It's simply amazing what developers hide inside completed games. Users at Sprites Inc. have discovered what appears to be lost 3D elements from Rockman EXE 5 DS inside the Ryuusei no Rockman 1 ROM.
Notable 3D elements include character models for Netto, Rockman.EXE, Netto's room and a full 3D Akihabara Town. Speculation indicates these textures are from a work in progress version of EXE 5 DS, one that aimed to be much "bigger" (in terms of scale) compared to the likes of the final product. Others have speculated (and this is a long shot) these textures were from an unused EXE 7 concept.
Check out the topic at Sprites Inc. for more pics and future discoveries.
Also You can see topic about that at TREZ:

That is completely awesome. Ah, it's sad to think about what could have been.
ReplyDeleteStill, why hide these unfinished elements in the RnR 1 ROM, of all places? Strange...
Capcom really knows how to gyp us, don't they? I would have loved to see a 3-D Double Team DS (or whatever it was). Why don't they ever go through with their bigger ideas? Not enough time? Are they afraid the result won't be as marketable? What's the deal? C'mon, Capcom! Go ahead and knock our socks off!
ReplyDeleteGAHHHHHHHH!!! I want a 3D Rockman.exe!! ;( I've been trying to get a 3D Rockman.exe model forever! :( Why oh why couldn't they have finished it. :(
ReplyDeleteMost interesting post in days.
You know, it could be that They were going to make a 3D Rockman.exe, and then decided to just make RnR instead, and that's why it's still in the ROM. I wish they had finished it. That would be AWESOME.
ReplyDeleteThe sad thing is that even though Mega Man Star Force has 3D graphics its only in battle mode only and the rest of the game is in GBA style 2D. Capcom should of went with the full 3D look like they were originally going to plan with Rockman.exe 5DS then changed their minds for some reason?
ReplyDeleteI wonder HOW did they discover such thing? Because they were ready to edit RnR1 game, as it clearly shows a level visualizer? If I had to give an hot guess, I'd say "hint from a Capcom guy". OR you think that this kind of rom hacking is very popular? :|
ReplyDeletetotally agree with anonymous above me onthe reason. still there is always hope for a rebirth of .exe in 3D.
ReplyDelete@Fabiano: Game hacking is very popular, it's a hobby for some, a passion for others.
ReplyDeleteProbably the strangest find ever. 3D EXE5DS in a Ryuusei ROM? Who would've ever thought to look there?
ReplyDeleteNo hinting here. I wonder if that BMD viewer would work with the Rockman.exe model from OBW... Or maybe MMNT...
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE a 3D EXE. I wish they would make one.
Oh man... that's pretty cool, I would have loved to see how EXE5 in 3D would have been ;_;
ReplyDeleteNeeds...more...Rockman.EXE...
Ah, so my finds come here. That's great.
