"There was a curious reel of more than a dozen old-school games, including Mega Man 2, Castlevania, Urban Champion, Kid Icarus, Yoshi's Island, Smash Ping Pong, Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros., Tennis, The Legend of Zelda, Metroid and Mystery of Murasame Castle.... I asked Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime what to make of all these old-school remakes. Were they all going to be games on the 3DS? Yes, he said, but he cautioned me not to think of them as remakes. Echoing comments by Nintendo's head developer, Shigeru Miyamoto from a roundtable earlier in the week, Fils-Aime said these games were potentially getting more than just ported over. Miyamoto had talked about trying new features in the games that would take advantage of the 3DS' capabilities."
Sounds to me like this is the 3DS' version of Wii's Virtual Console...but in 3D, and then some. Hoping to get more details on this soon. Check out the full story over at Kotaku.
Thanks, John Smith.
Ooh, the EXACT same overrated game with different visuals! Big whoop.
ReplyDeleteHot damn, MM2 is my favorite of the NES games. This should be awesome.
ReplyDeleteCan the 3DS get any better?
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, Horatio, but this is just too awesome for a one-liner.
ReplyDeleteYEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
Ooh, the EXACT same person repeatedly harping on a 20 year-old game that some people happened to enjoy. Big whoop.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Krazy. MegaMan 2 is getting freakin' tired...I bet the only 3D effect will be visually separating the different layers.
ReplyDeleteIt is remained to be seen.
ReplyDeleteHonestly.
ReplyDeleteEveryone and their mom has already played the living shit out of MegaMan 2.
WE DON'T NEED TO PLAY IT AGAIN!
Oh boy. Another Mega Man 2. Nothing new.
ReplyDeleteSigh... I guess it had to happen eventually. Mega man has been running for 22 years now; Capcom was bound to run out of ideas sooner or later.
And that, right there, is the big elephant in the corner.
ReplyDeleteMovies, video games, blah. What makes 3D perspective amazing isn't the ZOMG-IT'S-FLOATING-IN-THE-AIR factor. That layers thing you mentioned.
It's the ZOMG-IT'S-COMING-RIGHT-AT-ME factor. The enemies and scenery swapping between layers on the fly.
I've played Mega Man 2-- aaaaaaaaand I can't really think up much a reason to care more about it than any other Mega Man game. Might be a result of first playing it, like... five hours ago. Heh.
But I think it'll be worth a buy, just to see enemies zooming out of the background to the foreground. Just to see how the 3DS handles this layer swapping business, and see how Capcom handles it.
Hmmmmm, eh?
I'm totally on Team Buzzkill though if this turns into Mega Man Powered Up 2 3D. I'd like to pretend I'm not cute and fluffy on the inside. In public.
...wait.
REMAKE! AWRAGHT!!!
ReplyDeleteThis will be pwn all.
KM and MM, if you don't have anything useful to say, bog off.
Why 2? What happened to 1?
ReplyDeleteUnless they're "remaking" it to be Power up 2?
But yeah, yawn. :\ I was hoping Capcom would do something awesome for E3 for us.
Hmmm... I got my hopes up for a moment because I assumed this was about MMPU2 finally getting made. Though, ya, on that note, I'd like to say that the 3DS really would be the best place to make MMPU games.
ReplyDeleteI agree with those guys who say that megaman 2 is way overrated, i am tired of megaman 2, megaman 3 was a lot better.
ReplyDeleteMega Man 2? Meh. It's a great game and all, but I wish they'd show Mega Man 3 some love. Or... They could at least give us Mega Man Powered Up 2 in 3D.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous #6 and womanizer:
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU. Finally, there are more people, other than myself (and the IGN editor who wrote the "In Defense of Mega Man 10" article) who realize that Mega Man 3 is definitely the superior game. It had more stages, better level designs, as well as a weakness cycle where almost the ENTIRE CAST is't weak against the same weapon. Honestly, just about every boss in Mega Man 2 is weak against the Quick Boomerang and/or Metal Blade (including Metal Man, himself).
@The elephant and Tcat:
I certainly HOPE that's the case. Inafune DID, at one point, say that Mega Man: Powered Up 2 had a strong chance of happening, despite the low sales of the first game. If that's what this is, then it looks like they're going for a system that the game is bound to sell on, rather than something like the PSP. I'm not saying that I have anything against the PSP, but the 3DS is definitely a better choice. If this turns out to be the Powered Up sequel we've been waiting for, then I'm willing to put my Mega Man 2 bias aside and give it a shot. If it's nothing more than the exact same game with 3D visuals/effects, then I couldn't care less.
If it's not powered up 2, it can be VERY BAD! I want play with Clashman =(
ReplyDeleteI would have been normally glad about this news, but why does it has to be always 2? I'm seriously thinking it's way too overrated.
ReplyDeleteI hope they'll release all of them on one game card. No way am I buying a 3DS remake of just Mega Man 2.
ReplyDeleteI see why people bash on this concept, but even if it is regular Mega Man 2 than of it sells, maybe we will see Mega Man 3 in the future, or a Mega Man 11, heck, maybe even a Mega Man X game!! In 3D!!
ReplyDeleteRockMan 2
ReplyDeleteIN THREEEEEE DEEEEEEE
I like 3, but this is good too. Not necessarily because it's in ZOMG 3D but because now I can play an 8-bit RockMan game on a portable system. They need to do something about rereleasting those GB games again.
Oh boy! I didn't grow up with MM2, but I think it's still a great game. I'd love to carry it around with me.
ReplyDeleteMega Man Powered Up 2 and Maverick Hunter X2, or not interested. I like MM2, but it was already released in Wily Wars, Complete Works, Anniversary Collection, WiiWare and cellphone. At least give it all the extras from Complete Works.
ReplyDeleteHeh, so there's people praising Mega Man 3, eh? That's cool. It always was my favorite and, even if it's unfinished (from what I've heard), it's still above and beyond Mega Man 2, in my humble opinion.
ReplyDeleteI hope they bring the MMPU series to 3DS and that it proves to be a success... because I'd really love to see what an MMPU3 would be like.
If it's not an original, a remake, or a port, then what is it? >_>
ReplyDeleteNothing special, it's the same game with some 3D effects. Wily Wars is a better graphical enhancement thatn this. XD
ReplyDelete1) @Krazy Monkey: Stop acting like Mega Man 3 being the better game is fact.
ReplyDelete2) I'm fairly certain that I read somewhere that all the games were on a single cartridge. Even if I'm wrong, it seems pretty logical, no?
3) Obviously this isn't as spectacular as some of the other games on the 3DS. But I think that it's still a neat little thing.
@TAG:
ReplyDeleteI never said it was a fact, I'm just saying that I think it deserves a lot more recognition than it gets.
Hey Protodude, a bit off topic, but do you know what the World Hobby Fair schedule is like?
ReplyDeleteDid it just end with no mention of a new Rockman game, or is it still ongoing? If the latter, when does the fair end?
Tomorrow is the last day of the show.
ReplyDeleteSimply put, there's been no announcements according to 2ch. No new game(s), nothing. Still, there's one day left. I wouldn't get your hopes up, though.
They need to come up w/ some way to accurately showcase the 3D graphics online, like using a flash animation or something....
ReplyDeleteI'm SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Gonna buy this when it comes out!
ReplyDeleteLot of remake game in N3DS these could be fantastic games
ReplyDeleteor they should just make megaman powered up 2
