Thanks to the efforts of Junkershvn and Henger83, we have ourselves some exceptional footage of a very early build of Rockman 8. Despite being only two stages in length, the build contains a wide array of differences from the final retail version including unused music, graphics and gameplay mechanics.
I'm currently attempting to see if we can release this build publicly. If it's a-go, I'll provide a direct download link to the .iso in this post (hopefully, for both builds). Once made public, perhaps we can begin ripping the unused music, sprites and any other hidden assets that might be buried within the code.
In the meantime, keep checking back on Henger83's YouTube Channel where more footage is expected surface.
UPDATE: Rockman 8 Beta V1 download: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=6ZGISZMK
Inside this file, the .iso, ripped unused tracks and more. If you find anything of interest, e-mail me!
More updates as they come!
Very interesting. :) Can't wait for someone to rip those early sprites and whatnot!
ReplyDeleteGod, this guy sounds so depressed. I hope he doesn't off himself before he posts the next video (or at all, obviously). o_o
ReplyDeleteAnyway, neat. Mega Man's running animation is also slightly different (and better, in my opinion)... that's one thing he didn't mention.
It's amazing how great Mega Man 8 looks like it could have been from this early beta. If I saw this back in the '90s before Mega Man 8 had come out, I would have been totally psyched for it. It's crazy how disappointing it turned out to be, especially after watching this.
I'm guessing from the window border that this is an emulator playing it.
ReplyDeleteAny chance of an xxxp version? Youtube seems to trash the encode quality on anything lower than 480p.
Yum...lots of beta music goodness! Can't wait to get a hold of them if they become released. =)
ReplyDeleteIs it me, or the position of some stages in the globe from the stage select screen are different?
ReplyDeleteDude. Seriously. If you're not going to dump the ISO before you record a video, the very least you could do is NOT TALK or use some annotations. It's such a bummer when you're trying to listen to the music.

ReplyDeleteInteresting. I can't wait to see the video of the second beta.
ReplyDeleteFor the record, Tanks, that's not PD talking.
ReplyDelete*cries* This thing has been taunting me for YEARS now! I want this worse than I've ever wanted anything before in my life! But... I guess I'll take this. Until JunkerHnv decides to release the thing out into the general public, in any case.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I really want the beta music! T_T

ReplyDeleteYay! I'm in the minority of people who loved MegaMan 8 as their favorite MM game, so this is great for me. Seeing the classic MM "grow up" into 32bit, with voice acting and a more meaningful story... it was very influential to me. Wish that kept happening instead of going back to 8bit...
ReplyDeleteI'd love a rip of the music, though it doesn't sound better than the final version to me (definitely not the intro stage music). Actually, nothing in this Beta seems flat-out better to me than in the final version. Still neat though. Would be nice as bonus levels to the original :)
This is awesome! I really hope something comes of this. Protodude, if he's looking for money to dump it (if he paid a lot for the disc). Let me know and I'm sure myself and others in the community might be willing to chip in, or I'd also be willing to buy the builds off of him and dump it for the community for free.

@Skaarg:
ReplyDeleteNo need for cash; it's almost a done deal!
Actually, from what I was told, Junkershvn was once a member of the press and had MM8 preview builds in his possession for a while. Hasn't been until recently he was willing to rip the image and allow this footage to bubble up.
@Protodude
ReplyDeleteGreat to hear! Thanks for for getting this deal done! I can't wait to start tearing it apart to see what leftovers there are. Hopefully it'll be possible to access some other levels!
Any chance he has anything for X4 since it was kind of around the same time?
I hope if the image gets released, we'll get some nice HQ PSF rips.
