stuff that the fans helped with would be ignored completely.
ReplyDeleteBut that's just me.
CC2? Hiroshi Matsuyama?? Takes place to work on MML3???
ReplyDeleteHaven't played .Hack series but heard its the good game...played Tails Concerto and loved the scenarios, and looking forward to play Solatorobo if I purchase the game...did pretty good achievements on developing Naruto games...
You know what? I'd say the Messiah have arrived from the heavens and saved MML from the demonish and damned Capcom!! I don't know if this info's true or not, but I'll keep my eyes open and look forward for it.
Professor Megaman said...
ReplyDeleteCall me when someone salvages Mega Man Universe.
At the risk of upsetting a certain insane simian... Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes. Not to say that I lack interest in Rockman DASH 3, of course, but still. X3
Professor Megaman "Call me when someone salvages Mega Man Universe."
ReplyDeleteSure, I'll call you just as soon as the Translated Operate Shooting Star comes stateside.
@Joseph Collins:
ReplyDeleteIt's nothing for me to get upset over, since the chances of Mega Man Universe seeing the light of day are pretty slim. And besides, even if it does, I wouldn't flip out on anybody for supporting that game's revival. I just simply wouldn't buy it, it's as simple as that.
oh god i would fucking love for universe to be revived.
ReplyDeletetoo bad it will never happen...
I'd rather CC2 not work on it. I admire the intent and I would support it if that were the case, but I'd much prefer the original team to work on it.
ReplyDeleteIf it's anyone I'd like to give Mega Man a try, it'd be Arcs System Works (or, more specifically, the people behind Hard Corps Uprising).
I don't think so because without a creator there is no Megaman. I don't want Capcom without a creator or a creator of his own business should adopt Megaman and starting to work on it.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't mind another company making Mega Man Legends 3.
ReplyDeleteHOWEVER, I wouldn't want them to start completely over from scratch and ignore the original version of Legends 3. They could change the gameplay and some details, but it would be strange if they dropped the new characters and setting that has already been developed.
I think it's better that it would be CC2. They're good. Plus, they would probably push through with it and not just leave fangs hanging.
ReplyDeleteDear CC2, forget your Mega Man Dreams, make another .Hack! XO
ReplyDeleteAlthough, if they do make it as addicting as .Hack, that could be fun. :D
Oh, on a side note, I would love for CC2 to make this game, have it succeed majorly, and then rub it in Capcom's face! :p
ReplyDeleteYes If they make the game I Well support it. I have loved the Mega Man Games ever sense I was 5.
ReplyDeleteMegaman right now seems like a big problem and heavy thing on Capcom,
ReplyDeleteand on the other side..
mario fans just sleeping and nintendo making Tons of games
there 13 mario game made between 2011 - 2013
and 0 megaman games from 4 or 3 years ago,
.. megaman was born in the wrong place ..
