ReplyDeleteNitro Man is where the outdatedness of the style really shows.

Alright the sprite for Blade man isnt too bad.
ReplyDeleteMe likey what me sees.
ReplyDeleteIs it me or is Nitro Man's head looks a tad big?
ReplyDelete...facepalm...
ReplyDelete@Flame
ReplyDeleteThese Robot Master designs look "outdated", because the artists designed them with the intention of imitating the same style that was used to draw Robot Masters during the NES era. In other words, it's a throwback.
I don't know about anyone else, but I actually like these Robot Master designs. Nitro Man's, Chill Man's, and Strike Man's sprites in particular are extraordinarily good.
Limitations and all, whatever. I know that.
ReplyDeleteHowever, Nitroman still shows exactly why the series needs to move on.
Its inevitable.
for a revival it's fine, and ill accept 10, as Rock needs to get his feet back in the ground, but We cannot just keep getting Megaman 2, over, and over again. he needs to move on eventually.
Or be swallowed by the tidal wave of a new era.[/chronoforce]
Nitro Man and Pump Man look like fangame material robots, the others look pretty good in their sprite version. I really dislike Blade Man's art form but as a sprite he looks much better. Chill Man is pretty awesome too.
ReplyDeleteYou know, I was actually going to say that these sprites -- and the graphics in general -- look a fair bit more sophisticated than what we saw in Mega Man 9.
ReplyDeleteIt seems to me they're going for a look that's beyond what the NES was capable of. It still obviously looks very old-school and intentionally dated, but this looks sharper than NES in general, methinks. But just from the stage backgrounds (in the new screenshots), the boss sprites, and the enemy sprites so far, my impression is that they're trying to make Mega Man 10 a more sophisticated-looking game than Mega Man 9 -- more in the vein of Mega Man 5 and 6 than 2, for example.
If I'm right, I am very, VERY happy about that. I totally approve.
This opinion seems to run counter to what most of you are saying, though... but I just don't feel that these are dated-looking. I don't get an intentional Mega Man 2 vibe from these like I did with Mega Man 9's bosses and visuals (MM 9 in particular used liberal amounts of plain black backgrounds, which is signature of the MM 2 style).
I'm calling it: Mega Man 10's going for a more modern NES Mega Man look, at least, if not style (though I hope style as well).
- Awesome to the max! Wow, Solar Man room resembles Fire Man, plus Chill Man resembles Ice Man. Pretty nice stuff! ^_^;;
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to kill these jerk offs.
ReplyDeleteBladeMan DEFINITELY looks a lot better in sprite form. Still don't like StrikeMan, but at least his sprite strikes (pun wholly intended) me as more cohesive. Everything, on the whole, seems to look better in their sprite form, I guess. Glad to have all of this at once.
ReplyDeleteSo... Blade Man looks a lot better in sprite form because his head is bigger than his arms. The fact his head and arms are the same size in his official art looks bizarre to me.
ReplyDeleteSolarman looks pretty cool. Hes like a fire type robot master.
ReplyDeleteSo...Pump Man's arms are Spring Man's? I agree with Flake. I can't wait to kill these silly bosses. Although I think they won't surely go down without a fight...

ReplyDeleteThen maybe they should've made a new Mega Man sprite. He and Strike Man look like they're from different games in that screenshot.
Josh:
ReplyDeleteWhy would they make a new Mega Man sprite for the NES-styled titles? His sprite is absolutely iconic. Making a new one would piss off a whole lot of fans (and rightly so). I don't feel they look like they're from different games... I think Strike Man fits in with the Mega Man aesthetic just fine. There have been previous Robot Masters who look FAR more foreign to the Mega Man "style" than Strike Man... for example Cloud Man, Turbo Man, Sword Man, Search Man, Astro Man, and Galaxy Man, and Mega Man 10's own Blade Man. Note that I don't think having a very un-Mega Man-like look is a bad thing, however; it's good to have some bosses that really switch things up a little.
@Flame: I don't understand how Nitro Man shows that the series needs to move on. >_>
ReplyDeleteIs it because he's Turbo Man in motorbike form?
>Maverickhunterash
ReplyDeleteI see what you mean, the sprite remark was rather drastic, I guess.

@Flame: What's wrong with Nitro Man? He is the one that looks the most like a classic NES robot master, in my opinion.
Because, Comparing Nitroman with his sprite, his sprite looks messy, with too many blacks covering details such as the handlebar. they made the designs for few of these a bit too complicated for the NES to display.
ReplyDeleteI can see the handlebar just fine. Looks like the way I would imagine it. >_>
