"Capcom might want to get on the phone with Unilever, owner of the Knorr brand. Because, really, that's Mega Man, albeit in green, encouraging Dutch children to eat more fruits and vegetables (I think.)
Apologies if this is mangled syntax (Neder-lengels? Nedergrish? Holland-aise?), but because I'm one of those people who think everything is funnier when translated into Dutch, I can't resist.
IN HET JAAR 20XX ... DR. WILY: 'U VERGEET, MEGA MENS, KUNNEN DE ROBOTS GEEN TUINLIEDEN BEROKKENEN ...' "Capcom's lawyers are going to have a field day with this one. That is, if they even notice...

ReplyDeleteIf you're trying to say what I think you're trying to say, it's like this:
In het jaar 20XX:
Dr.Wily: "Je vergeet Mega Man, robots kunnen tuinmannen geen pijn doen."
u is used when you respect the other person or try to be polite, je or jij is used otherwise
man stays man
gardener becomes tuinman/tuinvrouw depending on the gender
we translate harm as danger, gevaar, which makes not much sense in that sentence, can't hurt translated, pijn doen makes more sense.
That's bizarre. My thoughts are that some artist was contracted, was "inspired" by Mega Man in the hopes of making a quick buck, and then sold the finished product to Unilever.
ReplyDeleteStill...not the first mascot I'd choose to rip off to promote Knorr.
Quick, call Phoenix Wright!
ReplyDeleteDC comics alone has:
ReplyDelete5 Starman
3 Dr. Light
2 Aquaman
Marvel has Iceman(Who even appeared in a capcom game)
There are actual mangas called
Fire Man
Skull Man
and Stone Man is a blatant ripoff of Dragon Quest's golems.
Noone's getting sued.
