Capcom USA has filed a trademark that may offer a peek at a future, unannounced Mega Man game. On April 21st, the company registered the title "Mega Man Universe" over at the U.S Patent and Trademark Offices:
The news comes a day after Capcom's community manager Seth Killian hinted that a 'rad' Mega Man concept was in the works. Perhaps Mega Man Universe is just that?
[Mega Man Universe Sounds Like Capcom's Next Mega Man Project] thanks, Colin
Oh, PLEASE don't let this be another fighter game.....
ReplyDeleteI get a feeling it might be a fighter game,or one big mash collection of the games, due to its name..Or pure Cross Overs..Imagine Wily,Sigma,Weil,Albert,Juno,WWW and Dealer all coming into one game with all Mega Men dealing with them..that'll be one big mess
ReplyDeleteBah, just as I thought... ANOTHER crappy series. I knew all along that this is what Inafune meant during the 22nd Anniversary special, when he said that he wanted to do something "completely different" with Mega Man before he creates Mega Man X9.
ReplyDeleteWhat is it with this alternate universe crossovers these day, they seem to pop up everywhere. that is if this is a srossover thing. I ope its not i fighter, they can put mm characters in the new c vs m game. that would be more profitble and if they got look out for a new mm series pls let it be something mature, even mor so than X and legends was(in some places), it doesent have to be a new unisverse thought but i reengineard mm with an adult take would really apael to me. thought somewere in my suconsius there is someone whispering mml 3 =)
ReplyDeleteI would not object a fighter game... though I still hope for something better. I don't know what you people have against them, I would totally play it. It would make up for TvC being only on Wii... a system I have no interest in, despite that Zero plays like a metallic God of Death in that game.
ReplyDeleteI hope they use the same model and engine.
Please don't let this be a MMO. PLEASE.
ReplyDeleteOh...A new serie after Star Force? "rockman in space"?.....
ReplyDeleteI hope a new Rockman with Exe gameplay :/
I really doubt "Universe" is meant to be taken as literally the universe outside of Earth (i.e., space). Mega Man is a franchise comprised of 7 different "universes." It's obviously some kind of crossover, which is WAY overdue.
ReplyDeleteIt's the Megaman Legends MMORPG that I said should be made!
ReplyDeleteWe can all be diggers now!
Megaman Universe sounds pretty much of a crossover, but since it´s something "rad" according to seth (why i can´t stop thinking about SETH ROGEN when i read this name? maybe is it because his arguments sound as hilarious as the comedian´s?), i guess it´s another mutation from the pokeman.exe saga; you know, this cow still has milk.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking about a 2d adventure game gathering all characters from previous sagas, it´s kinda stupid though.
If this is another entry in the EXE/Star Force series then I'll be sorely disappointed.
ReplyDeleteSadly, this sounds like a Scramble Battle-esque crossover fighter. Not at all what I wanted, but... eh, I'll take what I can get, I guess.
ReplyDeleteAs long as it isn't an MMO. Please, PLEASE don't let it be an MMO. I hate MMOs with a burning passion... a Mega Man MMO would just ruin the franchise's integrity (or what integrity it has left).
I suppose it could also be a new series entirely. Maybe the next series in the Battle Network > Star Force timeline? I'd be okay with that, actually, as we're about due for one of those. I don't think that's what this is, though, because Japan usually gets word of new hobby games WAY before the US does (hell, Japan usually just gets each new one before they even come out here).
Yeah... because we're finding out about it in the US trademark filings first, I'm going to say it's not an EXE/SF game or sequel, and more likely a crossover fighter or crossover game of some sort. Meh. It'll be what it is, I guess. I REALLY hope I'm wrong.
Sounds like the name of a MMO or fighting game, but they'd never go through that kind of effort for Megaman.
ReplyDelete@kotipeltox: "I was thinking about a 2d adventure game gathering all characters from previous sagas, it´s kinda stupid though."
ReplyDeleteFunny that you mention that. I had been tossing around an idea similar to that back in October, over at Capcom Unity. It wasn't until Feburary that I decided to elaborate on it, on a different forum.
http://s6.zetaboards.com/The_Rockman_EXE_Zone/topic/8617648/1/
But I don't expect Capcom to do anything as thorough as this, as it might require way too much effort.
I thought a Megaman fighting game would be so cool years ago when I saw the Power Fighters online. Then I played it and it was cool for about 15 minutes.....Please Capcom, don't do a fighter. Nothing against fighters, but fans of Megaman games are not necessarily fans of fighters.
ReplyDeleteNow, on a different topic, I wonder if they're possibly renaming the Megaman Legends series to Megaman Universe?
Maybe it'll be a mixed perspective adventure game like Super Adventure Rockman or a metroidvania game that expounds on the Megaman Zero type of level design. Maybe it's a brand new series, maybe it's a remastered compilation of the Gameboy games. Who knows!
ReplyDeletei agree with the other posters on the hope that it is not an MMO. Good lord I'd lose a lot of respect for Capcom right away. Fingers crossed until we learn more.
Well Capcom, reading the comments here, I see now that you really can't please anyone. All they'll do is whine. If it's another fighter, I hope it's Megaman-only AND on the Wii. That console needs a bit more love with good games. If it's an MMO, at least try to make it good... If it's a new EXE/StarForce series, make it good. Change the main world view a bit. Up the graphics. If it's a completely new MEgaman series, make it good.
ReplyDeleteAnd for the love of all that is decent, give us another ZX or Star Force game!
Wow, Megaman like Metroid or Castlevania would be awesome! I had never really thought about that before, and it would still flow well given the style of Megaman. In other words, you can still visit the bosses in any order, but you can only access certain places when you get certain items.
ReplyDeleteIt's either a strategy game, a rhythm game, or a educational game. No doubt. XD
ReplyDeleteWell, anything is possible, but I will wait a little more to see.
Brandon, you hit the nail on the head, IMO. Although a crossover in any form would be nice...
ReplyDelete@Hypercoyote
ReplyDeleteIt's called Rockman ZX.
Come on fighting game!
ReplyDeleteFight for everlasting peace Rockman!
I dunno... an MMX MMO where you design and play your own maverick/hunter?! HAEL YES.
ReplyDeleteNot like that's what's happening, but whatever.
Wow, freaking 'a, can't any of you be happy with something? Geez.
ReplyDeleteMega Man Universe? With a name like "Universe", it's not a new EXE/SF.
I'm thinking this is one of two things:
1) That crossover fighter
or
2) Some kind of "collection" game, whether it be actual past games (perhaps this time including the GB games, which might be why we saw the RM Killers) or perhaps a game like MM&B that has a mixture of Robot Masters and characters.
Hm.....the name leaves a lot up for grabs. Could be a series fighter, could be an MMO, could be a new entry in X, Legends, EXE, etc.
ReplyDeleteI think there's a possibility it will be a movie. But, whatever it is, I'm satisfied.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like there'll be some sort of X-over with characters from all 7 Mega Man series coming together, maybe a Smash Bros-esque fighting game.
ReplyDeleteIf fighters,i can easily figure out the Roster
ReplyDeleteClassic - Megaman,Roll,Protoman and Bass
X - X and Zero
Zero - Zero,Four Guardians
ZX - Vent,Ashe,Prometheus and Pandora
EXE - Megaman.exe,Roll.exe,Protoman.exe and Bass.exe
SF - MegaMan, Harp Note and Rogue
Legends - Volnutt and Servbots
As for other ideas,it does seem plausible
A MegaMan Online Game. Case Solved, lol. We can be robots in the Classic World, or Maverick Hunters, or Diggers, or Navis. You never know. Although it really could be the fighter. A "Party Fighter" of sorts might work, you never know. If it's even a fighter at all.
ReplyDeleteAs for people whining, I can't totally disagree with some of them. People ask why we can't just be happy with anything. The answer is very simple: If this becomes something totally redundant, stupid and pointless, why wouldnt anyone be happy with it?
Hopefully Inafune knows what he is doing. I personally think he should continue or finish the damn stories he has already started before immersing himself into something so very "rad". But hey, thats just me. As a MegaMan fan through and through, I look forward to MegaMan Universe.
Seeing as how The MegaMan Network has been using that term to refer to the franchise as a whole, it is very likely this will be a game uniting all the series.
ReplyDelete@HyperSonicEXE:
ReplyDeleteI certainly do hope that it's the latter. A collection of the five Game Boy titles is WAAAAYY overdue.
If this turns to be a Super Smash game, it probably will involve a lot of storyline, It probably won't be released until 2011-2012.
ReplyDeleteYeah... because we're finding out about it in the US trademark filings first
ReplyDeleteI don't think most of the people commenting here are taking that into account. If there isn't going to be a similar trademark filing for Japan, then we already know it's going to suck. Or something lol.
Okay, so it was trademarked as "Mega Man Universe"....thats the US name...but was any trademark filed for the japanese version..."Rockman Something" ...? :S
ReplyDeleteDoesnt sound like something really new...maybe just all previous game on one disc for the us and europe?
Crossover game with each game's mechanics, featuring the DASH, EXE/SSR, and ZX eras, I'd say.
ReplyDeleteJudging by the fact that it's a U.S only copyright at the moment, it wouldn't be anything major untill a Japanese one comes up.
ReplyDeleteWith that being said, I fully think it's a multi-series compilation (Classic, X, Legends) of all the console games for PS3 360.
@Anon talking about the US trademark part:
ReplyDeleteKeep in mind that Nintendo Power, an English magazine, revealed the existence of Mega Man 10 first.
Perhaps this game is much further along than we think (further along to the point where it gets a US trademark), and the 'it's still a concept' part of the statement was probably a lie.
On a side note, I hope the next issue of CoroCoro, Nintendo Power and/or the E3 event have some information on this game. I'm not in the mood to wait half a year until TGS for any info a la Square Enix style.
@Hypercoyote: First thing I though.. "PLEASE NO DISSIDIA MEGA MAN" xD
ReplyDeleteHoly Crap, I had a dream a few months ago about a sequel series to Megaman Starforce called Megaman Universe where there were Quantum Entities that fused with humans instead of EM or EXE entities. They could travel betweens stars and planets instantly, and so had different planets and star systems dedicated to different parts of society, like a food distribution planet, a bank planet, a governmental star system, etc. I then had a dream the next night that it was made into a MMORPG, with nearly an infinite number of customizations. D8 IT WAS SO BEAUTIFUL! 8D Oh, and it was made to integrate with the DS, the Wii, and the computer. And it cost a ton of cash. D8
ReplyDelete...I hope my dream isn't what this is. >_<
After Rockman World, Rockman Universe
ReplyDeleteIf this turns out to be anything like that EXE fusion title I wrote about over on ELB, I'm going to claim royalties. XD
ReplyDelete@ Anon mentioning this:
ReplyDelete"Okay, so it was trademarked as "Mega Man Universe"....thats the US name...but was any trademark filed for the japanese version..."Rockman Something" ...? :S"
I've been checking that NeoGAF 'Japanese Trademark Tracking Thread', and I don't recall seeing anything about a Rockman trademark ever being filed in Japan in the entire thread (of which I think the thread had been tracking trademarks for around the past two years).
I could have sworn that Capcom trademarked something else in the US before it showed up in Japan last year, but I don't remember what game it was.
On a side note, you guys are funny.
ReplyDeleteSomething like this comes along, and there are barely 40+ comments in about two days.
MM10 comes along, and there are about 70+ comments made within the same timeframe.
If this was another EXE/SF game, there would be at least 150+ comments worth of whining by now, with at least 100 being made on the first day, judging from the huge comment turnout at the OSS announcement.
It's like the (robotics timeline) community thrives on fights and negativity.
Ummmm, just to clear things up, I'm a fan of the EXE/Starforce series, and, quite frankly, I wish OSS had a setting at the beginning of the game over whether you wanted to use Starforce's battle system, or EXE's Battle System. I can totally see FireMan.EXE and Megaman.EXE duking it out Starforce style. Also, I hope they remake all the EXE titles with the ability to use Starforce's battle system. It would be even better if it was all one game with a special custom battle mode. Gregar-Cross Megaman.EXE vs Duo.EXE in Starforce's battle style FOR THE WIN!!!!! \(^U^)/ Heck, even combine it with the Starforce Titles... and add in new styles and beast outs and such... GOSPEL-CROSS MEGAMAN VS FIRE LEO SHOOTING STAR ROCKMAN IN EXE'S BATTLE SYSTEM FTW! \(^U^)/
ReplyDelete...Now That's Sanctuary! NOT DR CAIN VS SIGMA ROCKBOARD!!! I mean, seriously, "Wily vs Right Rockboard: That's Paradise!" was just a digital BORED game. >_> And so I rest my case and any typos or mistakes do not matter... I hope. And I hope I don't get mobbed by the other Megaman Fans. ;_;
...
XD
Not that I care. XD WHEE HEE HEE HEE! Oh, one more thing... Bring the lost crossover in EXE 6 back!!! D8 And BETTER MAPS, that can switch between a 3d and a 2d perspective. X3
...okay, I'm done.
:3
@Alilatias:
ReplyDeleteMaybe that's because there's been next to no information revealed about the game yet?
@Krazy: Which is exactly why I decided to bring up MM10 as well.
ReplyDeleteI guess the community would rather jump to conclusions rather than speculate.
I think that it might be a comic, you know, like Sonic Universe, Capcom might be working with Archie to produce a Mega Man comic. I hope not, but it might be.
ReplyDeleteI think the word universe is throwing all of you off. I believe that universe should be taken literally as the game is probally a sequel to shootig star. I hope that capcom will make an anime based on this with real graphics and not the mediocre ones in star force that looked like a cartoon. It is overdue for a megaman anime that can be awesome and compete with gundam naruto and the legions of other messed up foolish anime.
ReplyDeleteI just received my Nintendo Power, and on the preview for next month there's a picture of the universe, and there's a part that says an astonishing title that stars one of gaming's most recognizable heroes.
ReplyDeleteWould you happen to have a scan of that?
ReplyDeleteSee Alilatias people DO like Starforce over EXE but Pat Sprigs must love Starforce TOO much that he would go too far as mess up the EXE series but each series are evenly good in their own way they just appeal to a different type of people with different tastes.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping for Mega Man Legends kind of game play. Mega Man Legends 1 and 2 and a possible 3 for PC would have made have been better. If it's going to be pay to play then I already quit before playing lol.
ReplyDelete
