With Rockman 9 rapidly approaching, I can't help but get excited to face off against Splash Woman, the series' first female antagonist (well, in Original series terms that is).
So readers, what are your opinions on Splash Woman? Do you feel it was a wise choice to mix things up a bit and debut a female Robot Master? Or do you feel her presence has broken the traditional “____Man” pattern we've known and loved for over two decades?
Personally, I think her presence adds some diversity to the “nearly female-less” Original series cast (Roll, Kalinca and Plum being the only ones I can think up of off the top of my head).
From what I've gathered, the fan response has been generally positive. I can't tell you how many pieces of Splash Woman fan art I've seen in the past 24 hours (both clean and dirty. *ahem!*) from 4chan alone.

I don't mind it, it does bring some diversity.
ReplyDeleteI know there was talk of 2 female Robot Masters at first but I'm glad they cut it back to 1. It would have made her/them less unique.
I'm kind of glad that she doesn't resemble Leviathan too closely, Tornado Man already resembles Harpuia a bit too much imo and I don't think that's a good thing.
Well, as long as the design is interesting, I don't mind the gender.

ReplyDeleteA dirty ? Then they are perverts! This Spalsh Woman deserves to be in Rockman/Megaman 9 and maybe more women like this one in the next series against rockman/megaman maybe ? It would be an interesting one.

ReplyDeleteNot that I mind Splash Woman being in the game. I just feel as if they made such a change like that too late into the series though, maybe if they had done it in the earlier NES games it would've felt less...I unno the word for it lol. It's still pretty cool, and at least the design looks good too

ReplyDeleteIt's obvious that anyone who is uncomfortable/upset by there being a female Robot Master is a misogynist. I'm glad they finally created one, I hope this continues and even more Robot Masters who just so happen to be women pop up in future games. Mega Man games are notoriously mono-sexed.
