After only two chapters, Ryo Takamisaki's Shooting Star Rockman 3 manga has come to an end; possibly another sign of the series's ailing health.According to Rock Miyabi, the newest chapter of the comic comes attached with an owari on the final page, a marking used to show an indefinite end. To make matters worse, the preview for the next issue of Coro Coro Comics (April) shows no sign of the manga's return. So, how should we take this bit of news? As I see it, the manga's end is just another nail in the Shooting Star coffin, further doubting the possibility of a fourth game.

A manga makes no differnce. A game doesn't need a manga spinoff to do good. Except for Bleach, Yu-gi-oh, Naruto and DBZ.
ReplyDeleteLooks like SSR is really ending. I'll miss it, I grew attached to it and liked the plot concepts like the Wave World and the Denpa-Henkan (Wave Change) =(

ReplyDeleteWell, it may not need a manga to succeed, but if the manga gets canceled that quickly, it's a sign that the series isn't doing well.
ReplyDeleteI liked some of the concepts too, but they didn't implement them right and had some stuff in this series that I wish they had left out or done differently. :\
SSR could have been so much cooler than it was. And I was excited about it replacing EXE when it came out. :P Not so much anymore.
Actually, now that I see the manga and how it ends, it seems like the manga was nothing more than a sneak peak/promotion for SSR3. All it had was a battle between Rock Man and Burai.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure the manga was just for promotional purposes, like those mangas that are usually one or two chapters long and at the end with a message saying "Want to see how the story continues? Then play [game title] for the [system name]!" Just look at the final panel.

@Kenichi: That wasn't Burai, it was Jack Corvus. There were a few cameos of other bosses in there, like Spade Magnets and Queen Virgo, but not Mr. Solo.
ReplyDeleteWhile you may be entirely right on the promo reasons, many people felt Takamisaki returning would make up for Itagaki's bizzare, often ridiculed manga style. And produce at least a few volumes worth.
It was seen by fans at least as an attempt to rekindle interest from the EXE fanbase who enjoyed Takamisaki's take on the series. Just doesn't seem like it had the chance to do that with just two measly chapters.
