A little out dated, but I simply love this special. In honor of the Blue Bomber's 15th Anniversary, G4 TV created a special episode of "Icons" devoted solely to Rockman's history and Inafune's rise to fame. Now, pay close attention to the scenes with Inafune's sketch books; you can see various pieces of conceptual artwork that failed to appear in R20, including, what appears to be, a prototype version of Splash Woman (second video, 9:35 in)
I love what they said about the MM1 boxart - they had to come up with it in less than a day, and Capcom USA's marketing director did it in less than 6 hours by getting a terrible picture of a 45 year old on it. Priceless!
ReplyDeleteI should also say that there were quite a few inaccuracies though, like when they said that MMX was released in 1994. As far as I remember, it came out in 1993 (maybe '94 in Europe?). I do remember that X2 and X3 both came out in 1995 though (as a side-note, they could have mentioned the Saturn/PSX versions of X3, since these were technically the first of the MM games to grace those systems).
ReplyDeleteI was also surprised that they did not mention the fact that the series reverted back to the SFC after MMX4 and MM8. This was always interesting to me, even if R&F's 1998 release was Japan-only at the time.
This video was an unlockable in Mega Man Anniversary Collection, wasn't it?
ReplyDeleteYou forgot the biggest inaccuracy. "Dr. Wily knew what he was doing."
ReplyDeleteThat's not Splash Woman. It's Bleu from Breath of Fire.
ReplyDelete...That's not Splash Woman... it looks like a prototype Ophicus Queen from MMSF to me.
