Buyatari and Bronty, collectors of all things video games, shared some truly amazing Mega Man history at the Nintendo Age forums: the original box art paintings for Mega Man 3, Mega Man 6, Mega Man V, and Mega Man X.
Illustrated by Greg Winters, this is the first time we're seeing these pieces sans logos and corporate watermarks. The following belong to Buyatari
Mega Man 6:
Mega Man 3:
Mega Man V (Game Boy):
Mega Man X:
Promotional art for Game Players Magazine:
This Mega Man 7 print ad belongs to Bronty:
And a Rockman Corner exclusive, Buyatari's Mega Man Soccer original:
These pieces are not for sale but you've got plenty of time to start saving up should that time come, though. For now, ogle at some seriously cool history!
Mega Man 7 looks awesome. I hate Promotional art for Game Players Magazine and Mega Man 3 because Mega Man looks horrible and ugly. Sorry I am going to say the same for Mega Man X art.. UGH!. I really like Mega Man V art so is Mega Man 6. NICE! :D
ReplyDeleteI think MMV had the perfect blend between Macaulay Culkin's face and Inafune's style
ReplyDeleteThis is Bronty. Greg Winters is very much alive :) Greg Martin left us.
ReplyDeleteAlso, to be clear, the pieces belong to buyatari (except for the mm7 ad). I just happened to have pictures that I shared on my pc as I saw jpg's directly from the previous owner.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, Mega Man soccer is ugly and look at him. He doesn't looked like Japanese version. Sighing.
ReplyDeleteAlways reminds me of this article. http://www.dorkly.com/post/43085/mega-man-cover-art-memos
ReplyDeleteI'd do seriously questionable things to obtain the MMX one and have it on display in my home forever and ever...
ReplyDeleteThose guys have stuff that pretty much no one else does. And as far as saving up...haha...good luck with that.
ReplyDeleteIt's a historical trip that tells us that it took a long time for the U.S. to get the point of Mega Man being inspired by Astro Boy and not try to "man-ify" him every damn time.
ReplyDeleteNow i know who to blame for this horrible art. Well at least MM5 gb art is decent, he definetely upped his little skill he had..
ReplyDeleteMM3 one is probably the worst. Megaman always looked like a horny pedophile to me on this pic.

ReplyDeleteDamn. Y'all some bitches. It's not my ideal Megaman, but I appreciate the artistry and the nostalgia of it. I would be proud to own any one of these.
