Looks like Shooting Star Rockman 3's little sales spike didn't last too long: from January 3rd~January 10th, 2009, Red Joker and Black Ace sold a disappointing 5,674 copies collectively, marking an all time low. On the plus side, the game is now only 10,000 units away from hitting the 200,00 unit mark.
What will happen from here? Will sales see a spike once more or trail off into obscurity?
Once again, not capcom's fault. Someone pointed out before that there is a low number of children in Japan to play games. It's also due to the economy.
ReplyDeleteEh, it's kinda hard to blame the economy on a game's poor sales when you look at many of the other games that have been selling like crazy.
ReplyDeleteI just think that the SSR series didn't have the same commercial appeal as EXE did. That's really what it comes down to, in the end.
Kids in Japan are still buying games, just not SSR3.
Doesn't surprise me. I think it will probably go back up a bit, but I don't know for sure.
ReplyDeleteIf there is a low number of children in Japan who play games, why is there a difference in this game's sales and the other RnR's, or even EXE or any other Rockman series, games? That's preposterous. It wouldn't just cut off that suddenly.
The economy might have a little to do with it, but I think it's just because of a combination of RnR's age (Some series are fun enough to play sequels of, but RnR didn't seem to capture EXE's magic.) and the way they handled the series. As has been said by at least one other commenter here, they could have made it better.
Shouldn't that be "plummet like a shooting star"?
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's so much the economy. Maybe it has a bit of an effect, but think about it. Gamers find ways to get their games. The video gamers I know over here buy tons of games even though they don't have enough money to pay bills. (Sadly) Granted, these are children who may not be as game-crazy as some older teens, but this is Japan we're talking about. And besides, I'm sure some of the kids buy their games with their own money, and they can't have that many other expenses. I bought the BN games with my own money.
ReplyDeleteDo you think Capcom will get the hint this time?
ReplyDelete...and the SSR games are pretty redundant and too little innovation occurs between releases to entice people to get subsequent games. I doubt that the number of children in Japan has suddenly dropped off enough between the release of SSR2 and this one to really be an issue. SSR is simply not what the market desires.
ReplyDeleteIt's also because it sucks.
ReplyDeleteI might buy the game in North America once it dies down and I can buy it for 10 dollars. hah.
Reminds me when EXE first came out. It was so awesome. All the cool designs and stuff... Put the Rockman franchise back on its feet. Ah nostalgia. XD
ReplyDeleteIt was never like that with SSR. :P
SSR is innovative, you're just not good of a player.
ReplyDelete@BassDS
ReplyDeleteSkill as a player has nothing to do with something being 'innovative'. To innovate is "to introduce something new; make changes in anything established". The SSR and EXE games are the worst kind of 'clone and charge' franchise assassination that has ever been perpetrated. After 6 identical EXE games and SSR being way too similar to what has gone on before audiences are tired of it. Capcom did this to themselves.
Capcom can keep making as many as they want and i'll buy them. The hobby games got me into this game series in the first place, so it will never get old for me.
ReplyDeleteI think sales will go up once RnR hits the shelves outside of Japan.
ReplyDeleteI think they should actually just try something original with the series. Gameplay wise the series is Exe all over again. An it's become even more of a clone with RnR 3. Noised Wizards are basically the new darkloids. Noise Change = Crosses/Unison.
Mabey there trying to play on the fans nostalgia for a new exe game.
The worst part is as soon as the new game is out no matter how much I'm going to hate myself for it I'm going to buy the games as soon as it hits GameStop and I'm going to like it.
Damn you Capcom and your addictive games!!!!
