Mega Man Volnutt: Excellence In Design

In the August 2000 issue of PSM magazine, Mega Man Volnutt (of Mega Man Legends fame) was declared the tenth best designed character of the PlayStation 1 era.

I found this recognition to be particularity interesting due to the fact that Volnutt's design is under constant fire from fans and the gaming press for being a bit on the unorthodox side ("no helmet"). Still, I can't help but love it. Truth be told, I even dressed up as Volnutt for Halloween back in 5th grade!

  1. I love Volnutt's design too. It is very deserving of that reward. I don't mind the helmet, but lets not forget he can acquire the helmet in-game. I think the design is a lot more humanly proportioned than the other Mega Men, which isn't a bad thing. I also think his running animation is one of the smoothest around, lol.

Also, P-Dude...I am sure we would all enjoy seeing pictures of that halloween! After all, tis the season. ;)

  2. I'm fairly certain I have a photo of it somewhere. I'll be looking out for it!

  3. I like how the design uses the 2 blue shades. And he doesn't look plasticy or like he is wearing large, round parts like some of the other designs.

  4. Mega Man Volnutt: a human wearing an armor made of legos. I've always saw this design as "the ultimate Mega Man". Slim, less robotic, and more human.

Also, didn't you ever noticed that he doesn't have any jewelry like classic Mega Man? Because I just did XD.

  5. I was always fond of Volnutt too (except for his name) but he's not the most humanly proportioned. I'm pretty sure it's not possible for your elbows, ankles, and knees to turn into spheres and your pelvis to pretty much not exist, but you can easily don spandex and armor like Classic Megaman or X.

But yea, always liked the hair and design in general. Actually, and I hate to do this to EXE-haters, it reminds me of EXE Rockman without his helmet on. I suppose those two series ARE from the same team though.

BUT FOR GOSH DARN SAKE why didn't they keep the voice actor from Legends 1? -___-

  6. Yes! I like his design more than any other Megaman. I love Legends equally with EXE, but I love Trigger's design much more. Glyde looks pretty damn awesome too.

  7. I like his design because it gave me hope for other future helmet removals in Megaman main character design. Sure enough, we had Vent, Aile, Grey and Ashe. XD

  8. Aw, Anon, I think Sailor Jupiter's voice actually fits him very well.

  9. @MegaMac: You think so? :\ Occasionally it sounded ok, but most of the time it was too whiny and girly. You can have a high voice for a young male character, but don't have a girly one.

I think the voice acting in general in MML was cheesy, but what do you expect? XD It's a megaman game.

  10. I always liked Rock's look compared to the other Rockman designs of the franchise.

I don't get why people hate DASH so damn much, honestly. :/

  11. People hate DASH? Who? Everyone here loves it.

  12. I loved Trigger's design it was fresh and cool as well as different from the previous incarnates of Megaman. I do agree though, Legends 2 Trigger's VA was awfull they made a teen boy into a girl. The other VA's though I loved, particularly Tiesel's, Roll's, Barrel's, and Tron's. Their voices fit them so well.

  13. Barrel's voice was too strong underneath the faux raspiness, but I liked Von Bleucher's and all the Bonnes'. Roll's voice actor made too many annoying whiny sighing noises, and when she was talking it was waaaaay too cutesy and infuriating, haha.

  14. Well in spite of a few voice actors choices or overacting or whatnot... I'm rather certain we could all come to agree The Legends games pretty much have the best overall voiceacting of any Mega Man game.

  15. Not a chance. MHX blew Legends' voice acting out of the water.
