Another week, another Star Force 3 sales update. VGChartz indicates that as of July 25th, SF3 has sold a total of 56,544 units (both versions) in North America, charting at number 31. Last week alone saw an additional 14,000 units. Detailed data can be found here.
How well is SF3 doing compared to SF1 and SF2 sales? Those results here.
3 was much too awesome for mankind, apparently. More people should buy it, it was a great game.
ReplyDeleteThat's impossible. It just needs more time and attention somehow. But it seems like the general idea here is "too little, too late". If only 3 was 1.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't it make sense for Star Force 3's sales to be LOWER than its predecessors? I can't imagine people just jumping into the series all of a sudden--I would think the people who buy this game are the ones who bought its predecessors and were impressed. The thing is, I'm sure a lot of people WEREN'T impressed, so they don't want to continue with the series. And this probably a good idea--SF3 is so similar to its predecessors that if you didn't like Star Force or Star Force 2, you won't like Star Force 3. It really is just more of the same--which isn't necessarily a bad thing (I admit I really enjoyed the game), but for a lot of people it is.
ReplyDeleteThe way it's going, it looks like it might surpass 2, which makes no sense....Thank you for the introduction to VG Charts, though. I'm now fascinated. XD
ReplyDeletePeople don't necessarily have to have played the previous games to get into the newest one. For example, Rockman didn't sell so great, but Rockman 2 sold like crazy. Biohazard sold decently, and Biohazard 2 sold amazingly. Then 4 blew 3 away as well, right? And the sales of the Monster Hunter games just keep going up and up. I haven't checked, but I believe Metal Gear Solid and Devil May Cry also fluxiate geatly between numbers.

ReplyDeleteThe same could really be said about Pokémon. Its been the same as its predecessors for years and only gets a few new features with each installment. Yet it sells so well that everytimw Nintendo writes a check, the bank bounces. Pokémon is cool and all, but I got tired of it since its turned-based combat bored the hell outta me back in RSE generation.
I think it should be no question now whether there will be a SF4. While I think the series is alright, at this point, I don't care. SF3 was the best of the series, but it just wasn't that impressive. It's looking like Megaman will need another EXE-like revival-reinvention to save it, unfortunately - and making a half-assed enhanced port of BN1 is not going to cut it.
