RUMOR: 'Rockman Rockman 2' Concept Artwork Surfaces *UPDATE*
According to PRC tipsters, “Z00t” and “Anonymous”, concept artwork of ''Rockman Rockman 2” apparently surfaced on the popular Japanese image board 2ch. The topic is long gone, but thankfully Z00t and Anonymous managed to jot down the gist of it:
-An anonymous 2ch user discussed his recent purchase of “Irregular Hunter X” concept sketches from Yahoo! Auctions Japan. To his dismay they weren't originals, rather photo copies.
-Ten minutes later, he reveals that the final sketch in the bundle was not related to IHX at all, rather, it appeared to be concept artwork from the seemingly canceled Rockman Rockman 2.
-Moments later, several other 2ch users demand to see the piece.
-The following hour, OP (original poster) returned with a scan of the concept artwork. (As seen above)
-OP mentions that the back of the piece contains the date '3/6/06', approximately three days after Rockman Rockman's domestic release. The back was scanned, but neither Z00t nor Anonymous saved the picture in time, topic had disappeared the next hour.
-Anonymous mentioned that several 2ch users doubted the piece, deeming it fan art. However, there were quite a few believers.
Personally, I don't know what to make of this. The artwork does look “official”, though something feels kinda off about it. It's definitely possible this is legitimate based on the datethe art was was conceived (3/6/08). If memory serves me right, Inafune once mentioned Rockman Rockman 2 was in pre production during Rockman Rockman's development. If that's the case, then this may indeed be artwork from this pre production phase.
For now, we can only make assumptions. Don't jump to conclusions yet, this is after all...another rumor.
Thanks Z00t and Anonymous
*UPDATE*
It's 100% fake, so is this. Nothing more than really good fan art. Thanks Ageman20XX and Zan

bullshit, like every rumor post in this blog.
ReplyDeleteThis art is extremely clean for a scan. Yes, the background color is a very subtle off-white, but it seems to be perfectly uniform. Still, nothing that can't be done with the proper equipment.
ReplyDeleteAs for the "off-ness" that you are referring to, it's probably the very slight pixelation. This often occurs when resized from a larger image.
It seems very possible that this was, indeed, concept art -- but, as was already implied, that does not mean anything about us actually getting the game.
doing my best to not get my hopes up ^_^
ReplyDelete@Anonymous: I agree, we have been exposed to a lot of BS rumors, though not all have been pure BS. I recieved a LOT of flack for the Rockman 9 rumor, but look how that turned out. It was true.
ReplyDeleteAll rumors on the blog should always be taken with a grain of salt.
damn I hope this is real! rockman 2 was the most popular game so why didn't they make rockman rockman 2 already!? this would be the best game ever! damn I want to play as airman, metalman and crashman!
ReplyDeleteI swear I've seen this artwork somewhere before, but my memory can't recall anything now. Seems really familiar though
ReplyDeletebut... I see something in this pic. if you look at flashmans uh... "glasshead-part" the yellow shadows are bad work. and at quickmans boomerang on his head you can see little pixels upstandig. also airmans shotarm... the shadoweffects aren't that good. and isn't rockmans head familiar to the head on this pic?

Looks pretty legit.
ReplyDelete*hopes high up*
I didn't think it was possible to make the Rockman 2 Robot Masters look "cute".
ReplyDeleteLooks pretty legit, the whole reason I bought my PSP was for MHX and Powered up, so I hope they do release sequels to them.
Man, I hope there is some truth to this rumor. Now they just need to put it on a system where it would sell.
ReplyDeleteI hope they will create it for the psp IF they will ever create it
ReplyDeleteI don't know if this is real or not, but unless it shows up on DS or wiiware or something, I don't care. I don't know, something about the Rockman Rockman series is just plain weird. O_o
ReplyDeleteI'm skeptical.
ReplyDeleteThe technique matches the style used by Capcom, but there are fan artists who have been able to match it. I'd think a photo of the page these drawings are one alongside the batch of drawings from IHX would be a little more concrete, but that depends on what the IHX drawings look like as well.
This could just be incredibly good fanart. There's a similar picture displaying the MM3 RMs and Breakman on Akibakko.
ReplyDeleteI'm currently in the process of looking for the said auction. Sometimes Yahoo! Auctions Japan archives recently ended items.
ReplyDeleteI really, really, REALLY want this to be real. It looks good enough to be real. And I want it to become a full game. Please Capcom. This is the best thing I've seen since the original MHX and MMPU. PLease. Please let this become a full game.
ReplyDeleteWell... they look nice, then again, most artwork of this kind is nice. Until I see/hear more rumours, I'm calling bluff on this one too. Rockman 9 coming out in a few weeks is one thing, but to make another Classic game like that so sudden just seems a little bit off.
ReplyDelete"the whole reason I bought my PSP was for MHX and Powered up, so I hope they do release sequels to them."
ReplyDeleteSame here man. Same here.
Does Yahoo Auctions of Japan offer an english counterpart at least for the interface or does it allow searching of japanese auctions from the english side? Sort of like how ebay does it?
ReplyDelete@Hypercoyote:
ReplyDeleteActually, yes :)
It's called Rinkya:

I managed to find that set of RM3 masters reposted somewhere, it looks the same style as this, even the same layout and size.

If both were real somehow, it would definitely push me over the edge and make me buy a PSP, unless all three of the first games were redone on the DS.
Zan Sidera just posted this on the Megaman Network...
ReplyDeletePowered Up 3 "Concept" Art
Seems like this isn't concept art as much as it's fan-art... It looks the same as those PU3 'bots and we know PU3 was never started.

PS. Here's the topic Zan posted it in : MMN Topic
Well, these pics may be fan-made, but that's not to say capcom won't go through with MMPU2 later on down the road.
ReplyDeleteDammit but those fan arts are friggin awesome
ReplyDeleteImpressive. This is REALLY convincing fanart.
ReplyDeleteSomeone needs to find this artist and tell them to do Powered Up versions of the robot masters from the other 6 classic games. (including 9!)
ReplyDeleteIt's saddening to find this art to be a hoax. But all is not lost!
ReplyDeleteWe are currently hosting a petition on
www.petitiononline.com/adkfa/petition.html to help revive this and the Maverick Hunter series, so if you love Megaman, sign it, so we can kickstart a beloved series that we all know and love. We thought that we could post this up to raise awareness for our cause.
Thank you.
The fanartist have down this SD characters up to Megaman 7 ;).. you can find her /him (but i think is a her) on Pixiv, a Japanese art site ;)
ReplyDelete"this would be the best game ever!"
ReplyDeleteNo, it wouldn't.
