"a chip-tune remix of Nitro Man's stage"
ReplyDeleteSafe to say Nitro Man's theme has topped the charts. Maybe even more than Wily themes?
Just wait 'til there's a good Solar Man metal tune; video game music will take a step towards the good kind of mainstream.
Hmm, I wonder how well this album's going to sell, since every track has already been ripped from the game weeks ago?

ReplyDeleteI don't understand why. I find Nitro Man's theme to be hugely overrated.
And I highly doubt a Solar Man metal arrangement will do anything to make game music take a step towards mainstream. Not in America, at least. Game music already is mainstream in Japan, but concerts like Video Games Live and Tommy Tallarico's efforts in general are the closest VGM will ever get to "mainstream" in the US. Music from a niche (sad to say, but these days it's true) title like Mega Man 10 isn't going to move all of VGM towards widespread recognition.
But that might be a good thing. The US music industry is IMO almost completely disgusting and full of mostly horrible "music" (rap, screamo, etc.). Personally, I'd prefer VGM to never be associated with any of it.

ReplyDeleteBeing in the first trailer certainly helped. Above all, it's just a catchy, basic melody that's instrumented in just the right way. It has positive energy; a key to any hit song here in the U.S. (I don't know that much about Japan's music culture).
And yeah, that's why I said the "good" kind of mainstream; the kind of word-of-mouth, social networking, grassroots mainstream that generates actual loyalty, not the manufactured kind. I grew up in the radio industry, and can't even listen to my local rock station anymore.
But these are certainly head-and-shoulders above the MMZ/ZX/ZXA tunes. You could try and argue that they were the same as old MM tunes, but when you translate them to 8-Bit in your head, they still don't have that pep, no matter which Famicom instrument you use. I would like to see video game music become acceptable here, but that's a long ways off, I suppose.
What I would like to know is who are the people responsible for composing/arranging the Special Stage tracks?
ReplyDeleteIf only I could hear some samples....
ReplyDelete@HyperSonicEXE: I'm not good at identifying metal, but here's a good Solar Man tune:

Anyone have a link to the special Inti tracks? The arranged 10 title and 9 tracks?

ReplyDelete"But these are certainly head-and-shoulders above the MMZ/ZX/ZXA tunes. "
I disagree.
Just from looking, several errors in the tracklist:
ReplyDelete09 KING OF BLADES (BLADE MAN STAGE)
*Blade should be plural
10 POLLUTED PUMP (PUMP MAN STAGE)
*Polluted has 2 "l"s
11 DESERT COMMANDO (COMMANDO MAN STAGE)
*It's listed as "COMMANDO" on the official tracklist
42 HEART OF ENKER (SPECIAL STAGE 1)
*Pretty sure it's "HEART" since I've never heard of a "HERAT"
