Well, here's your weird news story of the day: Lucky Star: Net Idol Meister, a PSP game based off of the popular anime/manga series, apparently features a full-fledged Mega Man parody mini-game entitled "Mega Konatan."
"the game appears to be a pretty faithful parody of classic Mega Man games, aside from some weirdness and the main character being one of the Lucky Star people. What I find very amusing, though, is all the “comments” plastered over the screens. This to is a parody of the site Nico Video, a Japanese service similar to YouTube which lets users upload their own videos, and then other users may comment on them. These comments will actually roll over the video at the time in the video the comment was left. It fits the theme of the game, which seems to be about becoming the greatest internet idol. How do the Japanese think of this stuff?" --The Mega Man Network
I never quite grasped the appeal in Lucky Star, but hey, I might just have to try this!
Pure. Win.
ReplyDeleteAnd I thought those pop up boxes on youtube were annoying...
ReplyDeleteOnly Lucky Star could get away with something like this. XD lol
ReplyDeleteThat is so friggin awesome...
ReplyDeleteI hope it is possible to turn off the comments in the game like in the Nico videos.
ReplyDelete"Mega Kontana"?
ReplyDeleteYou sure it isn't "Mega Konata"?
Well, here's yet another reason for me to dislike Lucky Star.
ReplyDeleteCrappy-made parodies of stuff you should be watching/playing INSTEAD of watching this horrid excuse of an anime.
I always wonder what that scrolling text on Niconico was. It's really annoying and I usually turn it off... I thought it was commentary or something, and I still wonder what the long strings of "wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww" are supposed to mean...
ReplyDelete@JDAManson
ReplyDeletewww is the Japanese version of lol. It's actually a kanji, but it's been shortened down to a single letter for the speed of typing. The more w's, the emphasis on the loudness of the laugh.
@Saito: Not every anime you watch has to have action
ReplyDelete@JDAManson:
It means lol.
Ah, that's cool to know. Thanks for the answer, guys!
ReplyDeleteSaito: perhaps you do not understand that Lucky Star's foundation is on parodying other animes and games, and referencing them.
ReplyDelete"How does the Japanese come up with these things?"
ReplyDeleteThey got guts kid, unlike the US who'd rather watch "Days of Our Lives" with most of CBS and other newschannel's shows constantly baaw'ing and generic "Kid need free spirit" plots.
Now here's hopin' this place doesn't get filled to the brim with weaboos and people calling Lucky Star THE BEST.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous:
ReplyDeleteFirst, it's sad that you're trying to argue when you don't even have a name put in.
Second, when did I ever say anything about action? Just because I dislike Lucky Shit, doesn't automatically mean I'm only into garbage like Bleach/Naruto/One Piece/etc.
Hell, the only action series I actually liked was Hokuto no Ken. Other than that, I seem to watch more stuff like CLANNAD, Toradora!, Kanon, Azumanga Daioh, and so on.

Here's a trailer.
The game looks boring as shit. Just a bunch of minigames, dress-up features, some visual-novel style stuff that looks half-assed into the game, and hell, the Rockman parody doesn't even appear in the trailer.
LOL! That's a quite funny way to defeat a boss. The different colored comments do something or it's just for variety? But it is somewhat repetitive, giving it a low replay value...
ReplyDeleteOH GOD, the ending!
ReplyDeleteOh that's great! I thought for sure Mega Konata was going to Pew-pew-pew, but no, not the case!
I don't watch the anime (is there even a manga of this?), but Konata has certainly creeped her way up into stardom as well. Even if it is being the Japanese equivalent of Peter Griffin.
...okay, but don't put Peter Griffin in a schoolgirl outfit. Please.
- Tedious.
ReplyDelete@Aldo- Lucky Star first started out as a 4-panel manga, then it was turned into an anime. The just recently translated the manga into English last year, so I'm sure you could find it at any store that sells manga now.
ReplyDeleteJust watched the gameplay vid.
ReplyDeleteThat is the farthest thing from a Rockman parody I've ever seen.
Last I checked, Rockman doesn't involve an Endless Jump As High As You Can minigame.
It shows some boss, but you don't even fight it. Let alone even need to use the Buster Gun. Why give you a shooting button, if you don't even USE it at all!?
Yeah, this series definitely deserves the nickname: Lucky Shit.
The jumping part is annoying, but the ending is pretty good!
ReplyDeleteIt reminds me of MMX8's Inferno stage Intermission, but in this you only "drop" endlessly until you are "dead".
What next Castlevania? Or should I say Konavania?
