Battle Network Remake Confirmed?

In an interview with GameTrailers, Mega Man series producer Takeshi Horinouchi made mention of a "Mega Man Battle Network remake", a possible reference to the recently announced Operate Shooting Star.
GT: What games are you playing for fun right now?

TH: A remake of Megaman Battle Network which I’ve been working on.

We've been hearing rumblings about Oss being a remake for a little while now, and apparently, the confusion of whether or not OSS is a remake derives from Horinouchi himself. To quote the Mega Man Network's Heat Man:
" At the World Hobby Fair earlier in Japan, Horinouchi allegedly said the title is a 'plus alpha port of EXE.' “Plus alpha” is Japanese term meaning “a little something extra,” essentially. More finesse. "

A remake is sounding more and more likely at this point. Let the speculation resume!

  1. Please no! If it is a remake I am so going to cry. Of course now that I think about it, it might be a crossover and a remake at the same time. It might feature RnR megaman helping out BN megaman in a situation that has already happened. I really don't know how to explain it.

  2. As long as the battle system is like the old EXE games then I don't mind it being a remake personally. Still, we need more info before anything concrete.

  3. @1st Anonymous poster: You mean like a retelling of the first Battle Network, but tossing in a crossover with RnR. Sort of like a "what if" scenario.

  4. Maybe he just means "remake" in that it'll play much like the first one, but is still an original game?

Oh well, time to get out of the WAAAAHmbulance's way.

  5. Honestly it depends on how they "remake" Battle Network 1. If the game turns out better then expectations I'm all for it, but then again we don't know for sure if this is a remake, or not.

  6. Remake?! Disappointment. I am not going to buy it. It is going to be underrated and waste money. Tsk tsk.

  7. A remake of Rockman EXE?
    NEXT!

  8. Well, poocicles. I like both the remake and the crossover ideas but a remake doesn't mean as much new content.

As long as they don't screw it up I'm happy. All 3D would be nice.

  9. How the heck can it be a remake if they're showing SSRockman as well?

    No Capcom, don't do this.

  10. I'm more concerned with who thought this what a good idea then the fact that they are doing it. Whoever suggested this needs a pink slip on their desk. Like, yesterday...

  11. @Steven Chase: That is exactly what I mean!

  12. If they make it 3D and control kind of like Mega Man Legends outside of battle like how the 3D rips from RNR seemed to imply then I am for it.

If it is just updated sprites with a new battle system then it would be depressing. They would have to change a lot of things to make it worth the purchase.

Then again, it could just be a clever way to mislead people.

  13. You guys are being really picky. I'm happy with whatever Capcom gives us.

  14. This is pretty much confirmation. I don't know how clearer "A remake of MegaMan Battle Network which I have been working on" can be. Nor can the first logo and EXE theme playing in the conference. I personally find this a bold choice. To recreate a masterpiece which is the first Battle Network. Even so, I think it is a wise choice. I swear, blending two similar, but completely different worlds would be silly and absurd. A new take on an old classic could be very rewarding. Look at what Capcom did with the Resident Evil REmake? Absolute work of art, in all aspects. I really hope this remake comes to pass, as it will be a delight to replay a game that I loved so dearly the first time, in a new light. I just hope that it doesnt have the Star Force battle system which is vertical. It makes things less challenging and somewhat disorienting. Overall though, this is good news for the most part, for me anyway. Maybe there will be sweet WiFi battle network style battles. Oh the dreams...

  15. You do remember that TH said that he had more than one project that he was working on, or thining about. So this supposed BN remake COULD be one of the other titles.

Though its really easy to believe it is Operate Shooting Star, I think we should all just quit trying to guess what OSS is, since we will get a legit answer sooner or later.

That being said, I still hope it will be a crossover, and a remake. Like Steven Chase said earlier, you start like its EXE 1 then all of a sudden you are in a COMPLETELY new storyline.

  16. Another bloody remake. Lovely.

Some new material for non-Ryuusei games that isn't 8-bit would be nice, Capcom --

It almost makes one wonder just what they happen to be afraid of.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this bit in the interview yet:

"ANY SECRETS OR PREVIEWS YOU CAN SHARE ABOUT WHAT WE CAN EXPECT FROM THE MEGA MAN SERIES IN THE FUTURE?
We are already moving ahead with several new plans not limited to a specific target or hardware, and are working hard to be able to tell you more about it. Please stay tuned!"

"Several new plans not limited to a specific target or hardware?" SEVERAL? Kids, this is pretty much confirmation that several new Mega Man announcements are headed our way (compared to the vague way he apparently said the same thing during OSS' announcement). Color me excited.

But about OSS being a remake of EXE 1... not so much. I hope it isn't. I'll be all over it anyway, but I'd rather have an original story added into the canon than EXE 1 re-written to include Geo/Omega-Xis.

  18. ''Remake?! Disappointment. I am not going to buy it. It is going to be underrated and waste money. Tsk tsk.''

Yeah, you've actually already seen and played the game. Hopefully it's gonna be awesome :3

  19. IIRC, he just said "EXE plus alpha" and whatnot in his original announcement, not necessarily "EXE1 plus alpha" as people seem to have understood it.

I'm still skeptical about a remake, since at times things get mistranslated or misunderstood, and it kinda kills the point of Clock Genius, even as an optional boss. Unless of course they're creating an SSR stage.

With the different etymology and sentence structure for Japanese and English, words don't exactly mean certain things all the time when you translate.

I say we wait until we get info. Pointless to speculate anymore. Though, I doubt that EXE with SSR gameplay will bring anyone back. EXE in general has received praise for having a better overall gameplay system than SSR(though, I have to admit, SSR3 comes pretty damned close to EXE games).

  20. I agree with TwilightEXE and MegaMac on all accounts! Read their posts and you know how I feel. :D

  21. Hey, it's the Capcom Dairy Farm. Milking the fanbase has never been so much fun!

  22. I hope it isn't a remake, but I'm gonna buy the game anyway. I love MegaMan (especially the EXE series) too much to miss out on any part of it. Besides, I still think EXE 1 needs a remake. It was the weakest graphics-wise in the series. They didn't even make the Internet areas look different! But if I had been one of the developers, I would have fought for not mixing SSR into the remake. This is still speculation, of course. Let's save the complaining/dancing/etc. until we know for certain.

  23. @MegaMac this could just be to throw us, because they obviously read forums and stuff which say it may be a remake, so you cant say its pretty much confirmation

    ReplyDelete
  24. @C:
You do realize that Capcom does that all the time, this time is no different. Examples of Capcom milking would be Megaman X7 and X8.
There is hardly any point in saying that when Capcom does that more times than can be counted, also this may not be milking, the orginal staff may have wanted to remake EXE 1 because of how low it is on peoples' favorite's list.

  25. Well if it is a remake I want the original producer!

  26. I think the first game could use a remake. I mean, sure the battle network system is flawless, but a remake wouldn't be so bad.

Hopefully the could fix that huge issue with the net all looking identical and everything. They could also add a job system and everything too. Personally, i'm praying that this game actually makes it to america, because i really miss Lan and the gang.
